Run With The Wolves

I took a walk in the woods the other day, and when I say in the woods, I mean my neighborhood because my neighborhood IS the woods.  I asked my son to go along with me because there is a dog that roams around, and my neighbor said he's not the friendliest dog.

He said that the neighbors have all complained about the dog because he's gotten into fights with other pets, but to my knowledge, has never hurt any people.  Well, as it turns out, my son says he's not that bad and has even come close enough to petting it.  There are all kinds of animals in the mountains, so I can either be fearful or run with the wolves and embrace what comes along.  So, that's what I'm trying to do.  But I'm always cautious, that's just my nature.  Here are a few pictures of the things I saw on my pleasant walk last weekend.

I liked this cross wreath.  It is the entrance to a nail salon that is close by, and I'm surprised it's still open.

My neighbor, Lisa, has this sign in her back yard.

A pretty tree with some kind of moss growing on it.

There are trees all around me.

When I first got here, these mats were placed on the front and back porch.  My brother got them, and I thought they were perfect.

Time to put on the coffee.....and I got this cup in the mail from Mia for Valentine's Day.  It's from my favorite shop, Anthropologie.  Oh, I miss shopping there.  The inside has the word, daisy.  It's so cute, I love it.

Here's a rainbow from Francesca's bedroom to brighten your day.  It's from me to you, and I hope you have a beautiful week.

Sheri such lovely photos friend...it looks like you are without snow. We are getting bunches and bunches. Can I send you some? :)! Keep safe - having lived in the woods and around much wildlife have not feared them because actually they are truly more afraid of us than we are of them. Of course there are exceptions such as mothers protecting their young or if you stumble into their place or den. Take care friend and enjoy your walks. Thank you for the rainbow...I sure needed to see it today. Hugs!

perfect doormats. what a lovely, scenic walk. the dog looks a bit fierce to me. i'd use caution for sure. your new mug is delightful. i love the company too. such interesting things. i'm ordering the Anthropologie ceramic teaspoons. Has your snow all melted??? I thought I saw some in one of your other posts? or am I mistaken? expecting 14 inches here in next couple days. it's beautiful to look at and your mountain top is the perfect setting. Take care. Stay safe.

I have never seen a cross wreath - very pretty. I wonder how Covid is in your area.
That dog looked scary to me. Can you just for protection carry a walking stick - a lot of people do that.
I wonder what that moss was growing out of the tree.
I also like that tea cup and mats.
You have a lovely home!
Happy Valentine's Day!

What lovely woods to walk in. I grew up in heavily pined woods. There is always so much to see in that habitat. As to the dog, I always feel bad for them when they are allowed to roam like that. When I walk, I use a hiking stick for necessity, but it can also keep animals at bay and block them. Once I was able to use it to pin down a trailing leash on a naughty shih-zu determined to run down the street!

Beautiful photos Sheri. Your area remind me of north central Florida where I used to live, there was nothing but woods all around me.

I'm so happy to hear you have a lovely place to walk, Sheri. I'm also glad to know you are careful when venturing in a new place. I love the wooded area you have. And that lovely cross wreath is stunning. Such a pretty welcoming piece. It looks like it is made of fresh materials. So lovely. Thanks for the rainbow. We are having light rain this afternoon after a icy, snowy weekend.

Hi sweet Sheri, I have not been to visit for awhile. So sorry. Ted's health has taken over . He is still not home...at his son's house getting PT and nurse visits, to be able to come home to me. I like to be able to trust dogs. Never reach with an open hand , if they come up to sni8ff, you can offer the back of your hand with your fingers curled..so they can't bite them. I read about the note from your mother that fell from a book. It just squeezed my heart. Your mother loved you . Please take care and stay safe, wishing you a good life. Blessings , xoxo, love you, Susie

Being alert when walking in the woods is always a good idea. We have a mountain lion in the neighborhood (the wood starts right across my home) that we sometimes hear in the night as well as foxes and coyotes. When I hike in our gorgeous nature I'm always alert of my surroundings. What I fear far more than cougars and bobcats are rattlers.

Hello, Dear Sheri. Lovely post, as always. Thanks for all your visits to Writing Straight from the Heart and your comments, too. They are so appreciated. I think you are very much enjoying your new home and surroundings. I would be VERY scared of the dog. I am scared of dogs who are tame. That fellow looks a bit on the wild side. I hope you have a wonderful, peaceful, and super good week, my friend. Hugs. Susan

Hello Sheri,
Thank you for the rainbow, I needed to see that today. Nothing is going right at the moment. Our heat is out!!! It was -30 this morning. Thank goodness the heating and cooling guys are hear as I type this.

I am cautious around dogs as well. I was attacked when I was a young girl by a dog. It pushed me off my bike and I landed in the ditch. It started to jump on me. Luck for me, the owner of the dog was in the house and saw everything, she helped me get back on my bike. I peddled for my grandma's house so fast and was crying so hard. I was all full of mud. My grandma helped me clean me up, my new little purse and my bike.
Thank you for letting me share this with you my friend. Love, Carla

Hello dear Sheri! I have not had any internet since last Wednesday so I'm finally here. So glad to see you are getting to know your neighborhood...now we can truly ask you, "Hey Sheri, how are things going in your neck of the 'woods?"

Love your mat at the front and back door.
That mug is definitely a cutie.
My favorite picture is on your walk through the woods. I love roads traveling through the trees.
It's always good to be cautious around animals you don't know yet.

How beautiful are the woods and the cross/wreath. The dog looks a bit scary to me, and I would just be cautious with it. I have been attacked twice by off-leash dogs on my daily walk, not badly, but it does shake you up. Thank you for a rainbow, always so pretty and cheerful. Your cup and the mats are lovely, and I am sure you have made a beautiful home for yourself.

Oh, Sheri, it looks like you have a lovely place to take walks, but having lived 'in the woods' for 40 years, I understand why you are cautious. The doggie looks more scared than anything - maybe some doggie biscuits would win him over - but thrown on the ground....:) Love your mats and pretty mug. It's those sweet things that make a house a home. Hugs xo K

Mace, you need a thing of mace to carry with you on those walks. I carry one in my purse but never had to use. Course I don't go walking in the woods. Looks like you have settled in so nicely. Its also amazing that you can stay in touch with your girls and the little ones. I remember the time before cells that it was not possible.

Dear Sheri,
First, thank you for wandering over and leaving such a thoughtful comment.
I am so happy you still have the drawing and honored that you plan on hanging it your new home.
Your photos are just beautiful, I love all the trees in the woods. Not quite sure what would be out there, and afraid I would be more timid, but I am happy you are exploring.
Take care and I must go catch up and read the older posts.
Blessings,
Penny
