Mountain Airport

I'm going to tell you all about my trip to So Cal, but I wanted to share my airport journey, as it was an experience in itself.  It was my first time at this airport, so I got there early (maybe a bit too early), but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss my flight.  I will call this the mountain airport, and although it's not in the mountains, it's only about 50 minutes from it.  It was very different from the city airports I've been in.  When I first arrived, there was hardly any people in there.  It had the various airline check-ins and it was very organized and clean, and the airport staff was friendly.  They had framed paintings on the wall from a local artist, and have you ever seen a quilt displayed on the wall of an airport?  It was huge, and so pretty.

Because I was early, I stepped outside for some fresh air and noticed the parking lot was filled.  There weren't too many people in the airport, so I wondered why it was full.  They were all going to the Chinese restaurant on the top floor of the airport.  I was told it's the best in town, so I decided to try it.  Instead of staying inside the restaurant or a stuffy airport, I found a shady tree outside and ate my food.  It was so good, and I must go back there sometime this Fall.

My flight was delayed, so I had to stay at the airport even longer - it was a long day.  It was time to fly, and I've never flown at night before.  I had a window seat both times.   The skies were dazzling.   Off we go!

It always amazes me that it only takes an hour to get from one end of California to the other.  When I stepped outside from the city airport, there were lights, and cars zipping around picking up their loved ones, and don't get me started on the traffic haha.  But it was also a smaller airport and pretty clean.  It was so good of Renecke to pick me up, as it was very late at night.  Brian offered also, but this worked out better for all.  My son-in-laws are the best.

The next morning Mia woke me up bright and early and was so excited to see me.  She said to her mom, "look who's here!" as if I just snuck in at the middle of the night.  It was the cutest thing.  I will show you Mia's birthday next time, and all the creative ideas that Nel had for her special day.

Nel drove me back to the airport when my trip was over, and how she managed to see in that 4:00 am traffic is beyond me.  I was fortunate that I had a pleasant flight with no problems, and now that I'm familiar with the mountain airport, it's going to be easier for me to fly in the future.

It was so good to see my girls again.

I didn't get to see my Francesca on this trip because she was sick with a bad cold.  She started school already, and once they start school, these bugs pass from one child to the next.

You are a good writer. I enjoy your posts.
Glad you were able to find an airport you liked out there in CA. I have been there many times in my life and it is amazing out there - but people do get used to it.
That quilt is gorgeous - I love the color - maybe they were showing off a local artist.
Your pink bag was beautiful.
I bet your girls were so glad to see you - beautiful family.
Hope Francesca is feeling better. The start of school is rough.
That tree was pretty too!
Lovely.

I love small airports, Sheri! That is a beautiful quilt in the mountain airport. And the yummy Chinese food too surely made it a pleasant start to your trip. It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday visit. So sorry Francesca had a cold and couldn't be with you on your visit. Have a happy week!

Hi Sheri,
Our Eau Claire airport sounds like your Mountain Airport, Sam has flown out of the Eau Claire airport a few times, we too have to get there early. It is small, but very clean, uniquely decorated with local artists art and crafts. It also has a nice restaurant.
Looking forward to hearing more about your trip.

What a gorgeous photo of the girls! I am so glad you made this airport post separate! Because it really does deserve it's own post. What a cool experience! The purple quilt is gorgeous, wonder how they acquired it? And what a find the restaraunt was! Your photos from inside the plane are stunning!!

So glad you got to fly home to see the girls and son in laws! Is that around San Diego? One hour from one end to the other is amazing. It amazes me that I can make that flight in four hours when to drive it, its a total of 33 hours. I would love to drive it once, maybe me and my daughter or a friend. Stopping along the way to see things and then drive back. Like your one daughter did. I would love that. Looks like you had a great visit.

Sounds like you had a great trip. The quilt is beautiful on the wall. It is so nice to fly. So much faster if you can deal with the stress of flying. It is nice they have that flight available. I hope Francesca feels better! School = germs. (-: I swear my granddaughter was sick all year with one thing of another! Ughhhhhh. I am hoping this will be a sick free year!

What a delightful lunch sitting under the tree in the shade. Perfect place! Thank you for visiting me. I would be very happy for you to use the quote. In fact if you see any of the quotes that you like, please go ahead and use them. Happy Tuesday!

Such fun to be able to visit your family! They are all lovely! While I am not a fan of flying, sometimes that’s the best option. The airport in my area isn’t a large one. Usually it just gets travelers out of town to a connecting airport where it’s possible to fly to larger cities.

Hello dear Sheri! I am so glad to hear you traveled to see your family! One hour isn't bad to travel from one end to another in the large state of California! What a nice "mountain airport" that has a great Chinese restaurant! It looks like you had a nice picnic before you took off.

Well my friend, enjoy the tail end of summer. Though it's still very warm during the day, our mornings and evenings are getting cooler and it's been so lovely. Enjoy!

It's the best ever to spend time with family. That airport looks so charming. If you have to wait for a delayed flight at least it was i a wonderful airport.

That is a pretty quilt to be hanging at an airport! I'm glad you had a safe trip. I used to like visiting the airport for fun back before you had to go through TSA. It was fun watching the planes take off. Now I don't like flying or airports at all!
