I have been thinking of my dear friend lately, as her birthday is the first day of Spring, and we've had plenty of sunshine this month. Her name was Mireya, and she was a childhood friend who lived right around the corner from me growing up. Her family owned the Mexican eatery in my hometown, and she would make me the best red meat tacos, and oh, that sauce! I often talk about the Mexican restaurant that I go to here in the mountains. I went there recently, and was talking to the young lady that's new who works there. She's the sweetest thing. It was take-out this time, and I picked up my order, and carried on with our conversation. I asked her what her name was this time, cause she's always so helpful and polite. She said, "Mireya." I smiled big, and told her one of my dear friend's name was Mireya. I asked her how she spelled that, and it's exactly the same way my friend spelled her name. I went on to tell her that she owned the Mexican eatery in my hometown, and that she passed away and I miss her. I mentioned that she used to always give me one of the pink cookies or pastries in her shop before I left, and they also sell the pink pastries in this restaurant too. Mireya was a very good friend, and we would spend many a day at each other's houses, listening to music, going to the dime store, and just hanging out. In our later years, we would meet for coffee at Starbuck's and catch up on our lives. I was so surprised when the young lady told me her name, and it brought back fond memories of my beloved friend.
The creek shows hope as it's brimming with water.
Isn't it funny when we de-clutter and are in the process of going through boxes and we find some surprises along the way? I came across a few things myself.....like the gold rocks, the white rock that I found when me and my son visited the lake, an old discolored doily that my grandmother crocheted, a picture of grandma with the girls (three generations), and the card that she had on her kitchen counter until she passed. Oh, these things have no meaning to anyone but myself, but still I can never part with them.
Going on a bike ride. Jess said it was so nice to get out after the fires.
Mia having her first friend's house sleepover without her mama. It was emotional for Nel, and we reminisced about Nel's first sleepover at her friend, Ashley's house when she was little.
Had a nice chat with my neighbor, Lisa. She is the neighbor who has the hummingbird feeder at her house. We talked about the fires that are happening in So Cal. My brother-in-law from Seattle and my best friend also checked in with me. It was so good of them.
When I was in the store parking lot, I passed a jeep with a sign on the back of the car. It said Fear Not. I didn't get a picture cause I didn't have my camera with me, but it was a beautiful message.
And a few pictures of the home, cause you know it's my favorite place to be. I love conversation hearts, so when I saw this candle, I thought it was so neat. It was a bit pricey, but who doesn't appreciate a candle of love?
January is passing swiftly. Have a splendid week. 🍩

Good morning Sheri. Sweet memories of your childhood friend., sorry for her passing. How unique that this other friend you made would have the same name. That is like a God wink saying to you that your friend is with HIM. First sleep over for Mia. how exciting and I hope she had a wonderful time with some good memories. I love how when we do clean out, we come across so many things that are dear and near to our hearts. The pink cookies look amazing and I'm guessing they taste amazing as well...so cute! Hoping you have a lot of sunshine today.
Oh I really enjoy those Mexican cookie Polvorones. I wonder if they are hard to bake. I like them fresh and as far as I know, we don’t have any Mexican bakeries in town like in the Bay Area.
That was a sweet story you shared about your friend. It’s hard when we lose our best friends - I think of my 2 best friends (Susie and Lana) often and miss them terribly. You can’t replace that kind of friendship!
Glad Jess was able to get a bike ride and how exciting for Mia on her first sleep over.
I have a trunk that I have a lot of special things inside - that are meaningful just to me. I haven’t looked through it in years - now I want to go through it.
Another sunny day here - mild temperatures but our winter is not done yet. It’s coming… 🥶
Enjoy the day and the week. God Bless
Ah Sheri have been praying for southern California. Was glad to see your girls out after things improved. Fire like this happening is just unimaginable. Adore the photo and rocks and "Be still and know I am God" quote. Yes, no one can always understand why something is a treasure but we know what they mean to us. I have a few of my own...nothing of great value but priceless because they bring back such beautiful memories. Take care and thanks for sharing the wonderful story about your special friend. Hugs!
Hello Friend,

These are real treasures that you found; irreplaceable! I love the candle. It was so hard to find the real conversation hearts this year! None even at Wal-Mart! How amazing about this lady's name being the same as your good friend? I have never seen pink pastries like this before! Is this a common Mexican food? I have never even seen them in Mexican restaraunts! What a joyful photo of the girls!
Hello! I think that was a God wink having a friend who worked at that restaurant named Mireya and then finding another girl with the same name working there years later! What are the chances of that? I have never seen those cookies. They looked good.
Isn't it funny how rocks can be priceless to us and to other's when we are gone will probably throw them away.
I love that picture of all the girls - your mom was beautiful!
I love the Valentine's love candle.
Charlotte has gotten so big and so many teeth.
Hope Mia did well at her sleepover.
Boston Tea Party tea - cool!!!!
And that little blue snowman.

Oh Sheri, everything is just so pretty in here! Memories, especially the sweet ones, are wonderful. Charlotte is adorable, as always...and that girl's name! I think it was a sign from your sweet heavenly friend! How wonderful...

I love those pink cookies. And Andes mints, too. But I was especially enchanted with your story of your friend Mireya and encountering someone much like her in name (and restaurant, too.) I, too, love finding forgotten treasures and I wouldn't part with mine, either!
Lovely memories and a new meeting to make them more special.
Keeping things that mean something to us helps our hearts glow.
You always tell stories so beautifully, I see everything in front of me while I read. Memories are a great treasure.
Mia and Charlotte are lovely, they laugh so happily.
Adorable remembrances...God's ways...
I love walking down memory lane with you. That seems an unusual name and then to find someone with that same name so close to your home must have really felt special---and she sounds like a special girl like your childhood friend.
I love the conversational heart candle. That's 'sweet'....and so are the girls and sweet little Mia going off to her first sleep away. That is always a bit of a heartache for Mom.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week. xo Diana
Those pink cookies look good!
Heatwarming story. I can see your smile.
Hi Sheri,
What memorable items you found while decluttering, it does take you down memory lane. Mia is a cutie.
Angels appear when we least expect it. Polvorones and conchas are so tasty especially with a hot cup of coffee. I love the winter wonderland and love notes in your home. Stay warm & cozy my friend. The grands are getting so big.
Hugs my friend.
Love your memories. It is indeed difficult to let go of small trinkets that mean something special to us. I am having my estate sale this coming weekend and I think I won't go look at what they are selling or I will want to take it back. No looking back now for me.
