A Drive To The City

For my birthday last week, I drove to the city with my son.  It's about 50 minutes away, and this time I drove.  It always makes me nervous to take the highways and freeways, but I had a great day!  The drive there is actually a peaceful country drive, and it's only when we get to the city that I feel uneasy, as I'm not familiar with the streets.  We first stopped at my favorite cafe' and had breakfast.  My son had a gift certificate to the movie theatres, so he wanted to see a movie.  It was a bit early for the movie to start, so we headed over to Target.  I just bought some pink flip flops, as I use them in the Spring and Summer for outside chores.  It was time for the show to start, and we saw "The Fall Guy," with Ryan Gosling.  It was a blend of action, mystery, and comedy, and although there were parts that were too violent for this mama, my son enjoyed the movie, and I just indulged in the theatre's buttered popcorn.  It was interesting to see the adventures of a stuntman, and Ryan Gosling is a talented actor.  After the movie, we went to all my favorite shops - World Market, Michaels, Barnes & Noble.  It was time for lunch, and I felt like Italian food, and Olive Garden never disappoints.  We shared the "Tour of Italy," as it comes with a salad and bread sticks, and was very filling.  After lunch, we went to the mall, and I loved browsing through Home Goods.  I wanted to go to See's Candies last, as it was a hot day and didn't want the chocolate to melt in the car.  It was the most wonderful day spent with my son, and he paid for almost everything.  When I got home, there were packages in the mail from the girls, and handmade drawings and cards from the kids.  Jess wrapped all the gifts so nicely, and tucked them away in lavender tissue paper.  Nel gave me a generous Amazon gift card, and she always finds the prettiest cards for special occasions.

The next day, I opened up the blinds in the laundry room, and there were two deer right next to my car.  Oh May, you're always full of surprises!

Happy Birthday 🎈🎊🎂
I’m glad you had a fun time with your son in town. It did get hot last week but it’s cooling off - this morning we have some wind - time to open the windows and air the house out.
That plate of food from Olive Garden looks good. Have a fun week!

What wonderful gifts and cards! I love the little fairy door and am thinking you got it at home goods or Michaels. ALL of the stores you mention are my favorites as well, with Home Goods being #1. But we do not have a See's anywhere, I wish we did. Happy belated birthday!

Oh Sheri. That sounded like an awesome day! Loved hearing about all the favorite spots you visited and the yummy treats you had. Plus you got to spend precious time with your son! Now HOW did your birthday get by without followers knowing? Did you keep that quiet on purpose? I am so happy you have lovely memories of that birthday! I hope your new year of life will be filled with many good things. May lots of your wishes come true. Also, I hope you have super visits with your daughters and grands, enjoyment of walks near your cottage, lovely flowers and bird song near you, as well, and oodles and oodles of love. Happy (late) Birthday.

Happy belated birthday Sheri! Your day sounds like a perfect way to celebrate. How lovely your son treated you. All the shops you visited are my favorites as well! Love the pick flip flops--so cute. And See's Candies is a wonderful treat. I remember visiting their shops in California and also in airport shopping areas. So glad the traffic was especially kind to you as you traveled outside of your comfort. Lovely seeing the deer outside your window! Have a lovely week ahead, my friend.

Happy Birthday! That sounds like such a good day. And I am like you when it comes to driving on streets I am not familiar with. And also if it is rush hour traffic. I had just rather not.

Oh Sheri - Happy birthday late. It looks like you had such a special day with your son. Italian food is such a favorite of mine. Yours looked absolutely delicious. Yes, peonies always bring back special memories of loved ones. I think possibly because they seem to bloom right around Memorial Day. That is right squirrels are not your favorite. They keep Kelsey and I entertained though and ours are getting quite tame because they think there is special food just for them :)! Well take care friend and enjoy the coming weekend. Hugs!

Best of all, you were with your son and you can't beat that. I hope you continue the celebrations well into June. Happy Belated Birthday!

That movie sounded cute. Action packed though - I love buttered popcorn too.
Olive Garden - so nice they let you share - I love it there too. Tour of Italy - a little taste of it all.
How nice your son treated you for your birthday.
Hey, I love See's candies.
And you got home safe and received your gifts from your girls. Paris tea in your new cup. Were those pistachio muffins? Never had Treccia. What are the roar drinks about?
Well, I do approve this birthday! You had a terrific one.

A Very Happy Birthday to you! You received so many lovely gifts and getting to spend one on one time with your son had to make the day special too. A great celebration. The deer are everywhere. My sister lives where it is hot and arid like a desert just 120 miles away from e. The deer sit under their shady trees with their young and she always sends photos too. A sweet reminder of the beautiful creation we see.

I really liked the gifts you received.
Fantastic to open the blinds and see two deer.
