Buried In Snow

Well, I wasn't sure if we would have a White Christmas here, but indeed, we did!  I looked out my front window Christmas morning, and saw a blanket of white.  The snow was falling too, it was magical.

I'll show you some of the things I got for Christmas.  Jess got me this copper tea pot.  She has the same one in her home, and I love the handle and lid on it.

Nel got me some baking pans, which I really needed.  Mine was getting so old and tarnished.  These bake well, and already made a batch of cookies!

One of my favorite things was the pj's Nel and Renecke and Mia got me.  They are so soft and comfy and warm, and I really needed them with the cold Winters we have up here.

Brian always gets the most thoughtful gifts.  And he looks around and picks things out on his own.  He got me some See's candy, which I loved because there's no See's up here, and I crave it.  He also found a candle with the scent of berry and sage.  On the candle is a design of red flowers, and he knows how much I like red roses.  The smell is so pretty, and I'll keep it out all year.

An assortment of hot chocolates - the peppermint is the best.

One day I heard a sound on my roof, and when I looked outside, I noticed we were getting hail!

And then icicles!

I love the dress Mia was wearing on Christmas day.  It is red lace and so cute.  Nel always finds the cutest holiday outfits for her to wear on-line.

My son made Rice Krispie Treats.  They didn't have the original cereal, only chocolate, so he thought he'd give it a try, and they turned out really good.

I wanted to show you how much snow we are getting, and all the things around me that are buried in snow.

These benches are at my favorite drive-through.  We got fish and chips one day.

I haven't seen many of these lately.  I think they're hiding for the Winter, although there are a few that still scurry about in my front yard and up the trees.

My neighbor's garden things.

Pine needles and my poor rose bush.

And me!

The story of an orange........Jess was shopping at Trader Joe's, and Francesca kept putting goodies in the cart, and Jess kept taking some of them out.  She picked up an orange and put it in the cart, and Jess thought, "Ok, we'll keep that one."  Jess always puts an orange in my stocking every year, a tradition that was passed on from my mom where she put oranges in our stockings growing up.  Jess thought that Francesca may have picked up that orange to give me for Christmas, so she put it inside the package along with the other gifts.  A single orange.....a most treasured gift.

I hope the new year brings you treasured gifts, not expensive or elaborate gifts, but small dear ones, those of gentleness, ones that only the innocence of a child can bring.

Beautiful snow, and a lot if it!
The orange at the bottom of the stocking stretches the knit for more to fit. lol. I read in the old days, early 20th Century, oranges were prized as gifts.

Those thoughtful gifts are the remembered ones, and your family not only knows you well but seems to delight in surprising you with them. And your snow! Oh how I want some but it's beautiful to enjoy your pictures of it here. So deep! And you're so pretty in it, Sheri!

What gorgeous snow! I love seeing your photos but I would have to really work up my courage to drive in it. Everything is capped with snow, so pretty! I think rose bushes are like huskies -- they revel in being in the snow and cold! I bet you get a bumper crop of pretty blossoms in spring! What wonderful gifts you received, so thoughtful! Especially that orange! The baking pans with the ridged bottoms I have found do an excellent job of keeping the bottoms of cookies from getting too browned. And the copper teapot is just beautiful. The candle holder will be wonderful as a decoration even when the candle is gone!

It is such a treat to see YOU! Oh my, you are so young and pretty. The red benches piled with snow are such an unusual and pretty winter image. I adore this tea pot, and will be looking for it on Amazon. It is the prettiest one I have ever seen. It will look so gorgeous in your kitchen, and be a focal point. What is the blue object on a pole outside..a light maybe? It is pretty. The candle is very pretty, as is Mia's lovely dress. All your gifts are wonderful and very thoughtful!

