Balance And Harmony

To start the new year, I thought it would be nice to take a drive in the country.  That always rejuvenates me and lets me see the world through a different perspective.  I first stopped at the nursery cafΓ© for a bite to eat.  The special of the day was raisin scones, and it was just the right treat to go along with my coffee.

I'm not sure what these red flowers are, but they looked so pretty surrounded by the barbed wire and thick country grass.

Be soft.  Do not let the world make you hard.  Do not let the pain make you hate.  Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness.  Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.
~Kurt Vonnegut

On my way home, it started to rain.  We have some of the oldest trees in our area.

Later that day, I noticed that someone hung this green ornament from the magnolia tree right near my house.  It wasn't there all season, but only in the new year.

I was looking up what the color green symbolizes, and here are a few notes that I came across...

*The color green relates to balance and harmony.
*Green is directly related to nature and energy.
*The color green has healing power,
and is understood to be the most restful and
relaxing color for the human eye.

Yes, a drive in the country is just what I needed
to start the new year.
I got my balance and harmony back, and
I saw acres and acres of green.

I really love that you do the ride. I enjoy that too but as a new year's thing -- that's really special.

And that ornament is a sweet gem and a reminder to keep Christmas in our hearts the year through.

I love long rides in the country, Sheri. Thank you for taking me along. The cafe looks perfect and the scone even better! I really like Vonnegut's quote. It's so easy to fall into all the negativity these days. The old trees are beautifully silhouetted against the cloudy sky. Wishing you a lovely week ahead, my friend. ♥

I love seeing 'where you live'! And isn't that mermaid gorgeous! I almost chose Balance as my word this year. It's so hard to be balanced when there are so many things pulling you this way and that! I will write your quote in my journal today. It really says what I believe to be true! Hugs, Diane

I enjoyed your ride into the country - I went with you. I like scones and coffee. I read in someone's blog about those flowers - I am pretty sure it was Diana. Not 100% sure tho. All we get is rain as well. I named my daughter Kelly (green) as it is such a relaxing and healing color! sandie

Happy New Year Sheri, and I hope it is a good year for you. What beautiful shades of green - even the Christmas bauble which mysteriously appeared. I bought a new water bottle for walking today, just that shade of pretty green. The cafe is very cute, and I would enjoy being there having coffee and scone with you too.

When I was a little girl, I could not decide which was my favorite color:

Green

or

Blue.

Green was a contender because it felt like velvet under my feet on a hot summer day, freshly mowed by my dad.

Blue was tops because above my head and on the horizon of the ocean, I could dream peaceful thoughts.

Today as an adult, blue makes me dream, green keeps me grounded. What a great balance.

What a lovely post. I sure needed to read this before I posted today. Such tranquility here. I agree the red are beautiful against the fence, and the green is calming. This last picture is breathtaking. How beautiful!

Sheri all your photos look so amazing.
I especially love the raisin sconces, the mermaid and the angel.
The trees and greenery evokes a feeling calmness for me.
I love the quote you shared, 'Be Soft', nowadays there are so
many quotes that encourages people to be strong... but your quote
reminds us that there is virtue in being soft and it is very important
to remind the new generation of it.

Have a great and lovely New Year ♥

Sheri, I always love to see your pictures, especially when you are driving around. You find some pleasing sights. I have been telling myself ...it's 69 days till spring. LOL. Ready for the threat of cold and snow to be gone. We are predicted to have snow this weekend. Of course it would not bother me so much if my Teddy were well and back home. Wishing you a beautiful weekend. Blessings, xoxo, love, Susie
