A Place To Call Her Own

Nel has always wanted her own study.  As an English major, it has been her dream to have a room filled with wall to wall books.  She went through her Bachelor's and Master's program finding any space she could to fit her desk in the cramped apartments that she had throughout college.  Now, she finally has a place to call her own.  Her study is her workspace, but it is also her sanctuary.  It is where she goes to grade papers, work on articles that she has to write, and curl up with a good book at the end of the day.

This is her favorite desk lamp.  It lights her desk while she studies late into the night.

This is her travel shelf.  Her travel journals are stacked on top of each other.  The framed picture is of her Grandma in Egypt.  It reminds her that traveling can be a life-long passion.

This is her cozy reading chair.  The black throw keeps her warm in the winter time.  There is a little table next to the chair that is the perfect place to set a nice hot cup of coffee.

Her American Literature book shelf, which is her major field of study for her Ph.D.

She keeps a few eclectic decorative items on her shelves.  These remind her of New Orleans.

She really likes this tall vase because the detail looks Indian to her.

She loves her genie lamp!  It sits next to her favorite potted plant, which she's had for six years!

This painting is of the Venetian canals.  She's looking forward to visiting Italy one day.

Nel's always been interested in languages.  These are some of the ones she's studied.

These wall candle holders have a cool design.

This is her most prized book in the library:  The Applause First Folio of William Shakespeare.

(Same book from the front)  All of Shakespeare's plays are collected in this volume.

Thanks for visiting Nel's space.

Nice place. I too love books! I'll have to remember some of the names here. I especially like the boat picture, or gondola, if that's the right name. :)

Thank you, Stephanie, for saying Hello. Nel actually took those pictures in her study, so I can't take credit for them. Me and Jess have always been into photography and have even taken classes in it, but Nel bought a camera recently and she has been taking some great pictures with it. I really like you blog, and I think it's so charming.

Hi Sheri,
What a great posting today! We learned so much about Nel from this one posting. I love her comfy chair and can picture her there reading her favorite book with a soothing cup of tea nearby. Love the genie lamp/lamp of learning. I love the fact that she mixes things she loves along with her books on her shelves. I do that, too. I have a black bookcase as well. I'll have to do a post on it someday, too. Love the print of Italy....a place I hope to visit also one day. It is on my list! :) I have actually posted some photos of Italy on my blog today. I shared some photos my son and his fiance took on a recent trip to Venice. I hope to see Venice someday, but also want to visit Tuscany. So many beautiful places in the world to see. I can see that Nel's study is her haven and can see why....it is really a lovely place to relax and read. Have a beautiful day! xoxo Kim

Oh man, I need a place like this! If only my toddlers didn't pull down every book on the shelf, it could happen. Maybe when they grow up a little :)

What a wonderful room. We love books in our family. We converted our tiny dining room into what we fancifully call "The Library." Books are definitely our friends. Well, we do have real friends too. LOL

Just stumbled upon you blog and It is a treat to meet you all.
