A Tribute

When Jess and I were young, our mom would often take us on car rides around town. We always liked to play cassette tapes and drive down the tree-lined streets toward Old Town listening to our favorite songs.

One of our very favorites to play on these afternoon rides was Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." We loved the upbeat rhythms and Whitney's beautiful voice as she belted out the lyrics to a song that made us all want to dance.

"The truest expression of a people
is in its dances and its music.
Bodies never lie."
~ Agnes de Mille ~

Needless to say, we were deeply saddened to hear the tragic news about Whitney Houston's passing this weekend. She had such a special star quality about her - her bright smile, fashion-forward style, carefree attitude, and, of course, her truly spectacular voice.

Her music really was a gift to the world, and her loss will be deeply felt by many. Our hearts go out to Whitney's grieving family and friends during this difficult time, and we hope the ones she has left behind will take comfort in knowing how much joy her music has given to so many people.

To celebrate the life of a beloved and talented woman, we'd like to share our favorite Whitney Houston song with you. This is the Whitney we'll always remember in our hearts.

Whitney Houston, we'll always love YOU. May you rest in peace.

~ Nel ~

Lovely memories of your childhood. Mother used to take us on drives thru town, also.

Whitney had the world at her finger tips ... so sad.

So sweet of you.
Her best reward is to feel that she did belonged to people's lives as there isn't a single person who'd say that one of her musics (at least) wasn't sounding in a certain moment of their lives.

May Her Soul Rest in Peace.

A lovely and fitting tribute. Its good to remember the times when her talent soared rather than dwell on the sadness of her later life. I hope she is at peace now. Louise x

Nice tribute, Nel! It is so sad, isn't it? I have one daughter that won a full voice scholarship singing her songs. My heart aches for her 18 year old daughter. xo Diana

Oh my dear ....you are so sweet to write those words ....
My heart is happy thanks to you !
I am listening to your favorite song .....
It is so sad the world is so difficult for the famous and talented ones . So many of us take the music for granted and we do not realise what it takes to live such a life .
Now ...... on her way to heaven she
will feel our love I hope , I wish , I pray .
I wish you'r day is happy !

What a shock it was to hear of her untimely death! Her music will live on forever. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, especially her daughter. I loved her in the Movie "The Body Guard." Her light went out too quick and she will be missed.

What a beautiful tribute to her memory Nel.

A most beautiul tribute to a beautiful and amazingly talented lady. She will be missed by so many. I enjoyed your special memories. My sons remember my husband blaring her "I Will Always Love You" song every time he painted a room in the house.

Hi Sheri and daughters!

What a beautiful tribute to such a wonderful woman. I have been in love with Whitney's music ever since I was 18 or something. I am a singer myself and covered many of her songs. I love to sing I will always love you! I am totally crazily in love with her movie and music of 'The Preacher's wife' and oh just all her music is great. I was shocked to hear the news and had a rotten Sunday because of it. It deeply touched me as she was in my life somehow all the time. It's such a pity that she didn't make it and that those rotten drugs and stardom catched her in his horrible trap. I just still can't believe she's not there anymore, but i'm sure the angels are singing out loud now in heaven! Thank you for this great tribute and it's even more a sign that we have to enjoy today, as tomorrow may never come!

hugs and blessings,
Ingeborg

This is so nice, I love your tribute to Whitney Houston and your memories with your mom! I loved that song too. What's weird for me is that she was only 1 year older than me! I would drive around in my early 20's with her music blasting! We were both so young and now she's gone too soon! She had a gift!

A beautiful voice will be missed in the world. It is so sad to see her join the list of other entertainers who died way too soon....many due to drug and alcohol abuse, sadly. Those who have left us seemed to have so much in life...talent, success, and more. It seems the one thing they didn't have was peace and joy in their hearts which is so so sad :( Happiness comes from within and from our faith. Her death was a tragic loss. I hope that in death she can find the peace that was missing in her life. May God hold her close to Him and also her family who has lost someone they dearly loved. Your tribute is very nice and she would be proud of it. Her music will live on and on. I played "I Have Nothing" and "I Will Always Love You" in a piano recital once. :) xoxo Kim
