The Oscars

Did you watch The Oscars last night?  We were so glad that Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor.  The Revenant was an awesome movie, and he did an amazing job in it.  Besides, we just love Leo.

Do you know that Nel lived in Hollywood for six years?

She was in her 20's, and she saw a few stars while living there.  She lived a few blocks down from the theatre where they hold The Oscars.  Every year around Oscar season, they close the streets down to get ready for the awards.  A couple times Nel and her husband walked down that way to see if they could spot any stars.  We like to watch The Oscars each year to see the fashion.

Here's a picture of Nel getting ready to go out on the town with her friends in Hollywood.

Those were sure memorable years for her, and she'll look back on the years spent in Hollywood fondly.

Save The Date

Jess sent out her
'Save The Date' cards,
which should be
mailed a few months
before the
wedding.  Here's the
picture that she used for
the cards.

Have a happy weekend.

That Old House

I have been a little sentimental lately.  You see, my parent's house, the house that I grew up in, is going to be sold soon.  After my parents passed away, my brother rented it out for a few years, but now it's time to sell it.

Me and my brother were born in this house, so you can see how it has so many memories for me.

My sister and I shared a room growing up until she moved out of the house.   My mom covered the walls in our room with a calico flowered fabric, which she did all on her own.  It looks something like this.

She was always working on some kind of project, whether it was sewing, plastering brick on the walls in her kitchen, or making us costumes and dresses for all the special occasions we went to.  She even pierced my ears when I was a young girl, can you imagine?

Then, when my siblings had kids of their own, all the cousins would gather there for parties, get togethers, and holidays.

This tree in my mom's front yard is as old as the house, and Nel and Jess used to climb it and talk and laugh and tell stories.

I'm going to miss that old house, and I hope someone with good character buys it.  Every time I drive by, I will think of my mom and dad who made a life here with their family and my brothers and sister who mean so much to me.......remembering a time when the world was a little more carefree and a little less rushed.  I can hear the whispers of children and their children talking and laughing and playing once again.

Heart Shaped Rock

A took a drive to Loomis this week just to get away from the surroundings here.  Loomis is out in the country more, and it was just what I needed.  It was nice to see the white blossom trees and the wide open spaces and spend some time in their pleasant town.

I thought this old building with aqua trim was charming.

Oooo, the pink blossom trees are already starting to bloom.

I found this heart shaped rock at one of the nearby stores, and it's turquoise like my kitchen.

This high school has always had a great football team, even when I was in school.  ; )

Best pizza ever!

This old pick-up truck was cool with the trees growing in back of it.

Loomis is a favorite place of mine to go to.  I'll have to visit again soon.

It's Really OK

The other day, me and Jess and Nel were having lunch at a restaurant.  We were discussing many things, and then a topic came up where me and Nel didn't agree on.  It got a bit heated so Jess, being the peacemaker, said  "let's just go"  (since we were already done eating anyway).

I felt strongly about this subject, as did Nel.  Yes friends, even us three girls don't see eye to eye on everything.

I try to explain to my daughters that it's ok to disagree at times, it's ok to have different opinions, it's even ok to have an occasional quarrel..........as long as they quickly love again.

Oh, how I love those

New Kitchen Colors

I wanted to lighten up my kitchen since spring is coming, so I changed the colors to turquoise and white.   I had most of the stuff already, and it really feels good to change things around once in awhile in the home.  I thought this was the coolest tea pot when I saw it at World Market.

I added a bit of white too.

My rooster sits on my
kitchen table.

There's always a rose
or flower in my kitchen to
look at while I'm
cooking.

Have to put my fairy out.

Have a wonderful week.

Vintage Valentine

I wanted to show you the Valentine box that my sister made.  It's very pretty, and she added a few items in the box once she decorated it - a glove with lace, a key with ribbon, and a white rose.  She started out by using just a plain vintage Valentine box.

And this is what it looked like after.
Isn't it lovely?

She first introduced me to the vintage cards many years ago, and ever since then I was hooked.  Here is one that I've kept over the years, and I don't think she knows I still have it.  The edges of the card are a bit worn and bent, but it's in pretty good condition after all these years.

The little window pops open,
so cute.

Wishing you a pleasant
weekend, friends.
