Neighbors With Helping Hands

I was having a dryer issue last week, so I finally called an appliance company to come out and look at it.  The dryer coils were wearing out, so he replaced them, cleaned out all the filters, and it's getting heat now.  The cost wasn't too bad, and less than buying a new dryer.  This one is only about five years old.

Last Monday, early in the morning, I noticed a deer across the street at my neighbor's house.  She was munching on something in the yard, maybe her roses?

Then, later in the afternoon, I saw a deer walk right past my fence in the front of my yard.  It might have been the same deer.  I will forever be amazed when I see this special animal come to my house, as I've lived in the suburbs all my life, and didn't have the pleasure of that experience.  All the pics were taken through the window because once they see my camera, they don't stay for long.

She then walked over to my neighbor's property, crossed the street to check out the dogs,

and darted back into the woods.

The trick to my Yummy tacos is deep frying the tortillas, whether they are corn or flour.

This is Nel's birthday meal.  I'm not a fish person, but everything looked delicious.  They made the salmon and rice, and then got a crawfish etoufee from the Creole restaurant in the village to go with it.

The cake was a chocolate ganache from Trader Joe's.  It was all so good!

This picture shouts "summer" to me.

Nel took Mia to the beach to look for sea shells, and explore.  I think these shells are muscles.

And some home pics.  I gave many of my tea cups away, except a couple special ones that Nel brought back from her travels to Boston.  They were too small to drink out of, and I want to get a couple new ones from Home Goods when I go there this Fall.

And my new little item, because even when others cast a shadow over our heads, I hope to always love.

I have good neighbors here.  We have been talking a lot this week, and they are always lending a helping hand.  We got new bright green garbage containers, and my neighbor came over and took my old ones and hauled them away.  My other next door neighbor told me about Watch Duty that alerts you of the wildfires that are in the area, and gives updates on them.  These are little deeds coming from neighbors with helping hands. When I look back, I've had pretty good neighbors in all the homes I've lived in, but there were a few exceptions.  I remember one neighbor's Chihuahua that used to bark constantly when her people were at work all day.  I was not pleased about that at all.  Then, there was the house across the street with neighbors who literally lived in their front yard.  They would sit on chairs in their driveway and stare; made me uncomfortable. 😕  We had friendly and nice neighbors too.  When we moved to the two-story housing subdivision, there was the attractive couple who appeared to be perfect.  He had a work-out gym in their home, and she decorated her house so wonderfully that it looked like something out of the magazine, House Beautiful.  She invited me over, and it was fun getting ideas about decorating daughters' bedrooms.  Other neighbors' kids used to hang out at our house for hours.  That didn't bother me, as I feel most comfortable around children.  They're special, and only truth comes out of their mouths.  They may blurt something out, but it's the honest to goodness truth.  I love that about them.  So, tell me, do you have good neighbors or maybe annoying ones?

Happy Monday, Sheri. I have good neighbors for the most part. They’re all working professionals and keep to themselves but are helpful and available if needed. I prefer the company of children and animals over some grownups !

The deer in your yard is a beautiful sight and a blessing. Say a prayer for them because these fires pose danger to them. we saw three dead deer on I-5 yesterday fleeing the fire and one on Saturday. So so sad. You might start seeing more as they move away from the fire. 🔥 Watch-Duty is what we’ve used for a couple of years - also shows evacuation zones. Just be prepared. During fire season the alerts are going off all the time!

I fry my tortillas as well. The store bought taco shells just don’t taste good. I have a similar wood water can - I picked it up at Dollar General. It’s cute.

Your Monday posts always relax me and is a good start for my week!

God bless and seek peace ✌🏻

I am also fortunate to have good neighbors and some have become good friends. Lucky they could fix your dryer. The shots of the deer are amazing. Im not so happy to have deer come in my yard as they eat everything. But they are fascinating.

Our neighbors are all good. Except for the poor nurses who live across the street. Their neighbor in the back built a chicken coop right up against the fence of her herb garden. He will not listen to anyone, so they had to take legal action. What is this yummy looking orange cake? I love your little watering can. I always want everything you buy! Where did you get it? Home Goods is the best place to buy mugs, and most are under $5.00. The pic of Mia is so perfect and summery. I have heard that when deer come into yards, they are hungry and looking for food. It may be scarce in the woods where they live.

Tengo una secadora que ahora en verano no utilizo. Prefiero ya que estamos en verano secarla al sol en mi azotea.
Feliz semana.

Sounds like you have wonderful neighbors :) your window makes a great blind to take photos of this beautiful deer. I feel the car is good too, just as long as we can stop safely. Gorgeous photos! That is a great birthday meal for Nel ( and your yummy cake further down). A sweet memory she and Mia will have of their trips to the beach. I love your sanctuary is a home picture. Your home is beautiful and I enjoyed looking at all your collectibles. For the most part we have had good neighbors around us. For a few years we did have unpleasant ones but they left and a lovely family moved in afterwards.

My favorite part or thought was your meme - Your home is your sanctuary, especially the part where it is your escape. That is something I would love.
Glad you got your dryer fixed - I have never heard of coils.
The deer there are just awesome, and they look safe and protected. Here they just get hurt and killed - we have no room for them anymore.
Happy birthday Nel - I like you do not like fish! They looked like they had a great time at the beach. I love chocolate ganache. Mia looked happy too.
Was that strawberry cake? How do you deep fry the quesadillas?
I love the watering can.
Nice to have a place to check wildfires too.
We have had some wonderful neighbors in our lifetimes.
Now we really don't know any of them. Very private.
And I love that chihuahua - we had one once and loved him to death and he did bark!

Hi Sheri,
I think I told you about our deer we raised. He was extra special. Then one day he was off with the call of nature. We saw him several times over the years, but never came home to stay. I also gave all my teacup away to my daughter. I kept special ones for tea parties with my granddaughter and soon Charlotte will be old enough for a tea party. AI also fry my taco shells. I make my own from scratch. As far as neighbors go, my brother lives next door-ish. Only neighbor close. My Dad lived down the road until he passed. So I have been very lucky. Before we moved here our neighbors were sketchy. Another reason to move. It was very smoky here the last couple of days. I am ready for Fall. My terrier barks at everything. Lucky no one cares where we live😁
