Springtime In The Mountains

I hope you had a nice Mother's Day.  I took a walk with my son in my new Skechers and had lunch together, and it was a pleasant day.  I was outside doing yard work last week, and my neighbor, Lisa, called out and said she would help me rake up the pile of leaves in the front of my house and the side area by the mailboxes.  I said, "yes, thank you."  So, on Friday, I saw her and her husband out there working away.  He has a small machine which makes it easier to pick up.   I told her I'd be out there Sat. to clean the other side.  I thought that was so nice of her to offer like that.  There are lots of dandelions right now in my front yard.  I've been pulling the small ones and tossing them, and picking the ones with the long stems and putting them in water on my front porch to add some color.  Some people call them weeds, but I call them pretty yellow flowers.  ; )  We had a fire recently back in the woods, and it was pretty close to the house.  It was smoky all around and there was a power outage.  This always scares me, cause they can get out of control, but thankfully the fire station is right down the road, and they got here quickly and took care of it.  I've been seeing lots of Quails this Spring right in my front yard, and they visit often.  California's state bird is the Quail.  I've been doing many outside and inside chores since I moved to the mountains, and taking care of much paperwork, so one day I said, "enough!" and drove to the creek.  When I got there, hundreds of birds started to show up.  It was a wonderful sight.  Then, in the distance, there was one big bird sitting alone on a branch, and it was such a surprise to see an Eagle, cause I've never seen one in the wild before.   My friend, Suzanne, sent me a beautiful card for Mother's Day.  I thought it was so sweet of her.  And the girls got me lots of goodies that I'll share later.  There's no See's here in the mountains, and you have to drive an hour to get it, so I savored every piece haha.  Isn't May a grand month?

Francesca's taking a picture with her play doh cut-out camera on the pier.  Oh, Francesca, are you going to like taking pictures just like grandma?  ; )

What nice neighbors you have there. Sometimes it feels like raking leaves is a never ending job. With the wind blowing here it has again spread leaves around. More raking here in the near future. I am glad you had a nice Mothers Day! I did too!

I hope you had a nice Mother's Day too - sounds like you did. Those mountains still have snow on them - do they keep that all year round? What nice neighbors you have girl. The birds are just beautiful! I love eagles so much too. When I went to Alaska - I saw them there and they were so cool. Glad you enjoyed the candies! Love, sandie

Granddaughter and her husband just returned from Colorado and are thrilled with all the wild life, trails to hike and food. They want to take the boys with them next time. Mountians are
beautiful, but I yearn for the beach. I lived in Alaska many years ago. You do have the birds!

Your Mother's Day sounds perfect! Am so glad to hear you have such nice neighbors. I love all pretty weed flowers and mow around them in my yard. I know the neighbors probably think I'm a nut case lol. Gorgeous photos Sheri, I'm so glad you were able to see an eagle in person, they are amazing! Have a fantastic week my friend. XO

Until I saw them in person, I didn't know how big eagles really are. They are as big as a man from the waist up! And their talons are HUGE! Did the smaller birds "mob" the eagle? That is also a sight to see. How scary that there was a fire so close. That is what scares me about rural living in many areas. Those wildfires. How wonderful to get to walk and dine with your son! That is a great Mother's Day gift!

WOW...never seen an eagle in the wild. BEAUTIFUL for sure. Loving the woodpecker also. Been trying to get some pics of birds from the deck but they are not as friendly as they were at the other house. I think maybe it was cause they felt safer in the tree next to the deck and here they are out in the open on the feeder. Course it don't help that the furs (cats) tend to scare them off also. Wow....sorry about the fire. My older brother lives out near the lake, down from him there are probably five to six houses on his side of the road before you hit the lake. The phone company was out down at the end fixing lines and stuff (yrs ago). Ray got home just in time to see his OLD barn and an original OLD cabin go up in flames at the back of his property. One of the workers had tossed a cig. on the ground. Luck would have it that it did not burn any homes but there went a barn and cabin about 100 to 150 yr old. Shame. Take care and enjoy your new adventures.

I loved what you said about the dandelion.
I will pray for rain for California. No more fires!!!!!!
I loved your photos. The dandelion you are holding with the blue jean back ground is really unique.

Oh how cute is that little cut-out camera, Sheri! LOL

Hello my friend.

I'm glad to see that you see dandelions are flowers and not weeds, like I do.

Spring is here, finally, for both you and me. The various shades of pink here in the crabapple trees are enchanting and have taken my breath away as Ruben and I have been taking some driving tours in the last few days.

Enjoy every moment of gardening, weeding, sightseeing and a belated Happy Mother's Day to you!

What beautiful photos with the birds! Lovely sight to see! :)

I like the dandelions too - my kids often pick them for me when we are on our walks so I think they are pretty yellow flowers too! Even though I don't want them in my garden, haha!

Hope you are having a good day :) It's a stormy one here!

How exciting to see an eagle flying about, and what great photos you took Sheri. I love the look of the mountains too. Dandelions are pretty flowers - and I never see them these days, although they bring back memories of childhood. Such a cheerful yellow. The other day I bought a packet of seed of those California poppies - we will see how I get on with growing them :)
I bet you had the greatest Mother's Day. Mine was pretty good too... xxx

Sounds like a nice life, except for the fire that is. But it was tended to and all worked out. I love dandelions too. They say they grow where people need their medicine. Such a good food too. Have to admire how well they survive.

lovely bird sightings. Sometimes we just have to get out and go.

So glad they got the fire taken care of quickly! Hope you get to see eagles more often...if I seen a bunch every day, it would still be a thrill...love the photo of the quail. And shot of the poppies is totally wonderful!

I love that you put the dandelions in water to enjoy for awhile. I keep telling my husband I will put the dandelions in our salad, but he doesn't like that idea.
I absolutely love California quail, poppies, and even your eagle sightings. How wonderful.
So glad your neighbors are helping you in your yard. What special neighbors to have the fortune to live next to.
