Just An Ordinary Day

I got up early this morning around 6:00, and drove to Starbucks to get my favorite coffee.  The girl at the drive-thru was pleasant, and her arm was covered with tattoos with red roses and a cross.  Now, I'm not a big fan of tattoos, but you know how surprised I was to see the red roses, and the cross made it look so beautiful.  I saw the sunrise, and enjoyed my coffee thinking to myself that life is good.

Speaking of roses..... husband planted roses last Sunday in my garden - pink, yellow, white, and red.  I wanted him to plant them because every time he plants something, it turns out well.   His dad had a garden when he was young, so he learned a lot from him.  I will be putting in some white flowers soon as ground cover, and I'll show you later.

Have a sweet day.

Sacramento - California's Capitol

Weekend before last, we went to downtown and mid-town Sacramento for a visit.  There are many wonderful sights in Sac, and it's always a pleasure for me and husband to take a drive there.

We stopped early in the morning at a nice European bakery called Ettore's.  There were so many goodies, I didn't know what to choose.

Driving through mid-town, there is a neighborhood called "the fabulous 40's."   The houses are so nice and groomed, and I thought this landscaped yard with tulips was pretty.

A friend of red rose alley.

The State Capitol is grand, and I love to see it every time we are in the area.

The door and statues on the front of the building are beautiful.

And the grounds are green and groomed with lovely flowers all around.

Downtown and mid-town Sac is definitely one of our favorite places to visit.

Happy Birthday, My Friend

Today's my best friend's birthday.  It's a big one, so I thought I'd do a post and wish her a day filled with fun and joy and love.

She grew up in the country, when there was nothing here but fields.  It is where I live now, and everything seems to have changed, but at the same time, some things are just the same.

We've known each other since high school, and were often asked if we were "twins" wherever we went.

This is the prettiest bird that I've seen around here, so I am sending it to her on her birthday.   Anyone know what kind of bird this is?

I just saw her for her birthday celebration, and  gave her this tea cup from Anthropologie with some white tea.  I have one just like it, and am drinking my tea and thinking of her today.

Happy Birthday, friend.
Celebrate You!

love,

My First Spring Flowers

Sheri, Sheri quite contrary
How does your garden grow?

I planted my first spring flowers at our new home, and they are called ranunculas.  Are you familiar?  It's a sturdy and pretty flower, and is doing well so far.

Husband is prepping the garden so that we can plant some vegetables and herbs.......tomatoes (is there anything like home grown tomatoes?), squash (green and yellow), bellpeppers (green, orange, and red), onions, garlic, and possibly strawberries, we'll see.

It was so good to dig deep under the soil and feel the earth again.

Since then, a few more flowers have started to bloom.

This is a statue that my sister gave me many years ago.  It's special to me, as I stayed home with my children and were with them always.

I may plant some roses this weekend, but I'm not sure if it's too early or not.  I'll keep you updated with the progress of my garden, and you can help me along the way with advise and tips.  Yes, planting a garden and watching it grow will bring this girl much pleasure, indeed.
