China Cabinet

My china cabinet....I almost left it behind when I moved.  The last three houses I've lived in were small, and it's a big piece of furniture to have in a small space, but I couldn't leave it behind.  It was a dear gift many years ago, and I still appreciate it after all these years.  It was made in Italy, and when I first saw it, I just had to have it.  After it was set up with this last move, me and Nel tried so hard to get the long glass plate to fit into the cabinet, but couldn't manage to do it.

This last weekend I did it Nel!  I was determined to get that glass plate in there somehow, and she mentioned that maybe if we place it in upwards instead of downwards it would work.  Well Nel, after a lot of bumping and banging I maneuvered the glass plate securely in there.  But you'll have to help me with the upper one, if I decide to put it up.  It looks nice without it.

There is a lower shelf in the cabinet to store
vases and other treasures.

This plate belonged to my Mother.  It was from her first grandchildren, my brother's kids.  There is a groove built in to display plates that have special meaning to me.

After having two girls, I was overjoyed to have a son, and this plate has always reminded me of my son.

Princess Di music box.

For some reason, blue china is the prettiest to me.

There are beveled doors on the cabinet
which are very nice.

I hung my pink heart on one of the knobs.

Favorite tea cups

My Mom gave me and my sister and sister-in-law
this cute porcelain tea pot many years ago,
and I still have it.

It was a lot of work that day, cause I cleaned and polished everything that was in the cabinet.  I don't know if I'll have this 'ole china cabinet forever, but it keeps moving with me, and it has been a part of me for about 35 years.

I think every woman should have a space to call her own for her special treasures and keepsakes that she collects throughout the years.

I am sitting in the blue chair listening to this stillness.  The only sound: the occasional gurgle of tea coming out of the pot and into the cup.  How can this be?  Such calm, such peace, such solitude in this world of woe.

Enjoy your cup of tea today.  ; )

I use to have a china cabinet like that. When My Grandmother passed I inherited hers which was a family heirloom so I chose to keep it and pass on the other one. I enjoy seeing my collection inside. I am glad you were able to get the shelf in. Enjoy your tea!

What a beautiful china cabinet! Totally gorgeous! I'm so glad you found the space for it. I no longer have a china cabinet...haven't for close to 20 years. When my husband and I got married in 1986, we were VERY into modern furniture, and our house was all black lacquer furniture, including the china cabinet. It was beautiful. But in a move in early 2001, we no longer had room for all that furniture, and since our tastes had changed and we no longer liked black lacquer, we got rid of it. Now, I use what is really a computer armoire as a "sort of" china cabinet.

That blue teapot is beautiful, and, of course, Old Country Roses is too. It is one of my favorite china patterns.

Blessings to you,
Patti

What a lovely china cabinet filled with lovely things. Our china cabinet belonged to Clint's grandmother and is from the early 1900's. I have it filled with memories also - things that were my Mom's and Grandmother's.

I can see why you care so much about your china cabinet, it displays a lot of family treasures and thus holds memories. The cabinet itself is very handsome with its glass doors so of course you need to keep it!

Oh, I love seeing your pretty treasures in the china cabinet. It looks very much like mine and holds many of the same things. It's in my condo in NC though and I won't bring it down to Florida. I'll sure miss it though! No place here for it....but I have a couple of small cabinets that take it's place. Take care and enjoy the memories of each treasure you have!

Oh Sheri, your china cabinet is so lovely in your new home! I love each piece you have collected over the years. The Grandmother plate really touched my heart--so pretty! Blue and white china is such a classic and your pieces are so nice. My Mama loved blue and white china as well. When I see it I always think of her. Enjoy gazing at your lovely cabinet full of wonderful memories!

Dear Sheri I can see why that beautiful China cabinet had to be kept. Not only is it lovely but so are your treasures. My favourite China is blue and white too. I have a creamer from my dear Grandma that is blue and white. It is a real treasure of mine. Thank you too for stopping by to visit me. If you look carefully at each photo you will see a hummingbird. They are keeping me busy preparing sugar water daily. Have a great week. Hugs!

Good morning Sheri! YOU DID IT! You are braver than me; I would have been reluctant to move around a glass shelf on my own! What a lovely piece and filled with things that bring you joy upon looking and reflecting. Big hugs to you my dear and enjoy that quiet tea time. I'm almost done with school and I know I'll have a few tea time moments to report!

I think you are absolutely correct in taking your china cabinet - you would be so sad giving it up and it is gorgeous - surely one of your girls will want it someday or your son!
I love that you keep beautiful meaning things in there.
The porcelain pot with flowers is so pretty.
Love the beveled glass.

That is a beautiful cabinet! I can see why you don't want to part with it. I have a china cabinet and table I had when my boys were little. They used t do homework on it. It's not fancy - just has a wealth of memories and I have hauled it around for years. I can still see the markings, where they pressed too hard on the surface top - at the time I wasn't too happy about it - NOW it adds to the character and is precious.

Sherry, When we love a piece of furniture, it's hard to give it up. I hang on to the china hutch/buffet I have , even though it is nothing fancy. I have had since my girls were young and I keep their pictures on it. :) So nice to see some of your treasures. Please stay well and safe. Blessings to you. xoxo, love, Susie

I love the story of your treasures...and love that you moved the china cabinet once again. It is beautiful. I love how neat it is. Mine has too many treasures in it. But they are all treasures and they they will stay. But looking at yours makes me want to give it a good cleaning.

Large cabinets like yours are beautiful and so handy for holding things.
But yes, a hassle to move and they do take up space. Congrats for getting the glass in. I have a white pitcher, similar and yet quite different from yours. And aqua turquoise pottery. So those caught my eye.

Lovely day and beyond to you Sheri.

Dewena said...

Of course it was too beautiful to leave behind! Where would you have put those treasures otherwise? I agree, blue and white china is my favorite! My china cabinet was my mother's and she gave it to me when I was first married. It has moved countless times with us and it still holds our wedding china, Spode's Blue Bird--blue and white china!

That precious tea pot with the pink roses that your mother gave you must have been very carefully packed for your move. It is lovely!
