Ridiculous Rules

It was a really bad day.  I had missed a scheduled dental appt., and I called to cancel, but was supposed to call 24 hours prior, so before I could make another appt., I had to do what was called a "stand by," which means that I had to come in for four hours early in the morning or later in the afternoon, just sit there, and not be seen that day.  I told them I didn't call 24 hrs. before, cause there was something that came up last minute that I had to take care of.  She apologized, but I had to do the hours anyways.  This isn't just a dental office - the doctor's office is connected, and there are people coming and going all day.  But I was relieved that this particular day wasn't too busy.  So, for four hours, I sat there impatiently waiting.  Thankfully, I had a National Geographic magazine that my blog friend, Mariette, sent me.....good reading material.  When I was ready to go, I asked her for a receipt showing I did the hours, and she said they don't print out receipts, but they do log it in the computer.  I said, "then I need a note saying I fulfilled the hours.  I'm not doing this again."  So she gave me one.  Oh, mankind, and his/her attempt to try to make things better, but often only make things worse.  When I'm consumed with the shallowness of others, I have to retreat to nature and become balanced again.

And I need color in my life!

And Chinese food at least once a month. ; )

There is a restaurant in town that has a few paintings on the outside of the building.  I think the artist is talented, and did a nice job on them.

Remember Mia's cat, Felix?  Well, they soon discovered that he was a girl.  They wanted to keep the name Felix, but decided to change it to Cleo.  She is settling in, and Mia just loves her.

Dearest Sheri,
How AWFUL such rules that absolutely don't make any sense!
Glad you found some reading time and your nature visit after that was superb.
All those creatures looked at you in agreement — they far better know about kindness than some people nowadays.
That artist understood how to brighten things up!
We all need that...
Haha, what a funny tale about Felix. Thought they would have gone for Felicia... But Cleo will work for this happy kitty girl!
Mia seems to have bonded quite well with her—look at that happy baby face.
Big hugs,
Mariette

What a cute! And Cleo is beautiful! I don't know how on earth you managed to get a pic of him looking so relaxed! Your nature shots are beautiful, and they make me feel like I was there. The perfect things to admire after a wild day in a busy office. I never heard of this kind of thing for missed appointments. Here, if you do not give at least 24 hours notice, they charge you about $75.00, depending on which office it is.

I am sorry for those silly rules! Beautiful photos and adorable Grands! I do love chinese food. I learned how to prepare yakisoba with shrimps and my Mom and hubbie love it! Blessings my dear friend.

What a bizarre rule, sitting somewhere for four hours. Being exposed to who knows what germs too. Cleo is cute but not sure that is a change to a girl's name, my father in law is Cleo. I love your rural photos, the horse and the hay.

What are they thinking to abuse clients! Wait 4 hours is abuse. I find it difficult the medical ethics board allows it. They owe you an hourly fee.

How cute cat;-)

Four hours.. that sound like a bit much. If we cancel we usually get charged the copay but thankfully we have never had to.. often the doctors are nice enough to waive it as a first time courtesy.

A delightful post Sheri, well all except the dentist thing. That's awful! They are very rigid with their rules.

WAIT A MINUTE. Are you telling me that if you cancel an appointment without giving a 24 hour notice, you have to go sit in their office for 4 hours as punishment??

Are you an employee there or a patient? Am I understanding this?

Are there no other doctor's offices nearby...or faraway?

What a sweet kitty. I am trying very hard to see only the good side of things, its part of my new me program. I thought it might be hard to find the good side of sitting as punishment for four hours, but that would be a blessing for me. I could crochet, with no interruptions, or read a whole chapter in a book.
I really have to hand it to you. Now the walk in the woods, that would be perfect.

Hi Sheri, I am with Sandi here.. asking the same question?

I am sending HUGE HUGS!!! I have never heard of such a thing going on here in our local area. I am going to ask some of my friends about this.

Oh my goodness, I just cannot believe it.

More HUGS!!! Carla

Hi Sheri,
That is crazy to make you sit in their office for four hours? Who has time to do that? That is insane. I would find another dentist. There are many reasons that require rescheduling appointments. What happens if you wake up in the morning and are sick? Do they want you to come in anyhow? Ugh that is terrible. I have never heard of a dentist or doctor doing this to their patients. I am so sorry you had to do that. I hope you had a better day today.

