Many of you know I love the ladybug,
but I never told you why it's so special to me.
Whenever I see one, I think of our Mother Mary.
(This is my garden at the old house).
but I never told you why it's so special to me.
Whenever I see one, I think of our Mother Mary.
(This is my garden at the old house).
Originally, it is said that in the Middle Ages, farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary for help to save their crops from a plague of harmful pests. A swarm of ladybugs came, ate up the pests and saved the day. Thus, they became known as the "Beetle of Our Lady" or Lady Beetles. ~Wild Gratitude
When I create a fairy garden for my grandkids someday, I want to surround it with a dozen ladybugs.
"When I was a little girl, I used to spend hours looking for ladybugs. Finally, I'd just give up and fall asleep in the grass. When I woke up, they were crawling all over me."
~Katherine, Under the Tuscan Sun
There is a big garden of yellow roses in front of the church, and it was only when I downloaded the picture that I noticed a ladybug underneath the petal of the rose.
So, now that you know what the ladybug means to me, you can imagine how surprised I was when my son brought me these small cakes from the grocery store one day. Their chocolaty goodness was so moist and Yummy.
Seen any ladybugs lately?

I love lady birds, they are beautiful and always a welcome anywhere! So lovely to hear from you over on my blog, we must visit more often xxxxx
I love ladybugs too but I never knew the story so thank you so much for sharing that. Those cakes are especially darling!
What a fun story, I had no idea. What other wisdom am I missing?? I like lady bugs, I knew they were protectors of roses but to see one on that beautiful yellow rose, is a special.

Hi,
I had no idea about the story regarding the Lady Bug. I enjoyed that Sheri, thank you for sharing. As a gardener, lady bugs are so important to us. I too have small glass lady bugs in my fairy garden.
Love, Carla
Oh, how wonderful writing and pictures!
I love all the neon colors of lady bugs. I had never heard that story. The cakes your son brought you are adorable.
I used to love to catch lady bugs when I was younger. Now I only like to see them. I keep my distance because one time I had one crawl under my leg while I was sitting and it bit me (or burned me). It felt like fire and left a whelp on my leg. I flicked it off and never been a friend since. But they are pretty.

I had never heard that story about Mary!
Hi Sheri, I loved the stories of the ladybug. We would let them crawl on us, but not many other kinds of bugs. LOL. Blessings to you sweet girl, love you, xoxo, Susie
I had never heard that story either. Interesting how things start up. We have had a couple lady bugs in our house and not sure how they get in. We safely put them outside. Wonder why we like them so much and not other bugs.
Love, sandie
I just saw one the other day and mentioned to whoever I was with that I saw it. There is a difference between them and those Japanese beetles. I saw a pic the other day of which one looks like whatever one but I can't remember what was what. HAHA....are you following that silly comment? I used to look for them also but then again I used to hunt rolly pollies too. I love the little bugs like that.
We see lady bugs here in the yard. I remember my Mom had a lady bug Christmas ornament.
Those roses are so pretty. I bet they smell so sweet.
The cakes from your son were a thoughtful gift.
xoxo
Your post is super cute!Hugs!
Sheri, I had never heard the story about ladybugs and Mary. Such a lovely one. I love ladybugs like you do! I love the darling cakes your son bought. They are darling! And your pretty candy dish is perfect. The yellow rose with the ladybug hiding under the petal is beautiful. Ladybugs really are great to have in the garden as they eat aphids who love roses and other flowers. Have a nice week.
what a lovely history for the ladybug. i love them too.
You know, Ladybugs are the only bug I can tolerate to be near! There is something intensely charming about them, and they seem so gentle and kind! I had no knowledge of the story behind the Ladybug and La Vierge (The Virgin Mary) but how gentle of a story...
I love stories about our Mother Mary, but I didn't know about that! So interesting☺ The cake looks great☺☺
What a lovely story Sheri! Your son is so thoughtful to get you the lady bug cakes! They're so cute! Remember you mentioned about getting a picture of Lake Murray at sunset? I finally took the perfect picture at sunset the other day! I had to share it in my post! Wishing you a wonderful week my friend!
oh yes i love ladybugs too. so pretty. and they bring good luck with them. cheers sherry
Such a lovely post, dear Sheri!
I hadn't heard that interesting story either. The chocolate cakes look fabulous.
Our lady beetles are still sleeping, I believe. And it's good because more snow is expected in the next two days. Oh no! But I have seen some of them, in a salad I made inspired by Jan's post: http://thelowcarbdiabetic.blogspot.com/2019/04/have-you-seen-lady-bird-bug-caprese.html
Wishing you wonderful spring days! xx
What a cute post, Sheri. I like lady-bugs, too. There are those awful Asian Beetles that look like ladybugs but do damage rather than good. We had an outbreak of them here a couple of years ago.
When I was a kid I was fascinated by ladybugs...and how sweet of your son to bring you ladybug cakes! xo Diana
Sheri - I enjoy seeing Lady Bugs too. Your chocolate yummies look like the best kind too. Have a happy first day of May. Hugs!
I never knew the story of how they were named, Sheri. Love that. I always considered it good luck to find one, though! The little cakes are so cute. One of my favorite movies - 'Under the Tuscan Sun'. I could watch it over and over and over again. Sending hugs xo Karen
I love the Lady Bug, so pretty.
A lovely ladybug post … and as Sara said in her comment above you can also make a ladybug salad http://thelowcarbdiabetic.blogspot.com/2019/04/have-you-seen-lady-bird-bug-caprese.html
All the best Jan
I haven't seen a ladybug yet, but seen a mosquito today! I could eat one of those ladybugs!

I like ladybugs also..it's those orange bugs I don't care for. They fill up my camper ever spring and are hard as heck to get out. The little cakes look delicious! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Your ladybugs and flowers
look so lovely.
Your photos look amazing
and so charming.
I love how you make these
simple creatures look so good,
I do not care about ladybugs that much
but your photos made me love them more.
Have a great week.

No...i have seen a ladybug for a long time now...i love them too ...mmmmm That cakes are yammie and lovely happy week love Ria 🍀💚🍀💚🐞🐞🐞
What a sweet post. I rarely see ladybugs, but always enjoy when I do. I never knew the story of how they got their name - The Beetle of Our Lady, but always knew they are the 'good guys' of nature. My grandson and I have made a Fairy Garden together and we have several Lady Bug ornaments. I will tell him the story too.
I do love ladybugs alot and see them sometimes in the garden. They are always welcomed and they do such a good job. I love your idea of a garden with ladybugs for your little ones too. I have one ceramic toadstool that is painted with ladybug spots on top. It is a place for my grandson to sit in the garden.
sunday found the hubs and i at the local
plant nursery where a ladybug tagged along
using my sweater as a personal carrier. ♥
sheri .. i'm blogging again. :)
