My Dad's branch of service in the Armed Forces was..... the Marines. He went into the service at the very young age of 18.
He got married to my Mom before he went overseas.
She was relieved and thankful when he returned home.
There was a portrait that was painted of my Dad in his uniform. I'm not sure where it is now, maybe with my nephew. I remember it hanging over the fireplace in the house that I grew up in.
When my parents passed away, my middle brother made piles for each sibling of things that they gave them through the years and things he thought they should have. He was always so good and fair about that. My son got something that belonged to his Grandfather.....a ring he received when serving in the Marines.
My Dad and Father-in-law and brother-in-laws all returned home after the war. I'm just thinking about all those that didn't with caring thoughts today.

After my fiasco with Blogger losing its mind, I tried to piece the "Blogs I Follow" part back together - and I missed your blog somehow. I have missed so many of your wonderful posts! Well, something fun to look through on this Memorial Day. Your father was so handsome and your mother was downright glamourous. Look at her heels! I love family photos like that, it gives a window to their world before our part in their lives. It was so decent of your brother to divide up the family memorabilia fairly.
My dad was also a Marine. I love all your pictures. So thankful for all who served. Keeping all who served and those who didn't make it home in my thoughts and prayers always.

My dad was Navy. I have both a son and daughter that served in the Army. So thankful, they all came home. The ring is such a special treasure. A wonderful picture of your parents.

I'm so glad your father returned home after the war, Sheri! My Daddy was a Marine as well. My brother has his Marine ring. The photo of your parents is so charming and the portrait of your father is priceless! Remembering all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Your Mom and Dad look like movie stars, Sheri! I can totally see the family resemblance in you and your children and grandchildren. So wonderful that you have these photos and your son has his ring. My FIL and my two SIL's were in the Marines. My Dad was in what used to be called the Army/Airforce before they were separated into two branches. We are fortunate to have our soldiers returned and my heart just breaks for all those that didn't. Forever grateful for their sacrifice and always remember what they fought for. Sending hugs x K
What a beautiful couple your mom and dad made. My dad was in the Navy, 33 yrs. He was stationed in Port Hueneme Calif, but in Guam when I was born. Shortly after we moved to Coronado. Then back to the south, Kentucky. My son was stationed at the same base in San Diego. That is how he ended up in Calif. My dad came home safe and sound also, so many dads did not. He never talked about it either.

Sheri your parents were so handsome and beautiful. I adore seeing those old photos that take us back to what was considered a sweeter time in life. (Not sure it was but it seemed to be).
The photo of the forest made me think of the battles that took place overseas. My grandfather was wounded in Germany during World War I and hubby's father was involved in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II and my dad served during the Korean conflict. Memorial Day should always be a time to reflect of those who served in the past as well as the present. God bless them each and you as well for paying such a lovely tribute in your post. Hugs!

What beautiful photos of your parents. Your mom was a classic beauty! That ring is definitely a family treasure. My Dad was drafted into the Army right out of high school. He was partially blind, so he shuffled paperwork mostly.

I've often thought about how blessed we are, that our fathers and grandfathers survived all the wars they fought - and the many who did not.
