Lucille's

This week, Nel ordered many dishes from one of our favorite restaurants, Lucille's.   I'm not sure if you have a Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ in your state, but it sure is good.  For her brother's birthday, she ordered barbecued ribs, brisket, mashed potatoes, baked beans, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and their famous biscuits with apple butter.  I don't have any pictures of the food, cause when you eat Lucille's, there's no time to waste.  ; )

After we cleared the dishes, we had a piece of strawberry cake that I made and coffee.  Nel has a little space in her kitchen with a coffee tray.  She's had these cups and saucers for years, and I've always liked them - they are just the right size to enjoy coffee.

Nel's dog, Ozzie, who is very old.
He's just relaxing after a bath and a hair cut
at the pet shop.

Remember these?

Nel's new tea pot

I think it's wonderful that Nel treats herself to flowers often, and it brightens up the house.  She buys them at Trader Joe's which has a great selection.  After planting my red roses in my back yard, I guess she wanted some too.

This little one was having fun and laughing
while her uncle read her the book,
The Berenstain Bears Around the World.

I am constantly looking at Nel's unique items around her house when I go over there.  I liked this frog so much, that she ordered me one just like it.  This fellow is from Disney's, Princess and the Frog.

It was a really nice day,
and Nel made it special for her brother.
Do you have a Lucille's in your area?

A Surprise On The Patio

Nel surprised me with a lovely flower pot this weekend.  After she brought it over, I was talking to her for a bit about the types of flowers and plants that I like.  I told her that I didn't really like the vegetation in So. Cal - the birds of paradise, the tropical plants, etc.  Rather I like the simple and minimal look with roses, peonies, daisies.  She said, "oh, more of a French garden."  I said, "yes, that's exactly what I like."  After visiting for awhile, she went outside, turned on her French music and planted these.

She poured mulch all through the patio area, raked it, and made it look nice.  The pot she bought was a cream color, which was a nice contrast with the red roses.  Enjoy the song with the pictures.

Thank you Nel,
I really love my red roses.

You deserve flowers on your doorstep
and coffee in the morning.

Mount Baldy

A few weeks ago, me and Nel wanted to get out of town and took a drive up to Mount Baldy.  If you're not familiar with this place, it's the town before Big Bear.  Mount Baldy Resort is where the little ones had so much fun last Winter.

It's a small quaint village that has restaurants and more, and it snows in the Winter, but this is what it looks like in the Summer.

There are some beautiful yellow flowers
growing right on the mountainside!

I was having such a good time
that I didn't want to leave.

Dealing with a difficult neighbor right now, friends.  I try to keep my distance, but when he knocks on the door and starts to ramble on about this and that, it's very upsetting.  I'm asking you to say a prayer for me, if you would.  In life, we get good neighbors and not so good neighbors, and it's been a hard living situation for me, to say the least.

Jess bought me this new cup - both her and I like polka dots.  I love what it says, and it's fitting for what I want in life right now.

Firework Brownie

Did you have a nice 4th of July?  A little bit different this year, right?  I went over to Nel's house for lunch.  It was a very small gathering, but that was Ok.  I'm still keeping my distance from large groups, because for me, that gives me peace of mind.  Nel got fried chicken from the store, and she also made a pot of jambalaya.  It was spicy and so tasty.  Her brother loved it.  For dessert, she made a brownie with cream cheese frosting.  With blueberries and strawberries, she made fireworks on top of the brownie.

She found these holiday plates on Amazon.
Aren't they cute?

She got some bubbles and sparklers
for later on in the day.

Mia doesn't like to have her hair done.  It's a chore for Nel to put barrettes or rubber bands in her hair, and she sometimes even cries.  But she managed to get some pigtails, and it looked so cute that day.

Notice the red in the corner of the picture?  That is my Troll with red hair.  It was a joy to watch Mia play with the Troll I've had for so many years.  Nel brought out some of her childhood ones, and it was funny to watch Mia line them up in a row and enjoy.  I was teaching her colors with each Troll's hair haha.

Isn't this the cutest dress that Francesca has on?  Her other grandma bought it for her, and it's darling.  Love the flounce at the bottom of the dress.

With all the craziness that's going on in the world, I keep telling myself we are fortunate to live in a place where we hold freedom in our hands.  That doesn't mean that we take advantage of that freedom, which some people do.   I have had people in my life that abuse their gift of freedom by not showing respect to neighbors, friends, or family members and acting in uncivilized and offensive ways.  Let us always appreciate the freedom we have and show kindness and goodness to the ones around us.
