We drove to my hometown to attend the fundraiser dinner that they have every year. This was the 35th dinner, so it was a special one. Also, to celebrate my birthday, which is actually in May. My son drove with me, and let me tell you, I'm grateful for that, cause I'm just not good at navigating the roads myself. This will be a long post, just to let you know, so get a cup of coffee🍵and join me as we take a little trip to my hometown. Our first stop was Starbuck's, of course. We left very early, and we wanted coffee and pastries for the road. It's only about 50 minutes down the mountain.
We made it to my hometown, and we were hungry, so our first stop was at our favorite Mexican eatery. Jess' family met us there, and I was so pleased that my brother showed up as well. We all loved visiting with him. After, we headed over to Kohl's to do some shopping; Jess needed to get a few things. That night, we met at the pizza place. Since it was Friday, and no meat, we ordered a huge veggie pizza. It was so delicious. Jess was getting ready to take my picture, and I had a piece of food in my teeth, so I was trying to get it out, and I guess I made a face, and Francesca started laughing, and her laugh is so contagious that I started laughing, then she laughed even louder, and we both couldn't stop laughing. You had to be there. ; )
Now, I always live in the present, but I also appreciate and cherish the dear ones who have left us. They are not remembered as often as they should be - I am reminded that my children and grandchildren also came from them. So, the next morning, me and my son visited the cemetery to see my mom and dad. I used to always put flowers on their site when I lived there, and wondered if there would be any on my visit. I was so surprised to find beautiful silk roses on their site, and found out later that my youngest brother put them on there. They light up at night. It's good of him to keep that area nice with flowers. There were so many birds fluttering about, it was very peaceful.
We drove over to the park, and I noticed the enchanting tree was still standing. Do you see the pig face on it? I used to often come to this park, coffee in hand, just to think, pray, and reflect. I think it's my favorite park in town.
In another area of town, there were some red flowers that were unusually lovely. I kept taking pictures, they were that pretty. Not sure what they are; maybe a small bottlebrush flower in a crimson color? A red-winged blackbird stopped by and said hello too.
Pool time for the kids! Little Charlotte also dipped her toes in the pool. They had a lot of fun swimming, and are learning a few techniques in the water that will last a lifetime. Uncle B. surprised them with donuts and brought them back to enjoy after swimming.
Later on that evening, we headed over to the fundraiser dinner, which I'll share later.
The next morning, we all met at our favorite breakfast place. They have the most amazing cinnamon rolls. This restaurant is right next to the railroad tracks, so you can hear the sound of the train whistle blowing while eating. The owners even have a small active train that goes around the upper part of the cafe'. The kids love to watch it as it comes around. Mia saw some pink flowers, and stopped for a moment to see and touch them.
In the distance, you will see a tall blue building. It is the local theatre, and it's been there since 1940. This is their 85th year of movies and entertainment. The first movie I ever saw there was the delightful Willie Wonka. I'll always remember that.
I opened up Nel's presents in the Cafe, and Jess said hers will come later. Harney & Sons is one of my favorite teas. Here's the gifts that Nel gave me. If you notice, the gold spoon has a rose handle, and she got it from our favorite home shop in her town. Now, we all have that same spoon.
After that, Jess surprised me with some chocolate cupcakes, and we were all getting ready to drive back home. It was a beautiful time with my family. My hometown has gotten quite crowded; we couldn't even find a parking spot at the pizza place in old town, so we had to go to another. I was glad to be driving back to my peaceful little home in the mountains.

Did I miss your birthday? I am terribly sorry. I seemed to think it was earlier.
That looked like such a happy and colorful trip with all the beautiful flowers and food and the pool looked so refreshing. The little girls are all so beautiful.
So you drive down the mountain 50 minutes and you are there?
I bet it was nice to see all the family and your brother.
I went to the cemetery last Thursday and put flowers on.
I did not see a pig face - but maybe a bear to the right.
What kind of bird was that black with red?
Love trains.
And I love cinnamon rolls too.
I remember Willy Wonka too.
So what does birthday party tea taste like. Love your spoon.
All in all a great trip - you all were safe - had a great time - and saw your family!

Tanto ejercicio se hace viajando, que te abre el apetito y hay que buscar un buen restaurante para reponer las fuerzas perdidas.
Un abrazo.

What a lovely trip back to your hometown! It sounds like it was a wonderful mix of celebration, remembrance, and quality time with family. The fundraiser dinner being the 35th anniversary made it extra special, and celebrating your upcoming birthday there was a nice touch. I especially enjoyed hearing about your traditions, like the Mexican eatery and the pizza place, and the sweet surprise of the flowers on your parents' resting place. The little moments you captured, like the "pig face" tree and the kids enjoying the pool and the train at the breakfast cafe, really bring the visit to life. It's clear how much you cherish your family and your hometown, even with the increased crowds! I look forward to hearing about the fundraiser dinner in your next post. Safe travels back to your peaceful mountain home.

I enjoyed this post so much Sheri, the photos, the family time, the love that pours out, I just love it. Your family is special to me, even if I have not actually met you in person. I have been following you a long time, and I appreciate the relationship you have with your children and grandchildren and family.

Just wanted to say I do see the pig face! lol

Disfruta los niños y ellos nos hace también disfrutar del momento, cuando los vemos felices y contentos.
Un abrazo.
I have really enjoyed looking and reading! In fact, I wish it had been longer! I love this t-towel with the bunny and basket of carrots. There is also so much joy in these photos. The crimson flower is called a Powder Puff bush.
I've been waiting on this post. First of all, the girls have the prettiest little smile. Sheri, I can tell just in these photos that you enjoyed being back in your hometown. it is a very pretty place and I enjoyed seeing how the old theater stood tall. That tree trunk..oh my, I saw so many things in that trunk! You did receive so sweet gifts for your birthday. Glad you were treated like a queen! Enjoyed reading about your trip and seeing the lovely pictures.
What a lovely trip south out of the mountains. Glad you had someone to drive you and also got to do a little birthday celebrating too. What a very special adventure. I love that you visited your mom and dad's gravesite too. My sister lives about 2 miles from our mother's gravesite, but doesn't visit. When I go to California I take flower and a broom to clean it up a bit.
Happy Birthday Celebration!
Looks like y'all had a good time.
Sheri - what a wonderful trip that you shared - it must have been so special to be with your family and see places where you once lived. I thought too that it was so nice to visit your folk's graves. I visit mine at least once a year and bring flowers. Your sweeties look so fun and I am sure you enjoy each precious moment. Glad you got there and back home safe too. Have a Happy Easter dear one. P.S. I just was fortunate on those two photos to have the sun shining through the clouds that gave them a certain haze. Thanks for noticing. Hugs!
I am so happy you got to have that special time with your family loved ones and in your hometown, too! What a special time and definitely memory-making moments. Thanks for sharing, dear Sheri.
What a very special time with so many members of your family in a place you love. It sounds as if it's the perfect hometown and I'm glad they kept that movie theater going so long. Truly a wonderful way to begin your birthday celebrations also, with things that both the adults and children enjoyed!
Such a wonderful reunion in your own hometown, dear Sheri! It's so fun to go back and visit places that hold sweet memories and share it with your own grandchildren. So nice that your son drove and your brother joined your daughter and granddaughters for the visit. The park is so pretty and the memory of your first movie at the old theater is sweet. Love all the doves at the cemetery. Of all the places that doves should be, it is there. xx
Sweet birthday gifts, too. Love the Birthday Party tea and the little Easter gift bag. A blessed Easter to you and your family, dear friend. Hugs x K
