A Surprise At The Creek

Almost every time I go to the creek, I see something interesting.  And they usually come by the dozens.  Recently, I took a drive there with the intention of saying the Rosary while I was there, as it's a peaceful and restful place with no interruptions.  I thought I saw something black sitting on the grass next to the creek, and then they started coming.

One by one, these cattle slowly walked to the creek.

There was even a calf trying to keep up with the rest.

It was a surprise to see them, because they tend to graze at the cow farm that is about five minutes away, which you can see in the distance.  There were so many of them!

A couple of them got so close that I could almost reach out and touch their whorls of hair, which a cow has right between their eyes.

This yellow flowering plant graces all the fields around here this time of year.  I'm not sure what it is, so if anyone can identify it, I'd love to know.

My Rosary broke, so I've been wanting to get a new one.  I asked the Priest if he had any Rosaries that I could have, and when I got to the church, he had about five in his hand.  They were all plastic, except for one, which belonged to the Priest.  One of them was a unique green color that was pretty.  He said he wanted me to have his personal Rosary, which has black beads and is very nice.  I thought that was so special of him, and I will keep it forever.

It's always a pleasant time driving to the creek.

Oh that is such a touching story about the priest offering his own personal rosary....it looks very much like the one my mother had, Sheri! She would pray the rosary with me in Spanish while I was going off to sleep, every night.

Those cows. How adorable are they! That whorl between their eyes, SO CUTE!! And, I think that is Golden Rod, the yellow plant. We have a lot of that here!

Well beloved friend, may your Monday be peaceful.

What a special day down by the creek, Sheri! I would have been afraid to get so close to the cattle, though. They look like Black Angus. What a very special priest to offer his rosary to you, my friend.---So touching. I hope you have a lovely week!

I think that might be ragweed. We have lots of that and goldenrod too and I'm never sure what's what. I just know I have allergies at this time of year. The cows are neat to see. Enjoy your week!

Oh Sheri, what a priest you have! To offer his best for you. My priest chides me because I tend to mix priests up with saints, kind of edge them over there closer to the saints than to the common man! Did you notice something, all the BLACK cows coming over, like beads on the rosary he gave you! What pretty pictures. I love cows. I think they wanted some good creek water! I don't know what that scrubby yellow bush is, I'd almost say it's a sagebrush or rabbit brush, but those are here in the desert.

I love the last picture of the road. Beautiful. And the priest gave you his rosary - very nice. Also that cow looked a little mad at you - lol. How can they stand all those flies in their eyes. I think the yellow is ragweed!

What a wonderful gift to have these cows come to you!! And your priest...what a wonderful and special gift! I wish I knew what these pretty yellow flowers are. I think either wild mustard or goldenrod.

You gave the priest a wondeful opportunity to share.
I wonder if it is acceptable to make your own rosary?
Neat cattle photos. It amazes me that cattle and cows like to see people so much. They sometimes line along a fence to just stare at folks.

They were curious about you, I think. And maybe recognized a kind person. I have to admit that the pictures are enough to make me wish I were a vegetarian. We have daily visits from beautiful red deer who bring their young up too. Three with big antlers were here last night and tears came to my eyes just remembering that deer season has begun. I understand that it helps keep the numbers down but I could never bear to shoot one. It's hard enough to find one dead in the road. Anyway, I think your visit with the herd was a gift!

Cows are curious creatures! There were some that breached their fencing at the farm that adjoins the properties across the street a few years ago! What a surprise for us when we looked out our door and saw them enjoying the “grass on the other side of the fence!” Very warm gesture of your priest!

I think cows are so sweet! I'm not a vegetarian, but I do limit my beef consumption because I love cows so much. What a beautiful gift from your priest. I'm not Catholic, but my late mother-in-law was, and she cherished her rosary beads. They were with her all the time. Which makes me know that your priest really gave you a gift from the heart.
Blessings,
Patti

Dear Sheri, what beautiful black cattle, and they are so serene as they walk to their creek. When we drive in my father's countryside, there are a number of dairy farms with black cows, and I love to see them walking in a line to the milking sheds late in the afternoon. What a priceless gift of a Rosary from your Priest. You will treasure it always. Enjoy your beautiful home. x

Beautiful photos! That is a lovely story about the priest. My sister has a large collection of rosaries. Our middle daughter brought her one from Ireland in 2016. The cattle are such unique creatures too. Thanks for sharing them here. Have a wonderful rest of your week.
