A Familiar Song

Me and Jess went to an Italian restaurant when she came in.  Now, this restaurant isn't a chain, it's an authentic place with treasured photos on the walls, one of a sweet wedding couple, good food, and a singer who sings Italian songs and old classics.

We were talking about things while eating and listening to the music, and I told her stories of my father, her grandfather.  Jess was only 4 years old when her grandpa passed away, so she didn't really know him well.  I was telling her a story about one of the funky things he used to do, when shortly after the singer started to sing a tune which reminds me of my dad.   Right away, I felt him with me once again.

I love the old classics, and some of my family likes them as well, others not so much.  How 'bout you - do you like listening to these wonderful songs of the past?

So Thankful For My Family

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.  Ours was wonderful.  Jess and her new husband made the dinner this year, and it was just delicious.  We drove to Jess' house early in the morning, about 5:00 am to avoid the traffic.  We saw the sunrise come up, which was so pretty.  As we got closer to her house, the mountains surround her area.  Jess lives about 5 minutes from the ocean, so we had to stop there first, as I was longing to see it.  When we got to her house, there was appetizers waiting for us.  She made so many yummy goodies.  I love to look all around at my girls' homes because they really reflect who they are.  Jess' home is a combination of so many things.  She has french vintage in the bathroom, a bit of rustic feel in the great room, and personal touches all throughout.  She had the most unique orchids sitting on her table.  She used her wedding china for the table setting, which was lovely, and she opened a bottle of pinot grigio for the drink.  She thought the woman on the bottle looked like me.  ; )  Her and Brian made so many dishes, and in addition to the traditional foods like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries, yams, they also made macaroni and gouda cheese and a green bean casserole.  I think that may have been my favorite side dish.  Afterwards, we played games, and while I was doing dishes, I heard them laughing about a particular game that Jess got from one of her classmates.  It was such a wonderful day being with family, and I thank Jess and Brian for making it so special for us.  She's getting to be quite a good cook.

Turkeys Everywhere

I see wild turkeys
around here all the time.

White ones.
Are the light ones the
younger turkeys?

One after another
they walk the trails.

This one looks old.

A young curious one.

And just a pretty one.

I hope you have a very nice
Thanksgiving,
and eat lots of good food.

Deck The Home With Lots Of Jolly

I love Christmas,
so I have already decorated
a bit around my house.

I collect snow globes.
Jess gave me the one on the right.

This candle smells so good.

I've always loved red plaid.
Found this cup at Hobby Lobby,
and it was half off.

I'm starting to collect these
frosty people.
I hope to have a small village
of them someday.

A little silver and white
here and there.

This nutcracker matches
my blue couches.

My whimsical corner.

I like this snow-covered rose
because it doesn't ever
snow here, and I often wonder,
Will I ever have a white Christmas?
sigh...

I always put Santa's hat on
 humble girl.
The world has much pride,
and she reminds me
to try and stay humble.

As you can see,
my Christmas décor is
a little bit of everything.  And I
think that's what
decorating is all about -
putting out the things we love.

Wishing you a warm and cozy weekend.
