Wide Open Spaces

I took a drive in the country a couple weeks ago.  It was my son's birthday, and I wanted to get him a special treat.  There is a little bakery along the country roads with the most amazing desserts.  I got him a piece of chocolate cheesecake.  On the drive there, I noticed many things, like charming street signs with unusual names.

I usually stop here and rest along the way, and I notice the grass with each season.  It's so dry now.  The summers here are hot and dry, and this is when the wild fires mostly take place.  Please say a prayer for the fires going on in California right now.  It's about three hours from me, but still scary.

Cobwebs often accompany the flowers in the country.

What's this I see?

Even the weeds are pretty in the country.

I wanted to go inside this vintage shop, but it was closed, as I arrived very early in the morning.

The nursery

Oh, I love these old mailboxes.

Can you see why I take a drive just to get one of these goodies?

There is goodness to be found out in the country, if only we look closely.

She needs wide open spaces.

Sheri, You have been in my thoughts and prayers, all in your state. So scary with the fires and dryness. You will have to go back to that cute shop one day. Happy birthday to your son. Oh yes, that is a wonderful treat for a birthday, or any day. Yum. Please be safe my friend. Blessings to you, love, xoxo, Susie

Good morning, Sheri. I enjoyed the ride with you. I sure would have loved all the sweets if I could eat them. I am low carb and don't eat many.
I would like to go in the antique store too!

I love your beautiful photo of yourself! (But weren't you supposed to show us another one too? !)

Happy birthday to your son, Sheri! And those desserts look very tasty.

The grass does look dry, I hope everyone is very careful. Praying for rain and a stop to these fires.

That's a gorgeous gate to the nursery! Have you been there?

Thinking of you and that sweet baby soon to appear,
Dewena

It's so good to hear from you, Sheri. I love your photos of your ride in the country! Any of that cheesecake left? ha ha You will have to go back and visit the Vintage Shoppe. I have been praying for all those affected by the wildfires. Have a beautiful day.

Beautiful Sheri, oh how refreshing is your country drive to me. As I read your sweet and honest prose, and as I scrolled down to see this HORSE RUMP, I just SQUEALED in delight. How I love a horse rump.....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have such a beautiful feel to your words and photos. You have captured the bittersweet routine of life here from summer fresh to late summer/early fall deterioration. But it's all a part of life. However, at the end of every road, there is something sweet, whether it's a carefully chosen chocolate sweet for a loved one, or a promise from God above. Love to you dear and kind friend.

Well hello country Gypsy! It's so sad to see Cali on fire. I found my wide open spaces and it's pretty beautiful out here in the country, I need to have my camera with me to do some photography to share. I just discovered my new downtown and it has tons of antique shops, which were also closed.. they open Wednesday's as the beginning of the week...not Mondays. Now I know. I hope you and your son had an awesome Birthday.

I'm too far behind for words. One day I will stupble on the post where you tell me Nel had her baby. Has she? I'm hoping to catch up over the next few days. It'll be busy while Rick's here but then some time alone and that should be productive. Lonely but productive!

What a great road trip you enjoyed. SO pretty and so fun!

Those are pretty cool street signs!
We did get a lot of smoke from the wildfires in Lake and Mendocino Counties and they were terrible reminders of the firestorm from last October that destroyed so many neighborhoods in my town. I had my evacuation box ready to go again...

I really like this song, but my favorite by them is Godspeed
