Shopping And The Little Brown Book

I love shopping with my daughters.  Even when I don't buy anything, the outings are always nice.  When I was visiting them in So Cal recently, we did lots of shopping, and we paused and took a break to get a bite to eat.  This was the day when we had those fantastic tacos in the village.

I wanted to get them a little something, and bought Nel a tea cup candle, and Jess a small stand that says simplify.  She's been wanting to have a more simple life by clearing things out and organizing.

Before and after.

This was at an ice cream shop with Jess.  The ice cream was really good, thick, and creamy.

Many of you know the story of the song I often heard after my dad passed away, What a Wonderful World.  I would hear it in the grocery store, in the car while I was driving, just anywhere I was.  I heard it when my son came home from Kindergarten and sang me the song he learned at school that day.  When all my family was in Old Town San Diego, as we were walking through a festival, there was a man sitting on the side of the street playing his guitar and singing this song.  When me and Nel were shopping a couple years ago at a quaint home shop, shortly after we walked in, this song came on.  This song always seems to surface when my family is together.  The most recent moment occurred when me and Jess were shopping at a cute home store this last visit, and this time it didn't come in the way of a song, but in words inscribed on a little brown book, a journal.

I truly believe that it's still a wonderful world.

I came across this version of the song that I thought was so pretty.  I hope you enjoy listening to it.

Sweet photos. I would like to hope that it is still a wonderful world but as usual a few bad apples ruin it.

I like that journal book. That would be hard for me to pass up. It is a wonderful world; we have to have eyes to still see it in spite of its troubles.
I hope you battened down the hatches last night with this storm. Last night those wind gusts were powerful. Many neighbors are out this morning looking for their trash cans!
You tell such heartwarming stories about your beautiful family and memories. Have a lovely week. 💕

I love that song as well, Sheri! It's a message that I love to be reminded of, even with all the sadness of the news. I don't know if you know the song was written by Louis Armstrong. It was popular in the UK, but not the USA until after his death. It's great that you and your girls and granddaughters have such good times together. Love seeing your photo with the little brown book! Have a happy day!

It is so much fun to shop and looks with girls and friends. I used to do that a lot then everyone grew up and things changed a bit.
Looks to me like your daughter got things organized! Looks good.
So did the ice cream.
The baby is so sweet - and smiling - she is a happy baby.
I think hearing the song It's A Wonderful World when you are with family and finding that book - I call them God Winks - times when you know God is thinking of you and wants you to feel good and safe.
Love, sandie
PS I do think it is a wonderful world - no matter how many troubles there are.

I have not heard this version of the song before. I have always loved it, and even played it at my Mom's funeral, as a reminder of life. What a precious happy baby laugh!!

I am happy to see a mess in the child's drawer. This mess is creative and always inspires children. Skies of blue, clouds of white. I still remember this song from the movie "Good morning Vietnam". Nice week to you.

What a lovely rendition of Wonderful World, a song I really like too. I have sung it in the choir I loved which sadly folded. Fate has a curious way of working with us doesn't it - your were meant to find that song in your life at those moments. How special to find it on a journal, just waiting for you :)

También me gusta ir de compras y adquirir un buen modelito, para lucir cuando sales a la calle. Luego están las compras de la casa y de alientación, que es muy necesaria, para tener unos platos bien presentables, para servir en la mesa.
Un abrazo.

Hello, dear Sheri, I love that you get to go shopping with your daughters and little granddaughters. Those are special moments and memories. The photo of the girls holding hands is just so sweet. Hearing the special song whenever you are together lets you know your father's spirit lives on in each of you. I do believe it is a wonderful world, but you have to have eyes to see. My little 3 year old grandson has been singing that song lately! He knows all the words and isn't shy about singing it to anyone who will listen. My daughter even heard him singing it to himself one morning while he was still in his bed! There's something so special about that song. Thank you for sharing the beautiful new rendition. Sending hugs xo K

I miss shopping for supplies! Yeah, sometimes it's the memory, not the money spent. What a cute little baby there, too!

How I love that photo of the two cousins holding hands on their girls' shopping trip! What a blessing it is to be together and have so much fun. These are the memories that last forever. And of course the song that means so much to you is a gift. I remember it being played at a nephew's wedding and one of my sisters telling me the next day that she couldn't sleep all night because of It's A Wonderful World playing in her mind all night.

Beautiful song...and thoughts of your Dad...I know he's always with you...
I had a very close friend who committed suicide in 2022...he still comes around me in numbers like 333, 555, 111, 222 and the song, A Thousand Years.
Everywhere I go...
There IS life after Life...

Sheri - God bless you for sharing that gorgeous rendition of "What a Wonderful World". I just thought of that song this past week. We both must have been on the same "wave length." Shopping with your daughters is so lovely. My mama and I had special days just like yours and now that she has passed into her heavenly home those memories continue to warm my heart. Rest assured that you are making precious memories as well and someday they will warm your daughter's hearts too. Thank you friend for sharing such a great post. Hugs! P.S. I am always smiling when I leave your blog.

A great post Sheri! I love the song also. Adorable photos of you and your darling family. We lived in San Diego for many years in the 80s, and I remember Old Town like it was yesterday. Thank you for bringing back those memories.
