California Fires

Before I show you some pictures of home, I wanted to tell you that there are lots of fires going on in northern California right now.  Some are far from me, and some are closer.  Some of the fires have been contained, but some are raging out of control.  It's so scary, but we have our CAL FIRE firefighters working continuously, and they are amazing.  Yesterday, when I went outside in the evening, the sky looked so strange.  The winds have shifted here and there from the fires, and I was looking at a hazy and pink sky.

I love home and everything about it.  I love to decorate, especially with the holidays, and it seems that if I'm living in a big two-story house or a small cottage-style house, I still find ways to make my home cozy.  My favorite sausage is the original Jimmy Deans, and I have it with eggs, plain sandwiches, and even add it to my spaghetti, which is really good.  When my brother painted the rooms in this house, he found all the right colors.  Part of my dining room he left the walls unpainted cause it was the original pine paneling that you see in the cabins, and it looks nice.  But my bathroom he painted white, which I think was a good choice, because I like the look of a clean and light bathroom.  I added the color 'blush' in there, and found a blush shower rug, and added a picture that Jess gave me and a seashell I've had since I was a little girl.  It's very minimal decorating, but that's me.  My neighbor brought over some cucumbers and squash from her garden, and says there's more to come.  There's nothing like veggies from a garden.

While the skies are hazy from the smoke, I will keep praying and have pleasant thoughts.  Won't you pray with me?

The sky looks grey here. Like it is going to rain. Don't we all wish?
Everyone has their own way of decorating their home. That is what makes it perfect. I am glad you are enjoying yours. The fires have been terrible this year and put a damper on my outside fun. I hope we all get rain soon here in CA. I miss the blue sky!

I have the same Waterhouse painting in my bedroom. I have the Lady of Shallot and a few that I like to go with it by Waterhouse. I hope they get the fires under control...it is such a terrible worry right now. Take care and stay safe!

The sky looked gray, but that pink sun was gorgeous! So you put sausage in pasta?
Oh those cucumbers look so good.
Cookies with chocolate looked good too.
I like white too for a bathroom and I love the blush you added.
Your home is just lovely.
I put candles like that everywhere but I use the flameless ones.
Have a good week, sandie

Your photos of the sun are absolutely gorgeous, but is is so sad that the reason is the fires. I love your blue & white china. Back in the day when I was growing up, it was called Willow Ware. Wow, you caught the hummer in mid-air! I will pray that the fires do not come any nearer your home.

Sheri, I love your photos of the pink sun, but I am concerned for you my friend. I will keep you in my prayers that the fires will be contained!
The Waterhouse painting of the Soul of the Rose is lovely. It is so appropriate for you! I'm so glad you are enjoying your new home. Your neighbors are so kind to share their garden with you. There is nothing like fresh vegetables this time of year. Take care!

Those fires all over CA and OR are just horrible. Last weekend we had lots of haze from CA drift into our state. The setting sun was beautiful, but it was beautiful because of the fires unfortunately. This week we got lots of rain and it cleared out all the haze. I wish for CA and OR some rain. I will pray for you and of course everyone in the path of these fires including the firefighters and animals. Stay safe!

Oh, yes I will pray with you for California. It is frightening to see the pink sky and the red sun indicating the nearness of the fires. May you be safe in your mountain retreat. Your cozy touches are a delight to see. I very much like that little round table with the bird on a branch. You have been baking some delicious treats too. Hi to the dear Hummingbird!

Dearest Sheri,

Good morning. The fires...I don't know what to think or say about what have been increasing year after year. It seems as if this pattern of yearly wildfires continues, it will effect all of us as it as this year. For about 7-8 days here in Minnesota, our skies were so thick with particulates from the smoke that we could not go outside. Even in the house my eyes were irritated and the cough I had still lingers. I pray for everyone's safety and you are right. All we can do is pray but we can also act. I hope that those with the power to make a change will do so.

Hi Sheri, I have been hearing all about those awful fires out your way. I hope that they will be contained soon. Totally devastating for so many. Those firefighters, all firefighters, are true heroes. We are very familiar with Jimmy Dean in this house :) Love your decorating style with all the decorative touches. Looks like your brother did a great job on painting too. Very enjoyable photos and now I want some Jimmy Dean sausage, it's on the list ;)

I'm just thrilled you are still loving your home and reveling in the decorating and adding all your own personal touches. I loved every photograph you shared!

The fires are very frightening -- I hope you have an evacuation kit packed and never need to use it. Every night I hope they will get these under control. Please take care of your breathing during this.

My heart aches for those living with the fires raging all around. It has to be a scary thing to deal with. MY prayers are with you and all the ones affected.
We never know what a day will bring. I am thankful for the brave firefighters facing this head-on and praying for them too.
All the pictures are beautiful, and you have a beautiful home...with so many pretty things. I really love the pink sky and big picture on the wall!
Praying you and all around you have a beautiful and safe night. Maybe tomorrow will bring relief.

Teachers have a huge job especially in todays world. The heat has been brutal and I look forward to cooler temps. But then I know the snow will not be far behind. Your phoots are so lovely. The flowers too. Thank you for sharing.

It amazes me that with all the fires Calif has every yr that everything is not charred. I saw some of it about six yrs ago while riding around in Julianne. I saw some fires from a distance and then I saw charred remains of trees and mountain sides up close. Breaks my heart. Fires can destroy so much and its so hard to escape from them, esp when the wind shifts and changes course. Love your pics. You need to do pics of all your rooms to show us your decor! Stay safe lady.

Oh Sheri, such lovely photos. I do worry about you there in Northern Cal with all the fires. Do you know that some of the smoke has traveled cross-country and we even see some of it here in western Massachusetts? Unbelievable. It's been quite hot and humid here with lots of rain and tons more on the way. Hurricane season even has an impact in New England. Lovely post, Sheri. Hugs, Susan p.s. PLEASE stay safe!

Sheri, I'm so sorry to hear about the on-going fires in California. Out here in the Midwest, we've had the smoke from out west come over our skies and it looks so daunting the way it covers the sun. We are blessed, though, that we don't have the fear of fires with them. I will be praying for you and your family and friends out there.

Your home looks so lovely. By the way, I think I can almost smell those sausages cooking and hear that sizzle! Yummy! :)

Blessings on your day... be safe! Net

I hope bushfire season is over for you soon and the fires can be put out! It's scary seeing the red sun - we are starting to see that regularly in the summer months here even though most fires are far away from us as the smoke just fills the sky. It makes me so uneasy even though I know we are safe and we have a bushfire plan if things did get close.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend :) I had a fun night out with friends yesterday!
