Kentucky Derby

I haven't been able to post for a while because this past semester has been sooooo busy with teaching, baby care, and planning for our cross-country move...Oh! Did I mention? Our little family is moving back to Cali!

Georgia has treated us so sweet, but now that we have the baby, we want to be close to our families. So, this will be our last spring in Georgia, and that means our last Kentucky Derby in the south.

I just love the Derby, and we're actually planning a family trip to the races when Mia's a little bit older. In the meantime, we'll be celebrating from home.

We got all dressed up in our Derby best. And hooray! Daddy's horse won!

We celebrated the win with some home-cooked shrimp etouffee and blackened catfish (recipe courtesy of the New Orleans Gumbo Shop).

And you can't have a Derby Day without a mint julep.

Cheers, friends!

Nel, this looks like fun. And that was nice of all of you to dress up for the occasion. Love the pics of Mia. That shrimp dish and drinks look amazing. I was just telling your brother I can't wait to get some of your homemade cooking when you move back hehehe. ~mom

Great post....living here in the south (Tennessee) most of my life although I was born in Calif., I have never been to the Derby and I have never had a mint julep. What am I doing wrong? haha....I prefer my SWEET TEA under the big oak tree, okay I will settle for on the deck. Loving that you get all dressed up and you look so pretty with the long dark hair and the hat. I know mom is glad you are moving back home and I really hope that you enjoyed your stay in the South and rec'd some great southern charm.

I have never watched horse races in person. The sound of horse dashing must be exciting.
