Somewhere Far Away

I went out to a New Year's breakfast with my son.

(this is a picture of a breakfast we had for dinner one night).

We talked about many things - the family, traveling, and some of the places we'd love to visit someday.  He said, "New York," and I replied, "Yes, New York!"  I've always wanted to go on a girl's trip to New York with my daughters.  My son is very good with Geography, and when asking him where this or that place is, he tells me patiently but sometimes gets a little irritated because I don't know.  What can I say, it wasn't my favorite subject. : )  Speaking of traveling, here's a couple pictures of him that have always been special to me.  He was such a funny little boy.

Do you plan on doing
any traveling
this year?

Good Afternoon Sheri, I am not sure if we will be travelling abroad this year, I think we will probably be holidaying at home. We are thinking of visiting Edinburgh in the Spring time.
Just to say, my daughter has just returned from New York, and she recommended 'Tea and Sympathy' as a brilliant place to stop for a cup of tea. There are small tables, laid with lovely mismatched teacups and saucers and there is such a huge variety of teas to choose from. If you are a tea lover, then this is the place to rest your weary legs when you are sightseeing.
Best Wishes to you.

Sheri, your son is a cutie. I didn't realize you had a son. How nice to have breakfast with him.
We don't have any big travel plans this year, but will go to the beach and will go to Williamsburg...all places close by. We need to do some things around our home that will eat up the travel dollars.
Enjoy your day! ♥

I will most definately take a trip this year. Which reminds me, I have on my to-do list to call the bus tour company and see about scheduling a trip. I am so glad you reminded me. Your grandson is cute... love the one with the suitcase. He's ready to travel.

Sheri, What a beautiful young man. Yes, by all means go to NYC if you get a chance. So much to see and do. I loved that sign post..LOL...wow how many places? I'd like to make one of those for the back garden area. I truly want to go back to DC. and would jump at the chance to go to NYC. If I get any kind of trip this year...I may plan it with my daughter. It's nice to meet your son!
Geography was one of my favorite subjects in school. It's a shame that they do not teach it any longer as it seems to have been lightly woven into the concept of "social studies".

We will likely stay local, with a visit to our time share at Whistler, BC and jaunts to the Portland area, Boise (where Jay & Camille live), and Eastern Washington. Not sure if Camille and Jay's wedding will be this summer or next. Camille is busy working and studying for her teaching exam on Saturday. Once that is behind her, she will start checking on the availability of the church and places for their reception.

Happy New Year to you and your lovely family, Sheri!

Sheri,
What precious pictures of your son. I've got to admit, breakfast is always special in our house and one of my favorite meals. Weekends we linger over eggs and conversation in PJs and laughter. We make time for lingering and sharing. Travel this year - lots planned and I hope it all materializes. Ya know good health, endurance and threats of those who want to destroy our inner peace, OK here goes ... Besides New York, CT and DC a hop and skip away we are flying to California for a fast paced visit, of course Florida (brother and also Grand and step Grand) a return visit to the Netherlands (Citroën car gathering from all over the world) and then a day and a half stay in Hamburg Germany to meet a dear blogger friend. Very late fall 2016 perhaps Venice ... But before you think I'm a spoiled brat, I'm not, its just that my Dads comments of a decade ago has finally resonated in my heart and head. He would say "Vera it's later than you think, it's now or never). A few health issues for me and the realization we have worked hard and saved makes us realize my Dad was right and its later than you think. Live fully, laugh often, enjoy and respect each other and have adventures as you explore and learn but most important of all share.

Last year I started a policy, OK perhaps more of a belief, a pay it forward, if you can pamper yourself and purchase new things for self enjoyment in exchange for everyone thing entering into your home pay it back by donating to a charitable organization. I support Restor (Habitat for Humanity) and Goodwill. I feel good, people benefit and my house which is not large and hasn't great storage space because it's 90 years old remains uncluttered and echoes good intentions.

Sheri I am sorry about the long winded comment but I am in a sharing mood and yes it's later than you think. Time waits for no one and marches on. I do not know your plans for 2016 but I wish you love and many memorable enjoyed adventures,
xoxo,
Vera

Lovely pictures Sheri ... thank you for sharing.
We haven't made any plans so far, we will wait and see what 2016 brings, although I'm sure it will involve a visit to the Lake District, a part of the UK we really enjoy.

Hope this first week of 2016 is going well

All the best Jan

Dear Sheri,
The photos of your son gave me the biggest smile! What a handsome young man.
Breakfast is my favorite meal.. I think what I love most about it is the smell of bacon, fresh coffee and the company of family gathered around...

I would love to travel this year... I don't know if it will be possible, but if I could would love to visit New York.. Never been... My grandchild will be traveling to New York in March. She has been saving for some time.

