Oh, how I appreciate the Landscaper. They work so hard grooming our spaces and beautifying our homes. He came out last week and did so much work....gathered pine cones (there were a lot!), mowed the lawn, weedeated the front of the house, raked and piled everything up, and hauled it away. Not only that, he did my back yard as well, getting rid of the plant that grows wild and tall this time of year. I could write a whole post about the Landscaper, but I won't. I know how hard they work, as I've been out there myself bending over, clearing, weeding, piling, and sprucing up, only to find that my body aches and is sore the next day. My yard looks very nice for Spring, and I still have to get out there and do some weeding and maybe buy a pot of pink roses.
My brother-in-law came into town, so he stopped by for a visit. I was outside working, and we were both hungry, so we went over to the Chinese Restaurant for lunch. I usually get different take-out dishes, but this time, I ordered a luncheon plate and a coke. It was delicious, and they have the best cream cheese and crab Wontons that I get almost every time.
Then, we went over to the store and picked up a few things. It was such a fun day spent with my family.
Everything is in full bloom now.
When you see the California Quail, it's hard not to take a picture of them because they are our state bird, but when you see a family of them on your lawn, you stop what you're doing and just gaze for a while. They are such funny birds, with the male having a cluster of feathers on its head. They are plump little birds, spending most of their time on the ground searching for food.
While driving these mountain roads, you see some good things and not so good things along the way....like the deer who got hit laying on the edge of the road. There are far too many that I see, and when I do, it breaks my heart. I went to the creek to see if the orange poppies have bloomed - no poppies yet, but everything was so green, growing wild and pretty.
Then, out of nowhere, dozens of birds showed up swirling the skies. It was a sight.
Saturday afternoon we had a thunderstorm and hail!
I have been looking for a see-through travel bag, and found a cute one to put my travel essentials in when it's time for my next trip.
A salad filled with so many good things....butter lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, eggs, pepper jack cheese, and ranch dressing.
My calendar for May, my birthday month. It's the perfect word for me, as I don't have this valuable trait. I want things done today, and if possible, yesterday haha.
The mom that's sewing on this page reminds me of my dear mom, who sewed many of my clothes growing up, and so many other things. Jess was gifted an old Singer sewing machine that belonged to Brian's grandma. What a treasure.
One of the greatest joys in my life was being a mother.
Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely mothers out there. 🌹

Such lovely photos. Everything looks so fresh and green. Happy Mother's Day to you as well.
I love how you appreciate the hard work of your landscaper! It’s so true how much effort goes into making our outdoor spaces look beautiful. I can relate to the soreness that follows a day of yard work—it’s definitely rewarding but takes a toll. Your mention of the crab wontons and lunch with family sounds wonderful, too. I just posted a new blog about Body Confident You: Body Confident Kid, and I’d love for you to check it out and share your thoughts: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2025/05/body-confident-you-body-confident-kid-book-review.html. Wishing you lots of joy as everything blooms this Spring
Today's is a lovely, variety-filled post, Sheri. The photo of you with the kids is precious. Maybe those birds appeared to welcome you! The flower photos are lovely. Even the salad looks really good. Hope you have a splendid day today. Hugs. Susan
It certainly sounds like you have a wonderful landscaper. I am sure you appreciate him very much. Glad you had a fun day with your brother-in-law. Those Wontons look especially delicious. Adore the picture with your daughters and son. I am sure they have been so blessed having you for a mother. Glad to see that things are blooming and getting truly beautiful in your corner of the world. Enjoy this lovely time of the year friend. Hugs to you! P.S. Happy Mother's Day and birthday as well.
Happy Mother’s Day and birthday. You are a blessing to me.
My Mom had a sewing machine that looked like this! And the one quote is so right...sooner or later you will end up quoting your mother! Your tulips are gorgeous! I am so glad you snapped the Quail! I have only seen a real one once! They are so cute!
Good morning Sheri...This is a lovely post for the week just before Mother's Day...Of course, Mother's day is every day in my opinion. I have never seen the state bird of California...the big quail is such a pretty bird. I so love my yard guy. He is a good friend and always goes way above what he has to in order to make my yard look so good. Plus...he brings me eggs every week which is a big bonus. It just makes a person feel great when the yard is clean. So nice for your BIL to stop by and how nice that you all were able to enjoy a nice meal. You have a lot of uplifting photos in this post and it sure put a smile on my face. Hope your week is filled with all the goodness that can possible by yours.. Happy Early Mother's Day to you and to your girls.
