A Familiar Song

Me and Jess went to an Italian restaurant when she came in.  Now, this restaurant isn't a chain, it's an authentic place with treasured photos on the walls, one of a sweet wedding couple, good food, and a singer who sings Italian songs and old classics.

We were talking about things while eating and listening to the music, and I told her stories of my father, her grandfather.  Jess was only 4 years old when her grandpa passed away, so she didn't really know him well.  I was telling her a story about one of the funky things he used to do, when shortly after the singer started to sing a tune which reminds me of my dad.   Right away, I felt him with me once again.

I love the old classics, and some of my family likes them as well, others not so much.  How 'bout you - do you like listening to these wonderful songs of the past?

Sheri, My folks always listened to country music...that as a young teen made me blinking nuts. But I also remember all the variety shows that used to be on TV...so Andy Williams, Perry Como (so Italian)would be on TV and we all watched them , especially at holidays. I know there's things that bring our parents close to our hearts, music, scents and some sayings. Blessings to you, love, xoxo, Susie

Christmas time is such a glorious time of the year to reflect on the past and embrace those sweet moments of our parents.
My Mom and Dad were youngsters during the Big Band era, so naturally that is what they listened to when I was a kid. The old blue transistor radio sat on our yellow Formica counter tops and belted out the music of days gone by as Mom sang along!
I am glad you enjoyed your authentic dinner with Jess-sounds priceless and beautiful!
Love to you dear Sheri~

It sounds like such a wonderful place to eat and a good time to share memories. We love Iannucci's in Asheville...a family owned Italian restaurant with the BEST food and great music too. Enjoy your day sweet lady! Give Jess a hug for me!

I think I love the old songs of the past much more than the songs of the present. Give me the Gershwins, Rodgers and Hart, Irving Berlin and more! And when you hear one that reminds you of someone you love it is such a perfect moment.

The restaurant looks just wonderful. I much prefer non-chairs, even the nice ones, to a good local spot. Very authentic and I can tell you two had a wonderful, memory-filled time. Treasure that moment.

This sounds like a lovely restaurant! That's so wonderful you share memories of your dad with your daughter! My grandma died when I was 6 and I'm 30 now so I don't remember a whole lot about her, but the things I don't know or remember, my mom shares her memories of my grandma! These types of posts are so sentimental! Thanks for sharing!

Red - your favorite color is the dominant color in this restaurant, so , of course you feel 'at home' "Oldies" from the 60-ies and 70 -ies are the best music, and the singers with italian names (Sinatra,Como),the best singers.

Sheri sounds like a very special and endearing restaurant. Sinatra Sundays are the best! So that's my answer to your question, yes!

Oh Sheri, our serendipitous for that song to come on RIGHT when you were talking about your dad! Yes, I too enjoy the older songs, and now with the internet and Youtube, I often find tunes to listen to with earphones then I am transported to one of the best eras of my life: my childhood. It was then that my father played his piano, organ or accordian and embed classic songs into my memory. From Chopin to Gershwin, my father gave me my musical legacy. Oh, the memories.

That restaurant sounds wonderful, I'll bet the food was terrific, too.
I love old songs. The lyrics told a story and the melody was beautifully composted. I don't get songs that just repeat noise or that have to have fowl language in them to attack an audience.
Thank you for coming back to my blog . . . I appreciate your friendship and encouragement.

I love the old classics, Sheri. One of my Daddy's favorite songs was Moon River! Every time I hear it I am reminded of him. Thank you for reminding me of my sweet Daddy tonight. ♥

It sounds like a great place and that brings me memories of the type of restaurants there are in NY, my home town where we used to go with my parents. I love to hear old tunes of the past, nothing like music to bring us warm memories.
We prayed for you yesterday at our Rosary gathering my friend. A promise is a promise.
Hugs,

Hello my huckleberry friend.
It's great to listen to old songs with new interpretations. They can last beyond time and place.

I'm listening to 'dream a little dream of me' now on Pandora. I love the classics. More than anyone, Johnnie Mathis reminds me of my father. He was his favorite. Hubs and I joke about the lyrics today compared to back then...'Shadow of Your Smile', 'The Way You Look Tonight', and then along comes Eminem rapping about four letter words. Well now, don't I sound like an old fart! lol

Hi Sheri, Sorry I haven't stopped by in awhile. I love all classics too. My mother was a singer when she was younger and my dad loved playing the drums and organ. Our family grew up with music and there was always music playing in our house. We loved all the classic singers, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Judy Garland. We loved them all. Thanks for sharing this nostalgic post! Loved it, brought back lots of wonderful memories ♥
Hugs, Jody

Well, you know I think of you whenever I hear that tune my Huckleberry friend. Such a beautiful version.
Mr G and I enjoy eating at an authentic Italian restaurant here too, tiny spot with family pictures on the walls too. And now I'm craving pasta. :)
So many emotions visiting today. I loved catching up.
