Golden Angel

I love that Nel loves old things.

She always has.  She likes the new also, but her heart carries her to a time of old, a time of treasures from the past.  She makes a very nice living, and can choose any tree topper that she wanted; angels, snowflakes, stars, yet every year she still adorns her Christmas tree with the same tree topper.  It is a golden angel, and it is the one I put on top of the tree when my kids were growing up.  When she moved out, she took this angel, and has had her ever since.

Some things never change, and now her daughter, little Mia, delights in putting up the same angel on the top of their Christmas tree.  She usually goes with gold ribbon, but I like the red plaid she chose this year.

And here is Francesca in her Elsa gown decorating her pink tree.  Jess set it up in her room, and she has fun decorating it every year.  I just love this little tree, and I see a few old ornaments from the past as well.

"Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime."

~Laura Ingalls Wilder

Can you believe there's no Christmas tree lots where I live here in the mountains?   There's one in the next town over.  Nel said it's still early, but if I don't find any, to just wrap some lights around a tree in my front yard since I live in the woods.  I may do just that.  ; )

(these lights were wrapped around bushes at a church in my old town).

The joys of childhood still engender tenderness as I grow older. Have a blessed day.

Francesca is gorgeous, and the photo of her and her tree is melting my heart. The tree is perfect for her, and they are pretty much both the same size. I love your big fat outdoor Christmas tree!

I had an angel just like the one Nel has. I have a different one now. That one fell off my tree one year and broke. )-: I love the tree Francesca has. That is a great idea to let the kids decorate their own tree. Why didn't I think of that when my kids were little? (-: I hope you find a tree to decorate. I like the outside tree idea too!

Ih, Sheri! Your grands are growing up! They are still adorable. I think lights on a tree in your yard would really be lovely!

Wonderful remembrances and adorable grands! How sweet and magic! We put up our fake Christmas tree together with old ornaments which were bought when they had the same age of your grands. Now they are in his twenties...we had a great time as ever. I know this Christmas will be a very difficult time...The first Christmas without my father. But I know I must be happy because Jesus Christ is the reason of the season! Love your awesome post.

I'm like Nel, the old things from the past have the most meaning to me. This year will be the 55th year we put our angel on our tree. It wouldn't be Christmas without Angie on the top of our tree. Your grands are so sweet enjoying the delight that only Christmas brings. I hope to see how you decorate the evergreen in your yard, Sheri! Happy decorating!

It is sweet that Jess likes to carry old traditions forward, something her own children can continue.

I would guess most people in your area probably go out and cut a tree down; thus not tree lots.
I loved seeing your little grand daughters with their Christmas traditions of the angel topper and Francesca's tree in her room.

Oh, I hope you find a tree lot not far away. I love that Nel still loves and uses the angel and Francesca is a little doll in her Elsa dress. This post made me smile so very big!

Good morning dearest Sheri!

I think that's a great idea, to wrap a tree in your yard with lights. This year, I can't do any decorating because our house is a mess, due to some renovation work on the bedroom. Before I know it, the season will be over but I can at least enjoy the Christmas lights my neighbor across the street put up, which light the entire block!

I hope you are enjoying every moment of making new memories for years to come, sweet friend!

How sweet that she still uses the gold angel tree topper. I have lots of old ornaments on my tree as well. I love how excited Francesca is. Christmas is so much fun with little ones around.

What a pretty display at the church in your old town! I bet your yard would look wonderful with one of your trees lighted up with Christmas lights! A woodsy Christmas! I am hearing we should all hurry and get the Christmas items we want as soon as we can, due to those transport issues! I was speaking with the checker at Walmart and she said the Christmas stuff is down to two aisles now and only candy still in good supply. I know they had no boxes of ornaments left when I looked just last week! The golden angel is so beautiful and it's heartwarming to see that the next generation is cherishing it, too.

I love old Christmas things too, and the golden angel is very beautiful indeed, well worth keeping. How lovely to hand it on to the next generation. Francesca is getting off to a great start having a tree in her room, and I always applaud pink decorations (I have A LOT of them, he he). Hope you find a real tree, inside or outside :) Enjoy the season Sheri.

I think it is wonderful you gave your daughter the angel and that she will pass it to her daughter. Memories.
Have they opened a tree lot yet?
Sorry I am so late in writing - I have been so discombobulated this week.
I do have to say I like the bushes that were wrapped in lights. I bet you could do it to an outside tree.
Francesca is a doll.

Nice....when growing I never thought I would want OLD things around me, as I aged I realized I would love to have antiques around me, esp heimlooms handed to me. My angel that is topping my tree has been with me for a long time. When going through a divorce at the age of 32 I started selling Christmas around the World, to be away from the house. My angel was part of my kit. She is dressed in ivory, porcelain face and hands. She has been on my tree for 30 yrs. Moving to smaller trees over the years, I have tons of ornaments that I don't even use. Big trees would take them all, smaller, not even half. HOping all is well with you all.

Sheri - it is lovely that your daughter Nel enjoys the old things. There is such a warmth in having keepsakes from our childhood Christmas'. Mia and Francesca are so sweet. Like the plaid ribbon on the tree. What a darling idea. Well friend I sure hope you can find a tree to wrap your lights around. I am sure there is one somewhere with your name on it. Take care and have a great week. Hugs!

We have an artificial tree but I have heard that there is a shortage of live trees this year. Your pictured trees are beautiful and the tree in your granddaughter’s room is so sweet.