That would really upset me, as well! Four Hours?? A little over the top! Perhaps a new dentist is in your future? It would be in mine!
I get that people just never call back to cancel appointments and those few appointments could have gone to someone who really needed to get in but...Four Hours???
Overkill...

Good morning dear Sheri! Yes, nature is the best earthly escape from the noise of "progess" or the stresses that ensue from technology. And color?Yes, even for me, a snow-loving Minnesotan, I need some color in my home!

A girl named Felix would have been cute! My friend Theresa named her stray Petey then found out she was a girl, left the name as Petey. I understand the needing balance. Nature is the greatest way of doing that. I used to dig in the dirt of my flowerbeds, or pulling weeds. There is just something about having your hands in the earth. Now, I get in the car with my camera and take a long ride around. I have yet to miss a doc apt but I have ended up there a day early! TWICE!!! lol.....

Did I read correctly that because you missed an appointment they made you sit for four hours as a punishment? What if you didn't do it?
Here there is a $25 charge and most will wave it with a valid excuse.
Sorry about that.
I do agree with you about nature and getting closer to God helps.
That looked like a snake at first with that cow - but it wasn't.
Horses, barns, nature, and mountains you have it all right there!
Sweets too. lol.
And of course one of your two lights of your life.
So that cat is a she not he. lol
Have a good day.

Oh Sheri....I sure did enjoy this visit with you today....I am afraid I would have refused to use that dentist again...absurd...that's not what healthcare is about....and I share your thought....nature connection to feel balanced....and...then there is Cleo...I love her too!

That makes absolutely no sense to me to have you wait in the office that long…without even seeing the dentist! We had a cat that we thought was a male. Turned out to be a female. I do love the name Cleo.

Oh my! I have never heard of "stand by". That really sounds ridiculous. Sorry you had to do it, but glad you had something to read. Yes, to escaping to nature. My walks in my garden every morning with my camera in hand soothe me.

Four hour standby?? Why have they made this rule?
You changed your feeling peacefully.

Susan said...

Oh Sheri. I'm so sorry you had a difficult day. In my entire life, I've never heard of standby punishment. For myself, I'd certainly be out-the-door and never return! Four hours of one's life is a lot and each moment we have is precious. Gee whiz. Things happen in our lives over which we have no control. Where is the kindness in that dentist/doctor's office? Where is the compassion and human forgiveness and understanding?
Cleo is sooooo adorable and your other photos are also terrific. Sheri, I hope you change dentists. Susan

I can certainly understand you needing good things to help you decompress after that. I guess all of us who read this are astounded at such a practice, especially when you think of being at risk for exposure to viruses going around. I wonder if this will become standard practice everywhere. If it does I can't help but think of the times a doctor's office has called at the last minute due to being called to emergency surgery. Would they then offer a reward to us for having cancelled? I know many people take advantage and cancel thoughtlessly so there probably should be some control over those who repeatedly cancel. What a mess but I'm glad you know what helps to restore your equilibrium and you take steps to recover it. Yours are the things that help me too!

That's just awful, Sheri. It's like being sent to the principal's office or to time out -- not for adults (and especially adults that actually called). Here we have to pay $25 for missed appointments and sometimes they even let that slide. Seems foolish, too, in these Covid days (although it's not so bad right now, at least here) to gather a bunch of people in a waiting room.

Well, you certainly found beauty and joy elsewhere. I love that road shot and your mountain and animal photos. All the photos. And Cleo and the girls are darlings! I hope you had a nice cuppa tea when you got home. You needed it.

Marilyn @ MountainTopSpice said...

Oh my goodness, sweet Sheri! Four hours! I've never heard of punishing the patient. This seems like an office that is more about money and making a point than really helping people. Unbelievable. I think, if I had a choice for other dentists/doctors, I would definitely find somewhere else to give my business. What a nightmare!

But oh! Your lovely pictures in nature were soothing to the soul! And how sweet to enjoy some Chinese food, always a treat! The cupcake made me hungry - since I am doing no-sugar, I was thinking about a chocolate brownie mug tonight with no-sugar. Those are pretty good! And poor little Felix, or like Mariette said Felicia, or Cleo, all lovely names! We had a cat named Prince once. After a visit to the vet, he was a princess, and pregnant... now that was wild! Blessings to you dear friend (I hope your blood pressure has come back to normal after that dentist detention!) Hugs!
