September Reminds Me Of

I was having my morning coffee Saturday, and I came across this note from my Mom.  Yes, I keep treasured notes, and they are hidden in desks and drawers around the house, but mostly in a felt pouch which I bought especially for these keepsakes that I've had for years.  September is here, and this month always reminds me of my Mom.

I miss visiting her at the cemetery up north, as I used to make a point to put flowers on her site rain or shine.

I miss going over her house and just visiting with her.  I would look all around and notice any new items that she had in her home.  Jess does this also when she comes over, and I always smile when she sees something new and comments on it, cause I used to do the same thing at my Mom's house.

She didn't have much jewelry, but I always admired these vintage earrings she had.  Aren't they funky?  I don't wear much jewelry any more, but when I was younger, I loved earrings, so these got my attention.  When she left this world, I got her pair of earrings that I admired so much, and keep them in a glass box with a few other pieces she had.

Somehow, the place where we grew up
always pulls us back at some time or another.

I was out on the lawn the other day watering the grass and plants, and I noticed a single weed on the front lawn.   I picked it and brought it in, but it eventually shriveled up.  Unlike the weeds that wither away and scatter, the memories of the ones we love really never die.  They remain with us til the end.

Just thinking about my mom lately,
it's as simple as that.  ; )

September is a pleasant month,
one of my favorites.

What a lovely post! Memories are indeed precious treasures. I wrote about memories of my mother-in-law today. She passed 2 years ago, and there are days I just want to pick up the phone and call her. Then I get sad all over again when I remember I can't.

Blessings,

I did a search to look at the little house I grew up in last night. I was happy to see it had been updated and painted a pretty color. I guess we are feeling nostalgic this week! Sweet hugs!

September is a lovely month here too Sheri, with gentle sunshine and flowers as we cast off the Winter blues. What a beautiful portrait of your mother in that gorgeous pendant. It is so special to have some of her jewellery, and the notes are priceless. Is that your house? It looks very similar to the house I grew up in! :)

Dearest Sheri, you and me both. I think of my mother a lot especially when I'm taking a walk in the sunshine. I can't look at some of the very few things I have left from her without crying my eyes out, so I avoid looking at them. However, if there is any value in keeping certain things it's this: some objects are monetarily priceless but worth so much to our hearts. That is where we store up our treasures. Your mother was lovely!

precious sharing dear Sheri

i loved looking at these lovely images as always specially photo of your dear mother within pretty locket :) she was indeed a gorgeous lady :)

i just came back from my native village i can relate to your thoughts well, visiting mom's grave seemed more important and meaningful than visiting people alive and around i don;t know why , i feel grip of her memories getting stronger by the time . while my visit there i see things are changed almost everything yet i can smell her by looking each corner of our old house
i love September too ,it is beginning of winter in northern areas where i used to live once and i love winters though my body protest against it now
blessings and hugs!

I love the earrings. I have a keepsake box for special notes like that from my Dad. I miss him so much everyday. I am lucky I can visit his place anytime since it's on the ranch. However the people that bought my Mom's house where I grew up had it torn down to build a new home. So that was very shocking and upsetting to me when we drove by it one day. I myself love old houses, but I guess not everyone does.

Moms are always well worth thinking about and I am grateful that you shared these stories of your mom. I adore those earrings, too. And I love that you saved her notes. I have mom's too -- when I was at college (five miles away) she would send me little notes because when you're local you never get mail! She sounds like a lovely and wonderful woman -- that last photo is such a gem. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Oh Sheri, I enjoyed your sweet post about your dear mother. Her earrings are so pretty. I'm so glad you have them where you can gaze on them and remember all the good times with her. I don't think we ever stop thinking of our mothers for she was the one that first loved us. Take care, my friend.xo

Beautiful memories. I have a few items of my mother's but I don't take them out because the memories of her are still too raw. I hope one day to be in that blissful place of remembering without pain and tears. Soon, I hope.

Sheri, this is such a lovely post! We never forget our moms, do we? They have been such an important part in our life and they have loved us unconditionally. My mom was born in September, she would have turned 99 years old this month. I still miss her and probably will never stop missing her. When she passed away I inherited her jewelry as well, and the simple golden bracelet I wear every day om my right wrist, just like my mom did. They never leave us...

Thoughts of our moms do creep up on us when least expecting it. I love seeing your moms jewelry. So pretty! I am sad because I can't visit my mother's grave unless I drive to California. My sister lives about 3 miles from where are mother is buried and never visits the grave sight. The last time I was there I wished I had a broom with me to clean it up a bit.
