Homework

"Out with the old; in with the new."

This phrase will always stick with me. As a child, Mom used to tell us this when we wanted new toys, and we had to donate old toys we didn't use before we could have a new one.

I have been spending the new year de-cluttering and organizing my home.

Adding a touch of style here...

and some character there.

Have you been working on your home in the new year?

Remembering A Wonderful Actress

We watched and loved her on the
Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Didn't we love her
best friend, Rhoda, too?

A wonderful actress
and lovely woman will be
missed by many.

When I think of you,
I will always remember these

Putting Out Valentine Stuff

It's been raining and dreary here lately, so I thought I'd put a few Valentine lovelies out to brighten up my house.

This picture is for you, Jess.

I'm even seeing signs in nature.

I love Valentine's Day.

A Mini Box Of See's

Went to lunch with my sister and brothers and niece to celebrate my sister's birthday.  We met at one of our favorite places, Macaroni Grill.

I ordered my favorite, Pasta Milano with sundried tomatoes.

My brother gave us all a mini box of See's, I loved it!

It was my sister's birthday, and she brought a few goodies for me.  : )  One of them was this wonderful picture.  It reminds me of me and the girls.  I'm going to have it framed very soon.

My sister lost her husband and son all within one year.  It has been a difficult time for her in so many ways, but she has been a pillar of strength, and I think about her so often throughout my days.  This is us when we were growing up.

I love getting together with my sister and brothers, and my mom would be so pleased that her chickadees are gathering and making merry.

More Rain To Come

You may have heard about all the rain and storms we're having in California.  Wednesday night after I went to bed, I heard a big "thump" around my house.  I didn't know what it was, so I went to look and then headed back to bed.  Then, the doorbell rang, and it was my neighbor telling us that the huge tree next to our house had fallen down and that it almost hit one of our cars that was parked.  The storm was really howling that night, and this is what it looked like the next morning.

Even though the tree fell
next to our house,
all the rain that we're having
is a good thing,

and I'm glad for caring neighbors
who look out for one another
around my neck of the woods.

There's more rain coming,
and it will last until Monday,
so I heard.  : )

Until The Sun Shines Again

You know how the birds migrate south during the cold winter months?  Well, there are a few that stick around and endure the harshest weather that comes their way.

They scrounge up the little food
they can find to survive,

make nests for shelter,

and live out the long cold winter
until the sun shines on
their faces again.

They are the ones I admire,
I appreciate.

They don't fly away from
the fierce weather around them.

They endure,
they persevere.
They don't quit,
they keep going on their way,
they keep flying.

Nature teaches me,
and teaches me,
and with a song of gratitude,
I thank her.

What's Your Style?

When I'm asked what my style is in the home, it's sometimes hard to say because I like so many different things.  I love the dark traditional furniture because I think it's rich looking and gives warmth to the home.  I also like looking at other houses that have the dark traditional furniture.  I am a lover of candles, and have a thing for jewels.  I came across an emerald pendant (my birthstone), and hung it over a statue of Mary.  I like pretty Victorian tea cups, blue ones being my favorite.  I have a soft spot for cloth dolls, especially if they are hand made.  I guess my style in the home would be old world, vintage, and eclectic, which are usually those items that say "hello, I'm one-of-a-kind, take me home."  Here's a few pics to give you a better idea of my style and taste in the home.

So, what is your style?
I bet our blog friends would love to hear.
