Dust If You Must

My son had to take care of a few things in the next town over, and I went along with him, as I've been wanting to visit this small town for quite awhile.  It's a bit further up the mountain, and my brother-in-law knows these mountain roads better than us, so he drove us there.

At our first destination, we saw Mount Shasta clearly in the distance.  Still covered with snow, it looked so majestic.

I often show photos of Mount Shasta, cause it's a special mountain to my family.  I can also see it vividly near my home.  I've talked a little about it with you, sharing that Nel had climbed it twice.  But I haven't shown a photo since early on of her climbing this grand mountain.  It was a difficult climb for her the second time, and as she was hiking down and getting close to the base, she became almost delirious.  She was so exhausted.  Here she is at the peak of the mountain, and I can imagine how pleased she was as she reached the summit.

Well, I've been told of a lake that I've been wanting to visit, and my brother-in-law was kind enough to take us there.  It was pretty, filled up with water from the rain we received, and so blue.

The drive home was lovely as ever, as there was still snow on the roads and through the woods.

We ended the day with the best pizza in town.

I dusted last weekend, one of my least favorite chores, but everything looks clean and polished.

Dust If You Must

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better

To paint a picture or write a letter,

Bake a cake or plant a seed,

Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,

With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,

Music to hear and books to read,

Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there,

With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,

A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.

This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,

Old age will come and it's not kind.

And when you go - and go you must -

You, yourself, will make more dust.

Sheri, what a perfect combination, the poem with Nel's climb up your gorgeous Mount Shasta and with your seizing the day to spend time with your son and brother-in-law to visit the beautiful scenery in your part of the state! It really made me see that it doesn't have to be grand exciting things only to do but the simpler joys that we miss out on if we say no to the opportunity. I know I've read the poem years ago but I really needed to see it again! Your photography is beautiful, as always, and the mountain and lake views so refreshing!

What gorgeous scenery! I can smell the fresh air from here. 🤩 That mountain is quite a feat to climb. Congrats to your Nel for doing it twice, wow! And look at all that glorious water (and future water in the form of snow)! That pizza looks so delicious, with all my favorite toppings! Yum! And could that poem be any more perfect for this post? I hate dusting, too. Not fun! Happy Monday, dear Sheri! ❤️

I love this poem, and your little gnome! Hey, that rhymes! Mt. Shasta is so awesome and majestic. Your daughter is so beautiful! And determined as well. The lake is bluer than blue! Does it have a name? Can people swim in it?

Dearest Sheri,
Wow, what a lovely and above all—bubbly post this was!
Mount Shasta is a majestic beauty and you had the perfect clear weather for making those great photos.
Nel was a brave young lady for climbing to its summit and then—back down!
There is no escape and I can understand that she was so exhausted.
Nel is so beautiful! And BRAVE.
Bet that pizza tasted even better after all those views and memories of Nel's climb.
Dust if you must...
As of February 1st I had for the very first time here in the USA help from a professional cleaning lady. So happy and slowly I can now tackle all other chores and catch up and manage to read and do some cross stitch. Have not done since our Florida vacation after Christmas...
But we biked in lovely sunshine yesterday and no wind. We did 41 km or 25.5 miles but for Pieter it was almost his limit... Both of us slept like a rose after a light supper!
Hugs,
Mariette

Hi Sherri,
I can see Mt. Shasta from my home too. It is so pretty covered in snow. I have never hiked up there though. Congrats to your daughter for doing that. I don't enjoy dusting, but I do like everything clean. So it is a must do. The poem was so true. Have a great week Sherri!

What a terrific excursion and fun day, Sheri. It's hard for me to imagine seeing blue water in February! Or a mountain from my home! I love the name"Mt. Shasta." It's powerful but elegant. And that looks like quite a climb!

That really is very beautiful country there, Sheri. How nice to have someone to drive you around. That lake is AMAZING and the color is WOW!!! just WOW!!!! I am so proud of your girl for climbing that mountain. Growing up in the mountains and HAVING to climb them sometimes to locate cows, etc., I have never had the desire to climb one for fun. lol. I am amazed at people that can climb like that. I can only imagine the exhilaration of reaching the summit. Scary about her climb down though.

I detest dusting...but do it because I feel like a sloth if I don't do it. lol.

Have a wonderful Tuesday.
