When The Snow Falls

When I looked outside one morning last week, I couldn't believe my eyes.  I walked out the front door, and to my surprise, it was a winter wonderland.  The snow was beautiful.  It covered my car, and I'm sure the neighbors laughed at me when they saw me scraping off the snow with my hands until we got a snow shovel.  I am learning many things about mountain life - making sure there is enough Antifreeze in the car, buying an ice scraper for the car windows, and stocking up on groceries before the first snowfall.  It's not easy getting out with this much snow, so you have to be prepared.  They use the bird houses here to cover the pipes so they don't freeze.  My neighbor told me that when the snow falls, everything is still.   Everything becomes quiet all around for a little while.

This will tell you how much snow we got!

I call her my Christmas fairy, but I think I'll keep her out for awhile, as she looks like a snow fairy, doesn't she?

It's cold outside, but it's cozy inside.   And it's a hot chocolate kind of day.

The sun is coming out, and my neighbor's dog barks from a distance.  He's a rescue dog, and he was mistreated before my neighbors took him in.  They say he's the most gentle dog.

My brother had the living room walls painted in a pewter color, and it looks really nice.

The Gift by Mary Oliver

Be still, my soul, and steadfast.
Earth and heaven both are still watching
though time is draining from the clock
and your walk, that was confident and quick,
has become slow.

So, be slow if you must, but let
the heart still play its true part.
Love still as once you loved, deeply
and without patience. Let God and the world
know you are grateful. That the gift has been given.

The snow looks very pretty, but cold(-: I think the hot chocolate sounds perfect for a snowy day! Another storm has arrived here and we are expecting a lot of rain. I will need to get my umbrella out again. Enjoy your week!

That big puppy looks adorable and terrifying at the same time. Hmm...I might look that way myself. I shouldn't judge. 😂

OH MY GOSH....Sheri, that is more snow then we ever see in Nashville TN. Woke to flurries again today. Mother Nature is a terrible tease. Did you not take a yard stick out and measure that snow? First thing I would have done. Where is it you are living in Northern Calif? Looks so beautiful. I remember in 2018 when I drove up to Palomar Mountain Calif...I started up the hill thinking that they next time Brit (daughter in law) was in TN we would need to take her up to the Smokies and show her mountains....then I went up and up and realized that the Smokies had nothing on Calif mountains! lol....beautiful, steep and so diff then ours. Love your place. Love the mts. and the snow.

I love your post. I love the snow. The trees lined with snow. I guess you like cold and snow. Not me. Ah the Mtn. Life. You are learning a lot. Antifreeze - groceries- and things like that.
I like your snow angel and purple girl with red hair.
Love hot chocolate.
I am so glad you are happy there.

That is a LOT of snow! Yes, I’d call that a lovely snow angel! We had a slight covering of snow this morning; has almost all disappeared at this point. Hot chocolate sounds perfect on a day like this....I put a scoop of ice cream in mine! Cooled the chocolate enough that I didn’t burn my mouth while drinking it, and warmed the ice cream enough that I wasn’t made cold by eating it.:-)

"The GIft" is perfect -- and this post is a gift. It's beautiful -- it looks like Narnia. Your neighbor is right about how still it is when it snows. Why is that? But it's true. Yes, it's a whole different thing, one climate to another but you've got this!

We only got 5 inches at our place here in Shasta County - but a friend of ours who is about 11 miles from us by Shasta Lake got 2 feet!

The heavy wet snow smashed all my daffodils that had already bloomed.

Your mountain paradise looks lovely.

I wondered if you would get snow when you moved to your new home. Wow! You certainly did. I love the silence when it snows.
Your snow fairy is so sweet. Love the pewter paint too. And of course I love the poem.

Dearest Sheri, as a long-time snow dweller, I can tell you that snow is a joy. Depending on the year and how much snow accumulates, for some people, it can "get old." However......what keeps us all young is to see the wonder of it all, even in its over-stayed welcomed state. Ice crystals forming, icicles hanging like winter chandeliers, learning to accept the slow-pace while we wait for the energy of spring, it's all good. It's your home now.

Hello Dear Sheri....You got a lot of snow! I had to chuckle. Snow is a very familiar scene to me. Last night we got probably more than a foot of it! So much snow around here that we don't know what to do with it. hahahaha Love your snow fairy and the other little sweetheart, too. It seems very peaceful where you are, Sheri. So happy for you. That is quite a change from Southern California. Hugs to you. Susan

Hello, Sheri, Your snow is magical, but I know how difficult it can make life sometimes! Love your beautiful dolls - they do have unique personalities, don't they? I am sorry I have not visited in so long - I've been in a little funk :( I am starting to feel a little better now. I love rescue dogs - they are so sweet and grateful. Your little neighborhood looks very nice with all the tall trees and sweet little fences. Your gray walls are so soft and pretty and the perfect backdrop for your beautiful things. I love the painting :) Hope you are staying cozy and warm. Sending hugs xo Karen

So beautiful. Looks like the kind of snow I woke up to today.
Big changes for you. I hope you love all the seasons with the magical details they bring. Nice that the neighbors are giving you info on how to exist with snow. Hands get cold fast when using them to remove snow. For a lot of things I like using a broom unless it gets to deep. Seems easier on my body than shoveling. Though this morning a shovel was necessary.

You have such a lovely snowfall, Sheri! I would absolutely be in heaven to look out my door and see that. Your new home is in a beautiful setting, love your fence. Also your new neighbor's dog. I am so happy for you that you're in a place that you love, that seems like the home you were needing. I hope you're feeling better after having a pulled muscle from all the unpacking.

I love snow! Our Rocky Mountains had two feet of snow this weekend, but I missed the front range of Colorado, where I live, It was actually warm in the mid-'60s for a few days. We hardly ever get rain so snow is needed all winter to fill our reservoirs in Spring when it all melts. Enjoy your winter wonderland!

Oh, that snow! I love the hush after a snowfall like that. Just so wonderful to experience.

Beautiful snow pics! It looks like a post card to me. I've never seen snow like that in my life as things like that don't happen down south!

Hi. Sheri, oh the snow photos are lovely. The few big snowfalls here in GA were always quiet. Looks like you have a peaceful new place to call home. I love the pewter walls. Sometimes rescue dogs are the most gentle. I wish you so much happiness in your new home. Mildred
