'Two Sweaters' Weather

It's cold now in the mountains, really cold.  It was 23 degrees when I got in my car one morning last week, and there was frost on my car.  It's time to cover the pipes so they don't freeze.  It's not just sweater weather, as the old saying goes, I'm bundling up with two sweaters now.  I'm thankful every year for the heaters, which keep me warm, and I baked some cookies, which also warmed me up.

I went to the home shop and looked around and talked with the owner, a, for about an hour and a half.  She showed me pictures of her house and all the home improvements she's done.  She is originally from San Francisco area, which is not far from my hometown, so we have that in common.  This lady has good taste, and that is apparent the minute you walk in.  whenever you buy something, you get what you pay for, as she has some really nice items.  In her kitchen section, there were some oval serving platters with blue flowers.  I looked on the bottom of the plate, and the collection was English Chippendale.  Are you familiar with that pattern?  I believe they were first made in 1935.  I bought one.  I have gotten to know a. since I moved here, and she's not just the shop owner, she is a friend.

I'm not big on buying shoes, but you need a good pair of boots when living up here, and there is really only a couple places to buy shoes here.  One place is a boutique on main street, but she tends to sell western boots.  No thank you.  So I ordered some classic brown boots, and they should be delivered this week.

Some more Fall color

The pioneer wagon on main street.  I wanted to get a picture before they decorate it for Christmas.

I went to the church, and talked with P, one of the workers there.  She opened up the church and gave me some Holy water, which was so nice of her.  While I was there on the grounds, I noticed the most radiant rose still blooming.

There was a pretty pink one too.

I know it's super early, but I can never resist these when I see them at the store.

Well, I thought espresso roast was my favorite, but my favorite still remains the French roast.  There's just something about it.

And a casual picture of my French Canadian mother with pigtails.

Isn't this a neat album? - I found it years ago, and I put all my old photos in here.

My last meal at McDonald's for awhile haha.  I'm really bummed out cause they are closing the drive-through up here.  But I've heard of a couple good eateries that might replace it.

~Nancy Bird Turner

Well, that's about it for this week.  The holiday season for me starts in November, so it should be fun to decorate soon.  Happy November days.

Ok, Sheri. You and I are basically the same person! As I read through your lovely post, I kept reading and seeing things I also do, have, or love! I love a cup of coffee with cookies, and I get that exact same box! I posted a Princess Sassy Pants image on my blog today, and I LOVE the Egg McMuffin! Why are they closing your drive-thru??? Your momma is beautiful! I love that photo. And I also begin our Holiday season as soon as the Halloween boxes are stored. So cheers, my friend!

Your mother is beautiful, classic looks with kind eyes.

The blue rose pattern is very pretty. Nice find. The story about the blue rose adds charm to the pattern.
This week the over night temperatures are forecast to be low enough for our first frost. Sweaters are ready!

I enjoyed that so much. 23 degrees is cold - today we are 75 tomorrow will be 45! hope it stays.
I do know Chippendale - the plate your purchased is beautiful.
Of course, Sassy Pants is right - you need boots there for your snow. I love the fall colors there - looks so peaceful. Then you still have roses - so pretty. Are those your cute white shoes?
I remember those cookies but can't remember the name of them. Maurice Lionell?
My favorite coffee is French Roast too.
Boy looking at your mother and seeing you and the girls that family resemblance is amazing - you have some very, very, very strong genes.
I have never heard of a McDonald's closing its drive through. The store is staying open?
Your coffee looked like some peppermint was put in.
Lovely post

Ah Sheri - what a wonderful visit. We are colder here too but not two sweaters cold as of yet. Our leaves are coming down fast with rain and wind. Glad to see that your trees are still showing lovely colors. Wish I had some of those delicious looking cookies and close enough to share that good coffee. Love that blue plate. I think I have remarked on the blue and white dishes from some of our past correspondence. My grandma had such a pretty pattern when I was growing up. It wasn't willow ware but it certainly made you think it was. Well friend, keep warm and safe and enjoy what remains of October. See you soon. Hugs!

Dearest Sheri,
Wish I still could have coffee...
But fall is all about making our home cozy and warm and dressing in boots and sweaters.
Enjoy and what a lovely photo of your Mama!

Mariette

We live in Philadelphia and as soon as the weather starts to dip into the 40's in the morning, we start thinking about taking off for our Florida condo for the winter. We do love the fall foliage and do try to wait until we get a glimpse of the leaves turning colors, the farms displaying their pumpkins, and the neighbors decorating with beautiful mums and Halloween accessories. I love your beautiful photos and the roses are exquisite. Enjoy your new platter- it's lovely..

Unbelievable that there are these gorgeous roses in such cold weather! We are still having Indian summer and using our air conditioning! But that is to change later this week. Your Mom is beautiful. Chippendale have to be the most famous dishes ever? But I thought it was very rare to find any. What a gorgeous platter!

