An Unexpected Visit

I got an unexpected visit last week from my brother-in-law, who lives in Seattle.  He was up this way visiting some family, and stopped by for a short visit before heading back home.  I didn't know he was coming, and just showed up at my door.  It was a welcome visit, as I haven't seen him in about nine years.

Seattle, home of the original Starbucks!

The story of Starbuck's begins in 1971 along the cobblestone streets of Pike Place Market, which is historic in Seattle.  The girls took a trip there in 2011.

I made him a hot cup of coffee, and we had a nice visit catching up.  I had just gone to the store, so I had some Walkers shortbread cookies in the cupboard, which was a perfect treat for his Scottish heritage.  These cookies are so good, they melt in your mouth.

Richard has a wonderful talent and makes bows and arrows that are beautiful.  He carves them with special types of wood, and has been skillfully crafting them for many years.

I will always remember the framed picture of the brothers on the wall at my mother-in-law's home.  At one time, they were all fishermen in Alaska, and fished the great waters for King Crab.  My family used to get fresh crab from them every now and then, and it was very good.  It's one of my favorite pictures, and Richard is on the far left.

I was pleased that he came by to see me, and I've always wanted to visit the old and historic city of Seattle.  Maybe someday I'll make it there.  ; )

What a wonderful surprise! Wonder why Seattle is so famous for it's coffee places? I have heard it is a great place to live, our daughter-in-law used to live there.

I wish I'd bought some of those stars when they were half price after Christmas! I love them! What a wonderful treat, this surprise visit. Yes, greater distance and harder to see one another -- I'm so glad it worked out.

My husband used to live in Tacoma - just outside of Seattle. He still has family there. I've been up there a few times and went to visit the first and original Starbucks - long line. His brother told us not to bother to come to Seattle until things settle down. He lives in Seattle and has been considering a move due to the crime. It's a shame - we used to drive up and stay a couple of days and drive back. We would have fun all the way back down to Shasta. Same with Portland - which is within a day's drive; granted a LONG days drive. Portland used to be fun, too.

What a nice visit and fun to share coffee and cookies and catch up. I hope you get to travel there some time. I have so many places I want to go but we stay home more and more. Enjoy your week! Hope it's warming up!

Hello from the move survivor. I didn't know if I was going to make it or not. It was a very rough move - started with bad movers and then a then we have moved to a new place and it has a punch sheet a mile long - but we do love it.

Anyway I have never been to Seattle. I wanted to go for a long time - how is it now with the damage the riots have done?

It was sure nice to learn about Starbucks. I didn't know a lot of that.

So your husband had four brothers? Any sisters?

That bow and arrow was gorgeous.

Those Scottish cookies look good too - where did you get those?

I have missed you.

Dearest Sheri,
What a lovely—unexpected visit!
Walkers short bread is the BEST. Not that I can have it at present but the memories will last me forever.
Bows and arrows seem to be rather intricate to carve from special wood.
Fishing for King Crab in Alaska must have been a tough job and at the same time enjoyable for being out in nature.
Lovely photo of the brothers!
Hugs,
Mariette

Sherry, you had a very nice meeting. I love such meetings, they bring back pleasant memories of shared moments. The bows he makes are masterfully made! Few people do crafts and what he does is very nice!
I love all the biscuits from this company and I'm sure they were good company with the coffee! There is also a Starbucks in Bulgaria and I have tried their sweets and coffees.
