Christmas Shopping In The City

Me and my son have been wanting to drive to the city to see the sights and hear the sounds of Christmas.  It's about 50 minutes away, so we don't get there that often, and this time I drove.  I've been wanting to do some Christmas shopping, and go to some of the places that we don't have up here.  Now, this used to be a small country town when I was growing up, but now it's a big city with a mall, lots of restaurants, and plenty of shops.  Our first stop was to get a coffee and Christmas treat at Starbuck's.  I got my usual Cafe' Americano, and after enjoying our Christmas goodies, I bought some holiday coffee to bring home.

I heard that Home Goods opened very early during the season, so we headed over there before the crowds.  My son went to Sprouts while I was at Home Goods.

I absolutely loved browsing through all the isles.  I couldn't believe when I noticed there was a Valentine section already out.  I saw a Valentine nutcracker that was just too cute not to get.  And I put it out along with my other Christmas decorations.  Isn't this the most delightful nutcracker?

The next stop was Michaels and World Market.  I picked up some Marzipan Stollen, which is a German Christmas bread, and so delicious.

Barnes and Noble was right next to it, so I went inside to get a calendar for next year.  And Mary Engelbreit is the one for me - its cheerful pages makes me smile.

It was time for lunch.  All that shopping made me hungry, and I noticed an Italian restaurant in the distance, so we went there.  The atmosphere was so festive with Christmas trees, lights, and decorations.

You can always tell how a restaurant is if the cokes they serve are good.

I ordered chicken alfredo, which was creamy, thick, and very good.

It was time to do some more shopping.  While my son went to Trader Joe's to get some goodies, I went over to Kohl's.  Have you ever tried these Pastry Bites with Feta Cheese and Caramelized Onions?  They are tiny bites of goodness.  Nel and Jess get them all the time at Trader Joe's.

I bought a sweater at Kohl's - a classic soft cream colored sweater for winter.

After that, we drove over to Target, which was in the area, and then headed back home up the mountain.

I unpacked all my goodies, and enjoyed some of the foods we bought.  I was tired from the excitement of the day and the drive home, so later that evening I settled in and watched my favorite movie, White Christmas.

I had a great time with my son going to the city and having a day of Christmas fun.  Sons have a special way of making their mamas laugh, don't they?

We went at just the right time, cause the next morning we were covered in snow. ⛄

Oh my GOSH, Sheri. That was a marathon shopping trip you went on and it all sounded wonderful. I am so happy you got a chance to spend driving time and lunch with your son, too. That made it even more special. Loved all your purchases! The Valentine nutcracker is adorable. Thanks for sharing your holiday jaunt with us. LOVED it!

Sheri, so happy to see your beautiful face in this one!!! And what a happy day. I am envious of your Trader Joes haul. We don't have one near here! Enjoy these Christmas days, my friend.

I LOVED virtually shopping with you! You went to all my favorite places! Home Goods is my very favorite! Going there Wednesday and I hope to BUY this nutcracker!! Starbucks is always so much fun and so warming. And I love both Michael's and World Market. Need to wait for sales at both of those though.

What a lovely adventure of shopping. All my favorite places to stop. Love the new sweater. Oh, stollen! I need to look for one this week. I usually baked stollen each year, but this year I am skipping a lot of baking. I will be heading to Trader Joe's on Wednesday. What a cute nutcracker too. Now with snow and shopping, I am sure you must be in the Christmas spirit.

What a fun day Sheri. I love the snow, but of course, I'm not having to be out in it or drive in it. I think I would have made every single stop that you made. I was so surprised when I went in Home Goods last week and saw all of the Valentine items. You did good with your Pink Nutcracker. Christmas or Valentines...it is perfect. Hoping you have a wonderful week and can enjoy some time in the snow...

The snow picture is wonderful. Unfortunately we haven't had any snow yet.

The day with your son sounds pre-Christmas and you shopped so well. The Nutcracker is magical.

I love all of the stores you visited, with Barnes & Noble, Sprouts, and Trader Joe's being some of my favorites. I love your calendar, too! I just bought a new Susan Branch calendar for 2025. Have a wonderful week, dear friend, and enjoy all those yummy snacks! Oh, and that's a great picture of you!

Oh my goodness, you did a marathon with all your shopping. I didn't know you had such a big city that close to you. I love all those stores - HomeGoods, Sprouts, Micheals, World Market, Trader Joes's. We try to get to those stores every couple of months. Plus Whole Foods. Problem is I love to buy things but it's expensive $$$. lol
You sure did pick up a lot of lovely items - I do love your sweater - looks so soft and sweet,
I tell you what - here in GA it is COKE - if you can feel the burn in the back of the throat - it is a good one! Your meal looked good too.
And the pink Nutcracker - I love it but I can't believe it was out already!!
Glad you have your son to do things with.

Hi Sheri, what a great Christmastime post. You had an excellent trip to the city and how lovely to go with your son. I would like that too :) Your Valentine nut cracker is gorgeous, and perfect for under the Christmas tree too. I wish we had Michaels in Australia, as I have great memories of shopping there in the US and Canada. And I love your cosy sweater, it looks like snow, and perfect for the season. I love the snow scene outside your house: so pretty!

For goodness sakes - there you are! I missed this post and wondered where you were!
What a nice time with your son, you had and shopping at some of your favorite places! It sounds like a full day! What Italian place did go to? And did you see the palm trees on Cypress avenue?
That is a pretty sweater you bought. The snow is so pretty. I noticed all the snow on the mountains around me. We have a few fair days and then starting Saturday another round of rain and no doubt, snow for yours!
Christmas is almost here - enjoy every part of it. It goes by so quickly. 🎄

Sheri, that sounds like the perfect day, doing something you love to do with someone you love! That sweater is pretty and I might have to pick up those pastry feta bites myself at TJs! Your finds were terrific and I love that you shared the gift of time, time to explore, to shop, to lunch and I'm sure to talk and recall Christmases past! Merriest to you and all your family!

Oh Sheri what a fun day with your son. You always find the best places to eat and goodies to bring home. I adore your nutcracker...I have a friend who leaves her Christmas Tree up until Valentine's Day. I am too traditional but appreciate the idea of celebrating until the next holiday. Your friendship means so much and praying you have a delightful Christmas and the Happiest of New Year! Hugs!

What a delightful day of Christmas shopping! The festive atmosphere in the city must have been so enjoyable. That Valentine nutcracker sounds adorable, and the Marzipan Stollen from World Market is a great find. Your lunch at the Italian restaurant sounds perfect too—nothing like good food to recharge during a shopping spree.

What a wonderful shopping spree you and your son had. The Marshalls, TJ Max, and Homegoods has been opening at 7:00 am here for the past 3 weeks. It's wonderful to get early morning shopping or returns out of the way. I love things from Trader Joe's but the closest one in 40 minutes away so I don't go very often. It is so funny that Valentine stuff is already out so soon while everyone is still working on Christmas shopping. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Having an outing with our sons is the best, I can attest to that :) Such a joy to follow you as you shared your adventure. I am a big fan of Trader Joe's and will look for those appetizers. All the goodies looked very scrumptious. That is a lovely sweater. Merry Christmas my friend.
