A Very Peculiar Tree

There is a tree at one of the parks nearby that amazes me every time I see it.  The way that it has grown through the years is very strange, to say the least.  I've shared it with you before, but always wonder, how does a tree form and shape this way over time?  Here are a few pictures of it.

You saw Francesca last week, and just wanted to show you precious Mia.  She's already six months and rolling over, sits up, and trying to talk.  Nel said that she is babbling a lot, giggling, and even laughing.

Thought I'd put this out now that I have granddaughters.  Jess knows how much I love figurines, so she brought it home for me after one of her Disney adventures many years ago.

We are still having lots of rain, and California always welcomes rain, as we've had droughts in past years.

I have been putting fruit and nuts in my oatmeal, and it's so good.  My mom used to make us kids oatmeal all the time, and I think that's why I still like it so much.  It's nice on these cold days.

Because of all the rain,
I think we'll have a glorious Spring.

Happy March!

~Sheri

I am glad you got rain to keep those wildfires away. Mia is a sweetheart. She has grown since the last photo. Look at her sitting and playing and laughing. So pretty. What fun!

Hi

Those growths on the side of the tree are burls, I'm not sure why they grow like that but Native American's and early settlers used to cut those off and carve them into bowls. The ring pattern in the growths make a very beautiful design in the old dough bowls. There is a large Elm tree near my house that is very old and covered with those burls. unfortunately developers have bought the lot that it is on and I am terrified that they will destroy it. We've had more than our share of rain here in Eastern NC and it looks like March rolled in very much like the lion so I'm hoping for some warm spring days soon.

Take care,

Constance

Lovely photos, Sheri. Don't you want to squeeze that little Mia? Adorable. And your trees are magnficent. I love interesting looking trees and in fact just came from Jenny Woolf English Travel Writer where she had done a forest walk. Now yours! Fascinating.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Dear Sheri, Mia is just a beautiful baby. Such pretty eyes and the sweetest photos. Love the pics of the tree. I call that a Halloween tree! Looks like something you would see on a Halloween card! lol
We often have oatmeal and fruit/nuts for supper. Very warm and comforting. I'm thankful for your rain and cannot wait to see your spring photos from around your neighborhood. xo

Mia is just the cutest and happiest little girl! I know she is a joy to you all. That tree is amazing...might be scary late at night. I see all kinds of faces...and twisty arms to reach out at you! lol And it's so funny that you would show the goodies to put in oatmeal. I've been thinking about finding something like that. I put real fruit in my oatmeal but when we travel and stay at the Hampton Inn they have something like this. Now I know what it's called! Hugs!

Francesca and Mia are BOTH just precious. You are so blessed. We are having a ton of rain as well. Frankly I have had enough. I just love trees and I love the tree in your photo - what do you see - a ram or a lion? It is huge and probably pretty old. I also love oatmeal too - we have gotten into steel cut oats. We are having spring as I write, but today is cold - I am not sure what will happen to the flowers now. Happy March to you too. sandie

Sheri, Oh I know you want to squeeze that little pink bundle of sweetness. Mia is adorable. See how quickly time flies. I love your figurine. So pretty and special.
That spot on the tree is a burl, caused by an injury or fungus. Those spots are used in wood turning and such and are worth big money , sometimes. The whole picture of the tree is wonderful. I love it. Hope the rain helps your area. Blessings to you dear friend, love you, xoxo, Susie

Happy March to you, dear Sheri! Darling little Mia is so cute in the photos. She looks so happy and contented. I so enjoyed seeing the lovely photos of the beautiful tree and seeing its lovely structure. Without leaves trees have a special beauty. I'm guessing the funny growth pattern on the tree formed after a limb fell and it was trying to heal itself. Thank you for sharing all of this beauty. xo

Good morning dearest Sheri!

I keep seeing signs of spring on Instagram, and now here. We are SO far away from it but we'll get there.....I hope!

Your dearest Mia is precious, and that tree is a wonder, indeed. Keep on wondering, wandering, being YOU.

Dear Sheri...Oh, those two granddaughters of yours are darling doll babies. Oh my heart! The tree is sad-looking to me....like it is some kind of terrible pain. I heard California is getting tons of rain. That is quite a change from the days of drought. Sheri, your photos are just wonderful. Thanks for all your visits and comments on my blog. Always love to hear from you, my dear, kindred spirit. Hugs, Susan

Hi Sheri! Such a sweetie! :) I can't believe my daughter use to be that small. Where does the time go... I hope you do have a wonderful spring after all the rain you are having. I have a theory about the knob on the tree...I have two trees that unfortunately need to be taken down. One of the trees has a 'V' and the branches are falling away from each other creating a crack at the 'V' where the two branches meet in the trunk. (I hope that made some sense.) Right below the crack is a knob, although smaller that your tree's knob. The one tree guy told me that water is seeping into the crack and creating the knob. So maybe the tree in your pictures has a crack and water is pooling in it's knob? Who knows. :) It is a wonderful tree and I bet it looks amazing when it is full of leaves too. Have a great day! Michelle

I love your pics of the rain.
Takes me back to my childhood days,
when it was raining my Mom would cook chocolate porridge
for the family to keep us warm. Oh yeah, and that tree
really looks interesting and it did not escape your eye
for detail and beauty, yes I find that tree beautiful,
it has a dark look but I find beauty in it.
Mia looks so big now, and very pretty.

Have a lovely day Sheri ♥

HAHA....not sure what part of Calif you are in but I know in Southern Calif you have ....ONE SEASON! haha...Where here in TN we have all four although summer and winter last the longest, spring is a passing thing as it comes and goes really fast, same with my fave season, fall. I remember several years ago my son told me that he missed fall living in Calif. So when fall came I collected all colors of all kinds of trees. I put them in an 8x10 kraft env and mailed it to him. He had no clue I sent a package so when he got it his first thought was what did mom send, he opened it, read the note about sending him fall. He ran in the house, called Britney from the kitchen and proceeded to shake the leaves out all over the living room floor saying, "look Britney, its fall"! Love your sweet pics of Baby Mia. She is growing so fast. As for the tree, oh my, I love it. It has grown so strangely but has its own amazing look. Thanks for sharing.

What a darling! The baby girl! The tree is magnificent! It's been a long, wet winter here. I know Spring will be wet too, but at least it will not be Winter Wet! I enjoyed your photos, especially eat droplet of rain. Beautiful!

Mia is adorable, what a little sweetheart, decked out in my favourite pink colours. She makes me smile! I remember that tree, and it sure looks like a funny face. The photos of the branches are beautiful, it is stunning. Is it an oak tree? We have a funny tree here in our garden - it is a giant fig tree which has become enveloped by another big tree, a lilypilly. Goodness knows what sort of giant they will become! Have a great weekend dear Sheri.

I just know you will indeed have a glorious spring with all the rain.
What beautiful grand daughters you have.
Your pictures of that tree are quite wonderful. That is an amazing tree, it reminds me a little of the tree in my backyard. However, my tree doesn't have that wild growth that looks like a face to me on it.
Your first picture made me think of a wild monster face on the side of the tree.
