It started out looking
so regal.
Then, he got a strong
urge to itch.

He scratched this way,
Aahh, he felt so much
better after that.
better after that.
*The mourning doves are so pretty around here. Here's a tidbit about me. My dad used to go dove hunting when I was little, and after he came home with the doves that day, my mom would cook them that night for dinner. I never liked the taste much, but my dad always made us try everything. When I see these beautiful doves around here, I am reminded of what peaceful birds they are. They always let me take pictures of them, and don't scare easily. They are one of my favorite birds.

Love.
How nice that he stayed put while you took these great pics! Enjoy your day sweet friend. (my Daddy hunted too...glad I don't have to eat things like wild animals and birds now. lol) Hugs, Diane
Your dove looks so cute preening himself, Sheri. We have doves as well and I love the cooing sounds they make. We always laugh when they fly away--it sounds like their wings are squeaking. Enjoy the beauty around you today! ♥
Oh Sheri, I love the sound of the mourning doves. So appropriately named, too. And I'm glad you are enjoying coloring. Such fun! The fairy coloring book looks lovely. Imagine some of those framed for a little child's bedroom! Thanks for your sweet visits to my posts, too. Love to see you have stopped by. Susan
Sheri, We have dove visitors all the time too! They love nesting under our patio cover in one of our
staghorn ferns. I love hearing their call, so peaceful!
Hugs, Jody
Cute :)
Have a great day Sheri, lovely Greetings <3
I love their sound in the mornings and evenings! Your pictures are lovely!
Sheri, Your story reminded me of daddy. He hit a covey of quail on his way to work one morning, brought them home and cleaned them ...then went on to work. He let them soak in salt water the whole day. We had them for supper. Of course hungry kids did not fuss much when it came to food. I love to watch our doves here and listen to them. I think they are a pretty bird. Blessings, xoxo, love, Susie
My half sister used to keep them as pets, and I remember their song when I visited her house....my mother, who lived on a farm in Mexico for a year as a teen used to cook and eat PIGEON soup...I never liked the prospect of that!
I agree; these birds are so gentle and amazing to watch. I just watched a blue jay this morning sharpening his beak on my flower planter!
Hugs to you dear one. Anita
Hi Sheri, oh you captured the pretties shots of the mourning dove. What a beauty. We have them here too and have several feeders in the yard to take care of them. Two came to visit right after both my parents passed away and they seem to have stayed ever since. They are one of mine and my hubbies favorites too. Thank you for stopping by and your sweet visit. Wishing you a nice weekend. Blessings and Love, xo
Fabulous photos, Sheri. Great details and a beautiful bird!
I'm so excited -- a little bird is building its nest in my birdhouse! I'm trying to capture bringing in the twigs but she's too fast for me! Babies soon, I hope!
Beautiful photos. We have a lot of morning doves as well and i just love them so much. I've never ate one before. Hugs and love, xo
Great pictures. I love the doves too..they sit on the wires in front of our house all the time.I also know how the one scratching feels.I have had a rash..like poison ivy...scratching feels really good!
How charming you captured this pretty bird scratching an itch. Such sweet birds. I can not imagine eating one? But I know folks who raised bunny rabbits to eat. food is food. A fascinating story to be sure.
PS) I've had duck, quail and goose. Wonder how the dove compares in taste?
I heard that dove is synonymous to peace and I agree with that. And here is your post mentioning it again, by looking at your photos they really look beautiful and serene creatures. Nice pics, they are sharp and clear.

They are sweet, aren't they, Sheri. They are often called love birds, and they tend to always look compassionate and peaceful.
Morning Doves are one thing... :-)
But Pigeons are a whole other thing... :-((((

Love your dove pictures Sheri, I agree, they are beautiful and I enjoy watching them feed in my garden.
My dad also went dove hunting and like you, I didn't like them much… ha ha.
Enjoy your day Sheri!
Great pictures. One day soon I will post my Dove Love story of Frida & Diego (a pair of my yard doves)I caught them kissing on camera.
You managed to get some lovely photo's of this dove Sheri, it looks such a beautiful bird doesn't it.
All the best Jan
They're one of my favorites too, Sheri, and you caught this one so beautifully. I haven't seen any mourning doves here in NE Florida, but we now have big crows which "caw" loudly early every morning like roosters!
Love to hear them and they are such pretty birds!
Dear Sheri,
Love the photos of the sweet doves and yes, she was posing for you. We have some doves down in the bush near us and they often coo away early in the morning.
Happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn
Such a cute bird! Birds are fun to watch. My daughter has a parakeet. It is amazing the personality packed into such a small bird. I often wonder about the personalities of the wild birds when I watch them. I think this one might be getting ready for a date. :)
Oh, I love mourning doves. I love their cooing sounds, and they seem so kind to me. I agree that they are very cooperative in front of a camera. I took pictures of my husband feeding one when we stayed at the Keys a few years back. Thank you for sharing these pretty pictures with us, and thank you for your words of encouragement.
xoxo
Hi,
They are one of my favorite bids too. I love how they coo by my bedroom window. :-)
