The Jewel Of A House

You may have heard about the wildfire that's going on in California right now.  It is an active wildfire in northern California, and it has affected several counties.  It's called The Park Fire, and it is the largest wildfire in California, 2024, and the fourth largest in California history.  It's not that close to where I live, about an hour away, and thank God it's about 99% contained now.

Mia started school last week, and this is her first day of school outfit.

Her and Nel did their traditional first day of school breakfast at the bakery before dropping her off for first grade.

My son made a batch of jumbo shrimp, and I think it was his best one yet - butter, lemon, hot spices, ts. of salsa, and honey.

Grilled cheese sandwich with smoked turkey.

I had to get these delightful dish towels I saw at the store.  They remind me of my Disney-loving daughters.

Baby Charlotte turned ONE last week!

While visiting with the girls recently, I noticed how hard they try to manage work and kids and teaching and the home, and it's not easy.  When I was shopping with Jess one day at Target, we saw this cup and both smiled, and I bought it for her, cause sometimes you just have to embrace the mess.

She made homemade apple cinnamon scones.

Francesca going for a ride with Papa in his classic vintage Volkswagen Bug.

My neighbor's latest garden decor.

I have 10 pines in my front yard!  I do love the Falls and Winters up here.

I went into town to get a few things.  I talked with some ladies while I was out, R, P, and K.  This is a small town, and everybody knows everyone.  I found some cute things - a felt fox, a coffee cup, a pumpkin hot pad, and some Fall socks!

And it's never too early for an orange pumpkin on the porch.

It's good to see you again, September.

That's the cutest little first-day-of-school dress! All the girls are darling and Happy Birthday to Charlotte, too. That shrimp sauce looks to die for! How nice to have a son who is such a good cook. It's lovely to be out and run into people for a good chat! And just loving all your pines!

Oh goodness....whats not to LOVE about this post! Mia is adorable in her first day of school picture, even down to her little converse shoes. Happy Birthday to Charlotte..she is a cutie as well. I have wondered about the fire...if it has been contained or not. Hopefully this huge thing will be totally OUT. You picked up some nice fall decorations (I'm so ready for Fall). You will have to show us how you display everything. And...those shrimp look so good. I know you all enjoyed them. May your Labor Day be filled with rest, relaxation and lots of happiness.

Sheri, your grands are just the cutest! Growing up so fast. I love the first day of school traditions! How can Charlotte be one already? She's cutie pie. I love the jewel of the house prose--so true! I'm so glad to hear the Park fire is contained. Those fires are so dangerous and my heart goes out to the victims and to the brave firefighters! Your son's shrimp sure looks good as well as those cookies! And who could resist that yummy sandwich? Have a happy week, my dear friend.

That’s great news on the fire Sheri. I loved all these photos of the girls. They look adorable in their cute outfits. Hard to believe Charlotte turned one this week. Must seem such a fast year. Your son’s jumbo shrimp looks incredible as do the grilled cheese sandwich, those cookies, and the scones look delicious. Loved Fall decorative touches. Every photo makes me smile. Thank you so much for visiting me. I am glad to be catching up with you today. Happy Labor Day and Happy September!

It’s hard to believe that Charlotte is already one. My goodness where does the time go? Your granddaughters are so pretty and growing up so fast. What a cute first day of school photo of Mia. She looks excited.
How fun to ride In Dad’s vintage VW bug. My parents owned 2 of them and I had a 71 VW pop up camper/bus that was still running into the mid 90’s. Many fun times in that bus.
Oh that Park Fire… now they are in the final stages of mopping up. That fire was one reason, I didn’t enjoy this summer like I usually do. So happy it’s almost out. I know that area well and will be sad when we eventually see the destruction.
All your food photos look scrumptious.
Enjoy today and the rest of this beautiful first week of our beloved September. 🍁

I love this post. Mia's outfit is so adorable, right down to her matching shoes and socks! I love every single thing you bought, and would have bought each of them myself. Charlotte is such a happy and radiant baby. I just love the tradition of eating at the bakery before the first day of school!!! It gives the day an awesome start before she even gets to school!

It was a poignant picture of that fire - I prayed for it - but honestly I thought it was out by now.
Mia is adorable in her checkered dress and red shoes. So cute.
Nice tradition to go to the bakery.
Your son seems to be a chef! The shrimp looked good. As well as the grilled cheese.
Love the Disney towels.
Happy birthday little Charlotte - looks like a little girl now - Jewel of the house.
I don't know why they go to a bakery when they have those apple cinnamon scones. lol
I had a tangerine colored VW Beetle from 1971. I loved it.
If I had a pumpkin here it would probably melt!
The cookies looked good and I loved your fox and socks!
You had a busy week!

I hope Charlotte enjoyed her first birthday! That's a delicious looking batch of shrimp by the way. And those apple scones look wonderful! I love your new mug and cute socks. They are making me excited for fall. I bought a mum for the front porch a few days, and I think I just might hang my fall wreath on the front door this week! Have a great day.

I love your little strolls through life, Sheri. You brighten my day with your precious finds and sweet grandgirl pics and the talk of your day. Just such a lovely thing to be here. I pray that fire stays far, far away from your area. Seems like fire is a regular part of California life. 😢Hope your week is a good one, my friend! 🥰

It looks like you are embracing Fall. What sweet grand daughters. Love your trees in your yard. So hope all fires are contained very soon. It is so sad with the destruction of homes. Happy pumpkin season.

Hi Sheri, I love this post, and the signs of Fall in the air. Mia looks a sweet little lady in her new plaid school dress. I hope she has a great year. Your Fall socks, pumpkin and fox are so pretty - I love those Autumn colours. Happy Birthday to Baby Charlotte who has grown into a real cute little character, bless her. So sad to see the wildfire, a real hazard for California, and also for Australia as we go into the hot season very soon. Have a great week my friend.

I love all the Fall in this post. Such beautiful granddaughters! My first granddaughter arrived on Aug 1st. Crazy isn't, you have followed my blog since the beginning and now my girls are both Moms. I'm on season 2 of Fire Country which is about Cal fire, and I hope the real fires get contained and put out soon. Blessings into the Autumnal season Sherri.

Oh Sheri - such a loving heart felt post. Mia, Charlotte and Francesca have to be your wonderful treasures. Adore Mia's outfit...buffalo plaid is a favorite of mine...used to have a flannel shirt that unfortunately wore out because I had to wear it so much :)!! The fires are so sad and my heart goes out to all those who are losing homes and trees and foliage. I am so glad you are okay and they are far enough away for your safety. Have I told you that your son can cook for me any time. That shrimp looks excellent. Well Sheri enjoy this month of Sept. Hugs!

Your son's shrimp dish and the grilled cheese with smoked turkey look amazing 😋
The cup you bought Jess is a lovely gesture.
Your front yard with the pines must look beautiful in the Fall, and the Fall finds you scored are cute, especially the pumpkin.
