A Day At The Lake

We went to the lake recently, and I was so surprised to see how low it was.  We had to walk a ways just to get to the edge.  It was a chilly day, but the sun was shining and the lake looked like it always does....so peaceful and pretty.

I spotted a few seashells that got washed up on shore.

There was a flock of geese nearby, and all of a sudden I heard their loud warning honk, as I got a bit too close for their comfort, and gradually one by one flew away.

The sun was so bright on the lake that it looked like little stars were caressing it.

I saw a knotty burl that was smiling back at me.  Do you see it too?

It was a beautiful day at the lake.

Jeepers Creepers

I was coming out of church and stopped to talk to a friend, and a woman came up to me and said, "you have gorgeous eyes.  They sparkle."  I said to her, "oh, thank you.  That is so sweet."  And she smiled and said to me, "have a nice day."

One day, while eating at a Chinese restaurant, I opened up my fortune cookie and it read, your eyes are the windows to your soul. That fortune cookie was special to me and I kept it for many years.

When I was a little girl, my mom used to sing this song to me, and through the years Jess has come to love this song as well.

What's the first thing
you notice
about someone....
their eyes
their hair
their smile?

For The Love Of Shopping

Jess came into town
this weekend,
and we did a little
shopping.

We went to many
shops throughout the
day, and I bought
this cute tea cup for
Easter.

Jess found this
petite strainer for
rinsing fruits
and veggies.

These tops were
so cool.
The sleeves flared out
and they looked
lovely on her.

And what better
goodie to bring home
than some berry
flavored taffy?

What a fun day we
had shopping.
But my feet are tired.

The Light

The other night I was watching a scary movie (you know, the kind where someone breaks into the house, and you're on the edge of your seat and a pop-out comes on the screen).  I called out to my son and said, "lock the door and put the porch light on before you leave."  He smiled at me and said, "you don't need the porch light on, you have the light of the Lord watching over you."

Oh, how I love
that boy.

Jazz Kitchen

Spicy Creole food on the stove...

bright purple, green, and yellow beads...

brassy notes of jazz and blues...

It must be Mardi Gras! Though this fun and festive holiday is typically not celebrated by most Californians, we break out the beads each year in honor of one of our favorite cities in the world--New Orleans!

This year we stuffed our bellies with shrimp Ã©toufféand red beans and rice. We got the recipe from one of the yummiest spots in New Orleans, the world famous Gumbo Shop

We also made some traditional king cake with purple, green, and yellow Mardi Gras sprinkles!

Cheers to Fat Tuesday!

I Choose Left

When we moved to our home, one of the best things I liked about it was the location.  Now, when I am coming out of the neighborhood and turn left, I have a country road and my church.  If I turn right from my neighborhood, I have down town, and some restaurants and shopping.  If I go straight, I have the mall, more shopping, and my Starbucks.  :~)  I love the area because we are right in the middle of everything.  So, today I chose to turn left to get a bit of the country.

The pink cherry blossom trees are starting to show their flowers already.

Thank you for taking a ride in the country with me.

A Girl After My Own Heart

Yesterday, I had coffee with an old friend from childhood.  She reminded me that we actually met in third grade!

We used to play our 45 singles on her turn table record player listening to Michael when he was in The Jackson 5.

Growing up, my friend would go to the local bead shop, gather the beads that she bought, and make the most creative necklaces and bracelets.

Us seventh and eighth graders all loved the popular scent of musk, and would wear it any chance we got.

Through the years we've always managed to stay in touch with each other.  To one of my great long life friends, I love you.

The Right Light

As I was walking into the kitchen the other day, I noticed how very pretty my roses looked in the late-afternoon light.

I just had to stop and take a few pictures.

The last sun rays of the day are always worth pausing to take in.

everything is extraordinary."

Weekend Getaways

It's so nice to find the time for weekend getaways whenever possible...

to visit somewhere just far enough

to temporarily tame the "travel bug" that continues to reside in me...

to keep life interesting, and the heart and mind fulfilled...

I hope I always have the desire to explore.
