A Weekend To Remember

Thank you all for the birthday wishes.  I appreciate it so much.  We had a busy weekend driving to So Cal for my birthday and Nel's graduation ceremony.  It was a fun filled trip with lots of happenings.  I can always tell we're getting close to So Cal by their tall palm trees.

We went to a charming town for my birthday and ate dinner at an Italian restaurant with pictures of Italy adorning the walls.   As I was coming out of the bathroom during dinner, you'll never guess what song they were playing......Sherry Baby!  I was thrilled! (and no, my kids didn't request it; that's why it was so wonderful).  Nel gave me a nice gift card to Macy's.  Jess knows I love children's books, so she bought me What a Wonderful World book, illustrated by Tim Hopgood.

The ceremony was so nice.   If you've ever heard of the PhD robes, they are very full and heavy with their big floppy hats.  I was filled with awe when I saw Nel receiving her degree.

I noticed a red rose in the distance, and had to take a picture of her with it.

Jess made this hilarious sign, and when Nel was walking down the aisle, she saw Jess waving this sign and couldn't help but crack up.

On the way home we stopped at the delicious Pea Soup Andersen's for their famous split pea soup.

Me and Jess browsed through the gift shop, and I bought her a tea cup ornament and some blackberry jam.

On the top of the door was this sign as we were leaving the gift shop.

Thank you for sharing Nel's exciting day with us.   You are always with me in spirit.......always.

That was a big event, your birthday and your daughter's PhD ceremony! She is a lovely woman.

That was pretty cool having your song greet you, and looking up to see for the second time that it truly is a wonderful world.

And I've written down the name of the book. Must get one for Nora!

Those palm trees were gorgeous and I love pea soup. I think I'm going to have to try to find a recipe for it because I haven't had it in years. Have a lovely rest of the week... :)

What a fun trip. We used to stop at Pea Soup Anderson's when we lived in CA - our kids just loved it - me too. And what a darling children's book. I just recently got copies of Brambly Hedge books - they are such fun. They were a birthday gift from our son and his wife - I received five of them - one for each season - and two others.

Pea Soup Andersons?! I lived right down the street for a few years and before that I lived in Santa Ynez. I can't remember if I told you that. I used to know the head chef there.

Congratulations to Nel :)
