I have naturally curly hair. When I was little, my hair was straighter with blonde tints, but as I got older, the curls seemed to come along.....and the frizz. Not sure when it happened, but it did. I always admired girls with straight hair. I thought they could do anything with their hair. When I went on dates in high school, I would straighten my hair, and was that ever a treat, because straightening my hair wasn't an easy task. I would get the giant pink rollers out, and my mom would wrap my hair around them, and then I would sit under the vintage dryer for about an hour until my hair was dry. When I got older, I would iron my hair for that extra fine straight look. Oh, it was a chore every time, but worth it. Often, people would compliment me on my naturally curly hair, and I never really understood that, as I always longed for straight hair. Now, as I've gotten older, I only straighten my hair for special occasions, and I just use the curling iron, and for an even straighter look, a real iron. Guess who inherited my curly hair?.....my daughters. Jess' hair is pretty curly, but not too thick, and Nel's hair is not as curly, but very thick. I have come to accept and appreciate this naturally curly hair of mine and embrace what has been given to me. And most of the time during the hot summer months, I just swoop my hair up or put it in a braid.

Love.
Sweet friend, you are so beautiful and I just love your curly hair! I have very thick hair {thanks to my mom} and ever since I had my son, well it's straight...very, very straight. Of course I wish I had curly hair, but tell myself to be content with what I have {{smiles}}
Happy hugs and much love to you!
Sheri, I remember those big rollers. My sister would do her hair in them...then turn around and tease her hair to make that big bubble hairdo. Then spray it with a half can of spray. I just about always went natural...do the ponytail thing...which by the way I still do, most times. I have gotten perms and I would love one now. I would just mousse my hair and style then. LOL I think you should embrace the lovely curly healthy hair. :):) Your little girl pic looks like Nel.So cute. Blessings, xoxo, love , Susie
We seem to always want what we don't have, don't we? I wanted straight hair growing up too. Although my hair wasn't really, really curly, whenever it got humid, it would frizz up and look awful. I longed to have that "perfect flip" as a teen and my hair just wouldn't cooperate! The older I got, the thinner it got and seemed to lose the frizz and was easier for me to style. Today I have what you would call a natural wave but I do use a flat iron to smooth it out after I blow it dry upside down (for volume, you know :)...I have always kept it relatively short since the 4th grade. I have a neighbor who actually rolled her hair on soup cans to straighten it out...LOL! And I agree with Stephanie...you are beautiful!
I remember seeing those big rollers when I was a little girl! I have frizzy hair. I'm constantly looking for hair products that help maintain mositure and control frizz lol.
I have straight fine hair. And, yes I do remember those hair dryers at the Beauty Shop.
I can also remember getting a perm with the big dryer with curling rollers attached that would give you a perm. By the time I got them on I could hardly hold my little head up.
My mother had beautiful auburn hair that laid in waves.m Poor me, I got nothing LOL
Have a great week.
Hugs,
Mary
I have curly hair and also a lot of hair ...
i like youre pictures ..you are a beauty !!!
thats a greek smile ...
hugs ( filakia )
You and Nel both look very cute with curls! I have straight hair with just enough body to turn it under. My boys all have VERY curly hair though. I remember going to bed with big rollers in my hair but during the night I would pull them out and suffer with flat hair in the morning! heeheehee! Hugs!
Sheri, you are darling with straight or curly hair. We always seem to want what we don't have. My Mama used to give us Toni perms when we were little. Now that I'm older my hair has gotten quite curly, especially in the humid summer of VA. Last year I even had a keratin treatment done on my hair and it helped through the humid heat, although I don't think I'll do it again as it's quite expensive. I still put large Velcro rollers in my hair to try and straighten it some. I do put it in a pony to keep it under control. Love this post, dear one. Have a great afternoon. ♥
With me it's the opposite: thin, straight, silky hair. I've always dreamt of curls, and at times had a perm done. Now, I'm at the age when I'm grateful for what I have and 'go natural' in everything. In this way I save money and time that are used for more important things.
