I Will Gaze Upon You

We have had lots of road work being done on the highway this month, leading into town, and it's been a bother having to sit in traffic for long periods at a time while cars are coming and going, not to mention the big logging trucks right in front of us, but the roads are looking much better, and it will be nice when it's all finished.

My sister-in-law's resting place is in Mount Shasta area, and they recently had her memorial up here.

As a remembrance of her, my other sister-in-law put together a package for me, and my brother-in-law came over last week and delivered it.  It was so carefully wrapped with such thoughtful gifts.  There was a strand of pink silk roses that they used at her service, a memorial card with a few words about her, a wind chime, and this dangling crystal pendant.

There was a wooden cut out on the wind chime with a dear saying....

I will gaze upon you,

From the sea of stars,

As I'll always be,

Your guiding star

Also, with the package, she sent some forget-me-nots to plant in a garden sometime.

I can just imagine a garden filled with forget-me-nots.

It was a thoughtful package, and filled with many wonderful goodies to remember my sister-in-law.

Through my dining room window....funny bird.

I finally found a tiny pumpkin at the store.

Mums have always reminded me of Fall, especially the golden, orange, and reddish ones.  When I was in school, they sold Mums during the football season, and anyone could buy one for that special person, and we would pin them on our dresses and blouses.  It was a great surprise when it was time for them to come around to the classrooms and deliver that Mum, and to see who it was from.  I was always fortunate to receive one or two during that time, thanks to my brother, good friends, and boyfriend.  ; )

And speaking of the football season, here's little Mia getting into the spirit at the football game.

I made some hot pastrami sandwiches....they were so delicious.

Francesca has been a good big sister to little Charlotte.

A weekend drive.  The road workers stop doing the maintenance on the weekends.

I cooked some shrimp with a little butter, and added some lemon juice and soul food seasoning.  Then, dipped them in a spicy sauce.

All of my socks are white.  I just bought a big bundle for the cold months coming up.  But I couldn't resist when I saw these.  Reminds me of the '60s.

No hay mejor cosa, que tener una familia, que no se olvida de nosotros.
Buena cosa es,la mejora de las carreteras. Cuando esté terminada y se vea lo bien que ha quedado, se olvidarán esas molestias.
Que tengas una buena semana.

Good afternoon.
Love your blog.
I love the white pumpkin and rose in the header.
I don't think or I missed or I read over the fact your SIL died. But how nice your other SIL brought you a little care package from the funeral. Likes like a crystal prism with the lights. Are you going to plant the Forget Me Nots?
Oh boy road closures drive me nut too.
That bird has to belong to the woodpecker family don't you think - I loved him.
I wondered why you had the name Charolette on the little pumpkin but I saw at the end that is the baby's name. So Francesca loves her new little sister.
Love your socks with the smiley face and the cows!
Never have seen soul food seasoning and you think I would here.
You are right - Life is sweet in a garden!

I love seeing all of your pictures and the little tid bits about them.
Mia and Charlotte are adorable.
Love the socks. I have some new cute socks coming in the mail that I ordered from Shein. Winter time is the only time I wear socks, and well, they have to be fun!

What cute socks, Sheri. I like white ones too, but wear black in Winter, white in Summer. What pretty Fall flowers contrasted with the orange pumpkin. I love to see your photos: is that bird a Woodpecker? He is so dramatic in his colour. Your remembrance gift is absolutely beautiful (I have never heard of anyone doing that, and it is wonderful). My daughter has a garden of Forget-me-nots, and it is my favourite place at her home. The crystal pendant is so special. You must have been very touched by her gift. Baby Charlotte is filling out alreaady, and what a Sweetie she is.

Nice memories and super photo of those football days. A sweet one of Mia getting into the spirit of things, and of Mel and Charlotte! The woodpecker, what a charmer he is. Great socks and cute strawberry cup. Thanks also for the road pictures, loved the cows and pumpkin art, including your own. Super post Sheri :)

I loved everything about this post - I especially found it touching, about your sister-in-law and the little gifts they gave you to remind you of her. What a thoughtful way to remember her.

Awesome photos. What camera do you have? We're in the market and need to determine what to get so we don't waste our money on garbage.

Baby Charlotte looks so much like her big sister. I can see it in the eyes. Such a beautiful family you have.

I am sorry for the loss of your sister-in-law. The package is a lovely gift to cherish.

The hot pastrami sandwiches sound good. It has been years since I've had one. The remind me of New York City.

Ah Sheri - your photos of autumn decorations are lovely. Your bird looks like our woody woodpeckers here. Beautiful. You always are enjoying the most delicious looking food. Makes me hungry for some of your wonderful dishes. The gift package to remind you of your sister-in-law must have meant so much. A patch of forget me knots in the spring will be beautiful. What a lovely remembrance. We gifted people seeds when my mother passed away as well. It's such a nice way to remember a loved ones. My mother was a big gardener so it seemed especially appropriate.