A beautiful post my dear friend. Happy Mother's Day to you too. I love that photo of you and your family.
Thank you for sharing the quail, I think they are so cute. :-)

Beautiful and heartwarming photos. Happy Mother's Day to you! The crab wontons....I have never tried these, but I have had egg rolls with crab, and they are delicious! The salad looks delicious!
First time I see California quail, they are wonderful. My mom and I also have birthdays in May. Hugs, best wishes Sheri.
So much to here and talk about. I am so glad the landscaper lived up to your expectations and did a great job.
I have never had wontons with cream cheese.
I LOVE TULIPS - they looked so beautiful.
I guess the female quails don't have that plume on their head.
We had thunder and hail this past week too.
The salad looked good.
And nice plastic bag - that is what they want you to carry everywhere now.
I love the picture of you with the kids.
I ALSO NEED PATIENCE.
Happy birthday this month.
Love, sandie
I love the photo of you and your children. I'm guessing your yard looks pretty spectacular right now. Mine certainly does NOT! Hats off to your landscaper. And you had good visits, too, and lots of fun. Those wontons look terrific!
That's nice your brother-in-law stopped by, and lunch at the Chinese restaurant sounds tasty, especially those cream cheese and crab wontons. How lovely to see a family of California Quail on your lawn, they are such charming birds. Hopefully, those orange poppies will bloom soon and add some extra beauty to the creek.
The tulips are wonderful in all their colors.
The photo with the water and the birds above it is magnificent, what a moment, wow.
The black and white photo of you is beautiful.
I wish you a very nice week
Oh, such a sweet photo of you and your children, Sheri. x Those days go by so fast, don't they? Love the pretty tulips and the little quail. I just love their call. We had smaller ones in New England where I grew up and we called them 'Bob-White's' because that is what it sounded like they were saying.
It's so nice that you have such an appreciation for your landscaper. That is a very strenuous job, but a nice one if you love to work outside in nature. It must be so nice to go out and see things all neat and tidy afterwards.
The scene with the river valley and the mountains is so beautiful. Then to see the flock of birds must have been so wonderful.
The clear bag is perfect for traveling and would make a nice gift for someone, too.
Love the vintage sewing machine and the memories of your dear mother making your childhood clothes. The quotes are so true!
Happy Mother's Day, dear Sheri!
Hugs xo K
A delightful post Sheri and such a beautiful photo of you with your three children. Amazing to see all those birds and an incredible backdrop. Such scenery! I remember seeing the quail on my trip to the west coast. They are fun to watch for a while. Your flowers are gorgeous! I take my hat off to the landscapers. We get our garden done now and they always do a marvelous job. How nice to see your brother-in-law. Lovely memories of your mother and the gifted singer looks exactly like the one my grandmother had. That’s a nice see-through bag, I remember something similar that I used to keep my make-up in. Have a wonderful rest of the week my friend, and Happy Mother’s Day!
Your post here has encouraged me to try to post for Mother's Day! we are going to Top Golf. I would prefer a tea party but I had one for my birthday in 2023 so I will enjoy seeing my grands. My surgery knocked my socks off and the healing would have been easier had they informed me of the permanent nerve damage. Life is hard, I Hear my mom's voice telling me to pray harder. I am glad you had a great lunch and good company. Your landscaper sounds wonderful. So many don't notice people who work so hard. Thank you for sharing.
What a wonderful post. I did the spring cleanup but not sure how many more years I will be doing that.
Wonderful quail picture.
Happy Monther's Day
Cathy
You live in such a beautiful part of California. I love the few sightings I have had of the California quail. California poppies are so pretty too, when they bloom through the road sides. Your tulips are beautiful. Hoping you get that pink rose for your garden.
That's funny that sooner or later we all quote moms. That's true! Wow, wow on all of the birds. Excellent capture. Lovely energy on your blog.
This was such a lovely post, full of appreciation for the simple yet meaningful things in life. I really enjoyed the tribute to the Landscaper—such hard work often goes unnoticed, but you captured it beautifully. It's amazing how much effort it takes to maintain a yard, and it’s clear you don’t take that for granted. The little detour to a Chinese lunch sounded perfect too—especially those crab Wontons! And I loved your description of the California Quail. What a treat to see them up close. Your writing always feels like a peaceful conversation. Thank you for sharing.