Your braid is Something...and your face that of a greek goddess.
I've accepted my curly hair too, Sheri. But I remember the years of pink rollers and hair dryers you sat under. Never did iron mine and had my first experience of it being hot ironed at a salon last week. Now I know what the love of them is all about--I couldn't believe my straight silky hair. I didn't wash it for 3 days trying to keep it as long as possible. Then it was back to the curls. With TN summer humidity, why fight it?
I loved this look back! And you are beautiful with curly hair or straight!
You made me smile! My Mother wished I had curly hair and gave me many perms. My little sister got the Shirley Temple do and long dark eye lashes. I liked seeing all the pics of you and your girls.
My hair is so straight--it only holds a curl if it has had a perm. I do envy your curly hair.
i envy your curls. my hair is stringy straight, so boring.
What a lovely pink Hair Styling Set! :)
Have a great Day Sheri <3
Your post have made me realize that a kind of hair tells a family story.
We always want what we don't have! My hair is wavy and thick and I always wanted thin, straight hair! lol
I love your pretty photos.
Oh, do those pink rollers bring back memories!
I have very straight hair, and in the 70s when I was a teen, straight hair was IN. So, I never had to do anything with my hair but wash it and keep it healthy. I girlfriend of mine who had very curly hair used SODA CANS to straighten her long hair!
That pink hair dryer does take me back to my youth...
Sheri, we have the same hair! I did all that too -- giant rollers, hairdryer, iron... you name it! I tried to let it be very long but it just got wide! Now, it's short, curly, wash and wear, and I love it. But boy, when everyone had bone-straight hair in the 70s, down to their elbows, I was so jealous!
Me encanta el rosa , espero que tengas un bendecido dia
Hello Sheri, I remember my mother using hair rolls very similar to the first image.
Good memory.
I take it to thank the visit in the old posts and to say that already has new posting.
Sorry my English is not very good.
Hugs
Janicce.
Hihihih...what a Nice post....no curly hair...but normal half long Brown colored hair ....))....Nice ....picture from you...have a Nice day love Ria x
Oh Sheri, you have lovely curly hair! So does Nel. How fun. Hugs. Susan p.s. The swing set for the fairy garden was, indeed, in a local Big Lots. Guess each store is different. Sorry you couldn't find it. Take care. Hugs. Susan
Lovely to see your photographs.
My hair is naturally straight, but I always have a light perm to make it a little curly!
All the best Jan
Lovely photos, Sheri!
Life is so deeply unfair: some lucky ones have naturally curly hair, and some others don't. :)
Thank you for your comment! Our summer is wonderful at its best... but definitely too short. The typical daytime temperatures range between 20 and 25C (68 - 77F).
Happy June and happy weekend! <3
Funny about how hair does. I had curls when we lived in Calif. Curls all over my head, a little bit of living in Tn and it went straight. I have lived with straight hair all my life. Paid good money for perms and body waves. Now....I have a natural wave that has appeared in the last couple of years! HAHA...whats up with that? It is thin and getting thinner by the day according the the shower and my brush. Went from having really dark hair to gray! I used to hit the bottle at least every 3 weeks (dye)....but in 2008 I stopped doing that and was surprised when the gray grew out as to how much there was. No frizzy look here.
What a fun post -- I have slightly wavy hair. Not curly enough to just let dry and look nice. Not straight enough to do nothing to it either. I remember those rollers and laying my hair down on the ironing board and ironing it. My mom had that same hair dryer I'm sure!
Naturally Curly hair, that can give me a headache at times. ;-) Like you, I have learned to be happy with my hair. When it is humid, which is almost every summer day in Wisconsin, I feel like wearing a hat everyday. ;-) Ha, no hair spray in the world can hold my hair down.
A fun post ... thank you.
Carla