Sheri what perfect timing for that beautiful snowfall. Loved the red truck sitting nearby...makes a pretty decoration for Christmas. Your presents are all wonderful. I can see you in those warm pyjamas waiting for the pretty tea kettle to boil and then sipping some peppermint hot chocolate. Such a great Christmas post with Mia dressed up so lovely in her special Christmas outfit. Hope that Orange tasted as delicious as it looked. Hope your New Year is blessed with much joy. Hugs

Oh how magical it looks around your lovely home, Sheri! You look so adorable in your red hat. Your gifts are so thoughtful and useful. The copper tea kettle is beautiful--And the chocolate chip cookies are tasty I'm sure. I made several batches of them this Christmas at the request of our eldest grandson. And those rice crispy treats your son made I know are good. We always had an orange in our stocking growing up along with a peppermint stick. We would roll the orange to make it juicy and use the peppermint stick as a straw in the orange to drink the juice. How very thoughtful you were sent one for Christmas! Happy New Year, my Friend!

Oh I love your tea kettle. I bet you are enjoying it a lot! The new pans are really nice to get too. Sees candy is a favorite here as well and we went to the Sees candy store at the mall and they were sold out of our favorite kind. I had to order it online. I love Mias beautiful dress. It is so fun to shop for the little ones for Christmas. I am sure the orange was a welcome surprise!

Everything looks better with a dusting of snow, and you look wonderful in your red hat. Merry Christmas! You received lovely gifts: the kettle is beautiful, and the red pj's are definitely You. It really is Winter there, with the icicles and hail, and snow on a rose. The red tables look so festive with a topping of snow, a great picture and Mia in a red dress is just perfect. Dear Francesca, finding you an orange, a very special Christmas gift.

Good morning dearest Sheri!

I am so happy to see your beautiful face here at the end of the post; you look as young and lovely as ever. Isn't the snow a great addition to Christmas? We didn't have any on Christmas Eve or day but we did get some on Dec. 26, just enough to make it magical.

I love the orange; it is a tradition from I think, Victorian times or even earlier, when oranges were a rare luxury that came from afar. I think they still symbolize another rare gift these days: simplicity and gratitude.

I wish you a wonderful new year my dear old friend...hugs to you!

Wonderful presents. I think the hot chocolate looks delicious. I am envious of your Christmas snow. We had Christmas ice and there were quite a few pile-ups on the highway on Christmas morning.

You must have been a good girl for Santa - copper tea kettle, nice new baking pans, chocolate, roses, candles, pj's, hot chocolate, and orange (sweet) - wow - very nice. Do they ship them all to you?
Then the nice and beautiful cold snow - ice cycles - and hail - you got the gamut of it.
We have squirrels in the house again - I HATE SQUIRRELS!! Sorry. $$$
Never saw chocolate rice crispy treats - they look good. ☺
And your fabulous family - a wonderful Christmas.

We also had an orange in the toe of our stockings, along with nuts and ribbon candy.

My dad grew up in Eastern Tennessee in a large family . 9 kids. The only thing his parents could afford on Christmas during the depression was oranges and nuts.

When I was a kid my dad always brought home oranges and walnuts on Christmas Eve. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without the aromas of oranges, tangerines etc.

I wondered about you and the snow. It snowed all night and part of the day here on the valley floor - non of it stuck! Just wasn’t cold enough.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! That is a lot of snow. Its 80 down south still, but we will be getting some freezing weather by Sunday night. What lovely and thoughtful gifts you received. I like the style of that baking pan and those PJs do look warm and cozy. I never knew that about oranges - I used to get one in my stocking when I was a kid.

Such sweet and sentimental gifts, Sheri - those are truly the best. Gifts from the heart. My family always put oranges in our stockings, too! It must be something carried over from the 'good old days'. Your snow is very pretty - I love it piled on the orange picnic tables. You look so cute in your flannel and stocking hat playing in the snow! Little Francesca is so sweet in her Christmas dress and someday she will look back and treasure these photos. I hope you and your loved ones have a new year filled with many wonderful blessings, dear Sheri! Hugs xo K

Oh Sheri, you are getting LOTS of snow. That's such a different weather pattern from Christmases in southern California! Looks like a very petty area, though, and YOU look pretty yourself! I'll bet that orange tasted yummy, too.
