Silent Snow

Hello, and Happy New Year!  There are so many storms going on in the country right now, and I've been thinking of all the people who are facing fierce weather conditions this Winter.  We've had rain, winds, and snow here in northern California, and the winds were so strong one night while I was driving, that I felt it move my car.  Another night while driving, I saw three big deer.  They had just crossed the road - it was dark, and I could barely see them, but I was only going 40, so was able to slow down, and noticed they had crossed safely.  We are still seeing some Autumn colors, along with snow, and there always seems to be a stillness when it falls, a silent snow.

We have had a week of rain!  And the creek is filling up and overflowing.

The clouds looked so pretty one day when I visited the creek.

Our mountain had fog surrounding it, it looked so beautiful when I was driving down the road to go home.

It's been very cold outside, but warm inside, as my brother had two heaters installed, and they finally completed the work.  I'm so thankful for this, as it's much warmer now in the house.  Some hot chocolate sounds good on this cold Wintery day.

All my Christmas is put away, but the spirit still lingers, so I made a little Winter display with blues, and brought out my Thomas Kinkade painting, blue cobalt vase that a blog friend gave me, and my snow fairy.

A felt red rose buried in the snow.

I love January's quote on my new calendar.

The statues at my church are drenched with rain, and dear Saint Francis is looking on.

When I went shopping with the girls, at one particular shop there was a bunch of red glass hearts that were displayed on a table.  In the middle of all those hearts, there was one purple one.  It was so lovely to me, and my favorite color, and Jess bought it for me.  It reminded me that it's ok to be different, and to not let others sway you from being who you are, the person you were meant to be.

Mia is getting very attached to her new kitty, Felix.  She is learning to be gentle with it, and she loves him so much.

Chinese food sounded perfect to ring in the new year, so I ordered some take-out.

Nel and Mia got their nails painted green for the new year.  Such a fun mother, daughter thing to do.

Have a bright New Year!

I will leave you with these delightful paintings by a very talented artist.  They enchant me, just like my silent snow does, and remind me how much I love the Winters up here.

Dearest Sheri,
WOW that photo with the tree in autumn colors and the snow is stunning—what a sight of beauty.
Happy for you for having had help by your brother with installing the two heaters to have a comfy home!
Hot chocolate used to be my favorite but I'm no longer allowed to have chocolate with my stage IV CKD.
But the memory remains inside of us till our last breath.
Lovely chest of drawers in white...
And the red rose is one symbolizing strength!
It sure teaches us to be ourselves—no matter what.
Oh, no doubt Felix is being loved by Mia — great bonding time.
Big hugs,
Mariette

Gosh I do enjoy your posts. So interesting. The poor rose with ice - lol. I think we all got blasted one way or another.
Your scenery there with the mountains - the clouds - the snow - water on the creek is wonderfully beautiful.
I love hot chocolate too - but it has a lot of sugar for me.
Mia is so adorable with her cute cat.
I love the blues on your white table with the Kincaid artwork.
I also enjoy Laura Ingalls and I loved Little House on the Prairie.
The heart looks blue - but your favorite color is purple. That is my birth month.
I like St. Francis of Assisi and some of his writings. I actually saw his monastery years ago. They have a restaurant there.
Nails with moms and daughters are fun.
I am two shorts away from finishing Emily In Paris - I bet I know what is going to happen.
Love, sandie

Silent snow, our first one, barely an inch if that, came in silent, but only after following a storm. That was two days before Christmas, stay around making it a White Christmas but then the day after we got more. Still not amounting to much. I love the purple heart! My fave color. Mia and her kitchen are so adorable. You can tell Mia loves it. Cute.

Happy New Year
Beautiful post, the creek has a spring rain look almost glossing over thoughts of winter. Lovely artwork. A kitten is a sweet way to start the year. Stay warm and dry

What a wonderful post, Sheri! I loved hearing about these special moments o fyour holiday and seeing the beautiful images -- the snow, the water, the mountain. Oh, so lovely. I loved dear Mia and the cat, and that fabulous purple heart. And of course, your white table with the painting. I am especially touched by the resilience of the red rose in the snow. And those paintings -- a new artist for me. Thanks for the introduction.

A very happy new year to you, my friend!

Oh Sheri, what wonderful photos of your surroundings. You live in the most beautiful area. The snow, the trees, the mountains, the creek - all look lovely. Your Winter vignette is really pretty, and such a nice idea after Christmas. What a good idea to celebrate New Year with some Chinese dinner. We had a roast chicken here, and it was good! Anna Speshilova does beautiful Winter scenes, I love them too. Happy New Year, dear Sheri.

Happy New Year Sheri! You have snow and we had a bad storm this morning! The Friday before Christmas the lights kept going out due to strong winds and now the weather is warm again! It looks like your year is off to a great start! Wishing you a wonderful 2023!

Oh Sheri - what lovely photos as well as art. It looks so peaceful even though you are receiving such bad weather. I know our winds were extremely strong but God was good and our power stayed on. Right now it is chilling down a bit after a few days of feeling like spring.
I love those green nails. Am half tempted to treat myself this winter to a nail job. They would not survive in the spring because I am always digging in the garden but maybe they would help chase away those winter blues for the next couple of months.
You and I both love those blue dishes. Stay safe and warm friend. P.S. going to look for that Godiva Hot Chocolate - looks perfect for a cold winter's day. Hugs!
