What's In A Name

Hello, and how is your Summer going?  It's been warm here, but not too hot.  It doesn't get that hot up in the mountains of northern California.

As you know, Jess is pregnant, and she'll be having the baby soon.  She's been thinking of girl names for the little one, and she can't seem to come up with just the right name for her.

I told her that there is one name that I've always thought was beautiful, Isabel.  She likes it too, but it's the name of a not so pleasant character in a movie she's watching.  Funny how you don't want to name your kids after a character that you don't particularly like haha.

When Nel was born, I named her Danelle after my cousin, which I was close to.  I thought the name was unusual, and I loved it.  When she started school, people would sometimes call her Danielle, which was a popular name at the time.

When Jess was born, I named her Jessica because I thought it was the prettiest name, an old name that went back for hundreds of years.

"What's in a name?  That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

~Shakespeare

Well, I think a name is really important and a part of who we are.  And having good character along with a graceful name is even better.

So, what I'm asking you for today is if you know of any exceptional or unique names, please mention them to us.  Jess would appreciate it, as the baby will be coming very soon.  Thank you, friends.

I’ve had a love hate relationship with my name, but can now say with certainty that I love it. Sophia is a favorite.

How exciting! Isabel is a lovely name but having a memory of a character could kind of stay with you. Those old names are timeless aren’t they? If I had a girl I was going to name her Elizabeth Grace. Had a boy instead :) I am sure that whatever the name you choose, it will be perfect. Sweet photos of your family Sheri and I liked the flamingo photo too. Good luck on the name hunting :)

Oh I had missed that Jess was going to have another baby! Congratulations to her and your family, Sheri. Naming a baby is so exciting and one that takes time. I do like the name Isabel and don't hear it much these days. I do like unusual names. Summer is a great name for a little girl in my humble opinion! I'm sure whatever she decides it will be perfect for your new grandchild.

How exciting to have another little girl in your family. I gave my daughter the middle name of Noelle because I loved Christmas. She likes it so well she often uses her full name of Jill Noelle.

Hello,
If we would have had a girl, we planned to name her Alice. But we did not have girls, we had two boys, Samuel and Atticus. :-)
Love, Carla

Choosing a name should be left to the parents. It is something that remains lifelong.

I like girls names with a lot of nicknames -- Elizabeth, Margaret, Christina, Kathleen, come to mind. And the names are classic and stand the test of time, too.

Congratulations to all of you for the future addition to your family! I have no idea for names....

The name used as a first name is my last name ,I always wonder when and how that happened. As a child in school teachers would pronounce Wren as Wern so embarrassing . Hope you find a name that will fit beautifully with her last name.

How exciting that there is to be another little one! When we were expecting ours, we had no way of knowing if we would have girls or boys. We had names for both just from looking through a baby name book. Turns out our oldest was a girl, then 20 months later we gave birth to her twin sisters! Had no idea there would be twins, either! It was a scramble to come up with another name!

What a wonderful time for Jess and for you all! I love the name Grace and I have two in my family now- Haley Grace and Olivia Grace. My other granddaughter went with Hadleigh Jo. Isabelle is a pretty name. It is always fun for the parents to bounce names around until they find the absolute perfect one.

In Mallorca the Tradition for children is to have the same name that the grandfathers if the children is a boy, and the same name that the grandmother if is a girl. Ever was this. But in modern times ever do what they want.
The important is: to select a beautiful name. And that the name made happy to the fathers.
This is the best.

Hi Sherri, Oh your girls are so pretty. My four girls have mixed names from many family members. I like the name Gabriella. People will shorten it to Gabby. I think when choosing a name ..one needs to say it over and over with the last name nothing too much of a rhyme . Or could be turned into something funny or quirky...cause dang it kids will be kids and torment each other. Blessings to all, xoxo, love, Susie
P.S. I have a new g.grandson, Layne

Names are so important, Sheri. Just think of what my name means these days and I can verify that! I know I am coming in late on this post, but I wanted to say that I think Isabelle is beautiful, too. My daughter, Heather always loved the name, Ivy Isabelle, and would have named her child that if she had a girl. She had three boys and won't have any more, so the name never became a reality. You must be getting excited and a little anxious, so I'll be sending positive thoughts and prayers for Mom and baby. Hugs xo K