Blessings to you dear friend, and thank you for the sweet share of photos.

first.. your son's yesteryear picture is darling. how wonderful to be close to him. :) and ... much of our travel is done in california (northern) using our vintage trailer (55 boles aero) that we restored. we scout around with a gathering of like minded folks, enjoy good food, and great fellowship. last year found me in florida visiting my elderly father, SoCal visiting my elderly mother (a number of times), and to the coast and mountains. this year is more of the same but my hubby and i are hoping for a major road trip in the autumn - to a few states nearby.

i love vee's comment::: **We make time for lingering and sharing**

Hello Sheri. How nice you went out to breakfast with your son. New York is an exciting city but definitely for the younger set. I used to love the adventure and excitement. Now it's a bit more intimidating. Hope your new year brings wonderful times for you! Susan

Hi Sheri, what cute photos of your little guy! Yes, we are planning a big trip for 2016, over to Ireland for our son's wedding in September. Meantime, we are currently on a road trip to spend time with him in Sydney, taking our time travelling in our wide brown land (which is currently being inundated with heavy rain :) xx

Oh my goodness....does your heart skip a beat when you see these photos?MINE DID! A son....don't get me wrong; having girls is fun. WEll, I've never had children of my own, but all I can say is that having boys around you is quite the experience and as a teacher, I always loved the differences in how boys see things. What a joy it would be to travel with your SON! Oh Sheri, I hope your dreams come true to travel. As for me, I'd love to get back to France and ENGLAND but with the problems in the world right now, I'm not keen on traveling this year. So for us, we may take a little four hour trip to Duluth this summer for I hear that the lake is huge, beautiful, and I would like to see it.

Sending you much love your way! Anita

Good morning Sheri! So glad I made it over here today to see those pictures of your son as a (precocious) child ;). Tell me...did the young lady he was proposing to say yes? Lol

For me, 2016 will be a year for a fair amount of travel. We are currently in Florida, and will be for three months in different areas, in May we are going to Singapore with a side trip to Cambodia as well. We will probably take the majority of the summer off to enjoy the lake community in which we live, then I hope to go to Michigan, but that's not definite at all.

I've been to Europe a couple of time, but would like to return for an extended trip to Italy and maybe Greece. So many places...so little time (and moolah!!).

He was so handsome. Maybe he gets mad with those pictures you published and let us see how much further he went on the Gorgeous-meter ahahahahahah
Now, that's a subject we don't talk much. Me and my children. Because we all have so different tastes in what we like to see and enjoy. It was funny when on Christmas Night Dear Son opened a gift from his gf and it was an enormous book with 540 (or something that huge) places to visit. And she had already starting the first hundreds and the book had colorful post-its signalling her suggestions ahahahah I thought it was a lovely gift. A very interesting one that suggest she's in for the furute so my mother-romantic-heart soared ahahahah.
Dear Daughter is beach beach beach and doing nothing at all...
Dear Son is a bit of gypsy - he arrives, sees what he wants and then he's off into the road...
I like to get lost. I want to see the landmarks but I also want to get lost and find out what's after that corner, in that avenue I saw from somewhere... running errands.
Dear Husband tries not to loose his family members in a foreign land ahahahahah. I guess he goes where we like and enjoy every bit.
I hope all is well with you and before I run havoc with my long comment I stopped by to wish you a Happy New Year Full of Success and Joy.
Love you dearly,
Teresa

Happy New Year! I know exactly how it feels to spend time over meals with your son... I feel the same way. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I am actually trying to decide NYC this fall or a dog show that same weekend... not sure yet which I will decide on, but I have plenty of time. I hope you enjoyed your 12 days of Christmas! Wishing you the best in 2016.

He was a darling little boy, and I'm sure he still is! And isn't it fun to have one adult child to yourself for a short time every once in a while? My own firstborn fell and hurt his leg today, went to the ER fearing it was broken. Thank God it wasn't but now we're hoping no muscle damage.

My travel plan is to simply make time to go to FL where 2 sisters and a daughter live and where my mother is in a nursing home. Even that takes a lot of scheduling work. I am far too much a homebody now. I tell my kids, "travel when you're young, don't wait until you're my age."

A blessed 2016 to you, Sheri,
Dewena

A new year's breakfast with your son, how perfectly delicious.
AJ and her groom actually traveled to NYC for their honeymoon, rang in the new year there and celebrated a la An Affair to Remember. It was wonderful.
I've been dozens of times. Used to go almost every summer as a teenager since my best friend lived there.

Good Afternoon Dear One,
Well what an adorable photo of this precious son!
You I have nearly the same number in our brood-and our sons are all grown up now. Bittersweet isn't it?? Of them all...

Our goals for travel are to Sacramento (of course, you knew that one!)and the Jackson Hole Wyoming vicinity.
We will spend 2 weeks or so in the mountains, hiking, fishing, and marveling over the beauty of the West!
You know me-embracing nature as much as I can:)
With love,
Jemma