Hi Sheri. That was a lovely post. Wowsers, it does get chilly there quite early. We have not dipped down into the 20s yet. The foliage is very pretty there, as it is here. That we definitely have in common in the places we live. Your Mama was beautiful, a living doll. So are you and your two girls and your granddaughters, too. Lots of beauties in your family. Loved the blue platter. It's so much fun to find treasures we love and then buy them, isn't it? Hope you have a lovely week. Hugs. Susan

That plate is especially beautiful, Sheri. What a wonderful find -- love the color and pattern. and your nature colors are lovely, too. I think I probably need to find some new boots, too. I might order online -- always tough with shoes but I hate shopping more! too bad about your drive through but are they keeping the inside open? That's always faster anyway!

Hi Sheri,
Brrrr that is cold. No frost here yet. Things still blooming, but the cold is coming I'm sure. We had a lot of wind the other day. It was miserable. Add that to the smoke from the controlled burn. I stayed inside.
Why are they closing McDs? That is sad.
My Grandma had a big collection of blue plates. I think she had your pattern. I have a few of her plates, but I'm more into green then blue. I love antiques too! I love homemade cookies! Happy November to you!!!!

Your mom is beautiful, Sheri.
I thought I could savor the pleasures of autumn in Greece, only to discover that the daytime temperatures were just like Malaysia's!
Love that blue platter.

Gorgeous photos as always 🌹

LOVE the blue and white plate! Anything English is so beautiful.
I'm in Texas and I don't like "cowboy boots", either! The Faal colors are glorious there...along with those cookies!
Your Mother was Gorgeous!! Look at her face! Just a beauty.
Nothing better than hot chocolate...
Happy week!

Oh my goodness that is cold! We have been unseasonably warm here in Massachusetts though this week the cold is back. We haven't had a frost yet but I live in a town on the Ocean. My daughter, who lives more inland than I do has had a frost already. It's okay though...I can wait. I know it's coming. Love the quote about a cute pair of boots. I always read the posts on minimal wardrobes and think those people don't live in New England. I need 5 pairs of shoes just to get the mail year round! I love Christmas as well! I have already pulled out the decorations but I won't start putting them out until Thanksgiving weekend.

I always love to visit here. So many enjoyable things to see and read. Your Mother is a beautiful lady. My husband’s mother’s father is French Canadian. The family moved down south in the late 1800s. Another wonderful post dear Sheri :) Happy November!

We're having a cold snap as well, but not as low as your temperatures! I love that beautiful platter, Sheri! So beautiful. I'm really a stickler for beautiful dishes and am partial to English china. Your cookies look delicious! Your Egg McMuffin looks good as well. Our daughter's favorite coffee is the same as yours. That beautiful wagon decorated for Autumn is charming. Hope you enjoy your new boots! Have a happy week, my friend.

Ever since I am unable to comment using my phone, I have to make the effort to come into my office to post comments and that's fine - that's how I post but I keep neglecting to comment on your blog and you are one of my most favorite! Hey us, Northern Californians have to stick together.

Okay so now for my comments: We had one morning where it was 39 degrees so Fall is here. But this past week we have warmed up nicely. I do have to make the time to change out my clothes - get out the sweaters etc. Rain is in the forecast. All the Trees look beautiful - my favorite time of the year for sure.
Oh man, the chocolate chip cookies are my favorites. They look good. Sounds like you may have an "in" with the shop owner on some good stuff. That is what is special living in a small town. You get to know the shopkeepers. The blue and white platter is very pretty. Your china cabinet looks similar to mine.
I'm a boot person - always have been. I own several pairs of boots in different colors and styles.
Isn't it something that our roses bloom in the Fall? My roses bloom best in the Fall, winter and spring. Summer they just wait...
Wow your Mom was very pretty. I totally see the family resemblance. I didn't know your Mom was a French Canadian. That is so cool. I'm surprised McDonalds is shutting down their drive-through. Maybe because it actually employs a real human and they are going more into automation. I know the ones we have down here, we still have the drive-thru but when you go inside, they have all the kiosks where you do your own ordering or you use the app. We use the drive-thru. It's a California thing!

I always look forward to your Monday posts and you always deliver with such a nice comfy post.

What a nice post. It puts me in the mood for Autumn and the holidays. I love your new plate. I have seen that pattern and may have a teacup with a similar pattern in a different color. New boots will be a treat. Cookies are always a treat. The roses at this time of year are always so special to find. And love the decorated cart. Now I want to also see it decorated for Christmas.

23F, if you get rain... it would be snow. Good thing you are buying winter boots. i love wearing boots, they must be comfy and practical for whatever I am doing.

So nice that you have settled into your home, so different from the Bay area.

Wishing you a lovely autumn and fun to hear about you framing my art.
