It's getting warmer here, and you can tell summer is right around the corner. It's not too hot, just warm enough to enjoy this season with a pleasant atmosphere. My brother-in law came for a visit, and I love when I see that little brown bag, cause I know some goodies are in there - two different small cakes, and a big pack of pork ribs with barbecue sauce. We had a nice conversation with stories of old and new. I made him a cup of coffee, and while he had the brownies I just made, I enjoyed some of the cake he brought.
Have you ever tried this barbecue sauce? It's the best. I'm not sure if it's popular in the south, but it's one of our favs around here.
Remember my neighbor's bush with the single rose that bloomed?
This is what they look like now.
My family are Rocky lovers, and all 9 movies of Rocky and Creed are showing on Netflix right now, and we've been watching some of them. It's a 50 year celebration, from 1976-2026.
Some summer pretties around the house.
So, I mentioned to you that Jess and Nel are on a fabulous trip, and I'll give you a hint on their destination. This heritage sparks in my dad's blood....and mine!
You guessed it.....GREECE!
I'll share a few pics that Jess sent me first.
Athens....You may have heard that there are a lot of Cats in Greece. This is true, and for many different reasons, one of them is that they don't neuter their cats and just let them roam, believing that altering animals is unnatural and goes against the animal's nature. They view the strays as "community wildlife." They are treated very good and fed, even on the streets.
My favorite Pastichio dish. It tastes a little like lasagne, but different with the unique spices they use in the recipe like cinnamon and Bechamel sauce.
The villas in Greece are so charming and old with flowers and family stories.
I loved this photo because my grandfather's name was Leonidas. He immigrated from Greece in 1912, and raised his family in the states, in my hometown!
One of my favorite pics is of the dancers with their unique and festive clothes.
Loved the expression on Francesca's face when eating one of the meat skewers haha.
The ruins in the background are the Acropolis, and the Parthenon is part of it. The Parthenon is one of the most famous and influential structures in the world, and probably the most famous in Greece.
On the Island of Zakynthos....while Nel was making her presentation, Jess wandered around. They found a church, and Jess lit a candle and said a prayer for me. I thought that was so very special.
I'll show you more of their Greece trip in the days ahead. Since Father's Day is approaching, I'd like to share with my new blog friends a little about my own dad.
*I was fortunate to have a terrific dad. He had a big smile and a twinkle in his eye. He was always there for his kids if we needed anything, and I was very close to him growing up. He had a garden across the street from our house, and I would go over there and help him water and pick veggies, and we would sometimes have long meaningful talks. He was also a hunter, and I accompanied him at times on his hunting trips. He worked for the phone company, and when I was a little older, I would visit him at the workplace, and he introduced me to many of his co-workers. He was always out there in the yard sprucing things up, and making his house look nice. He was a good husband and dad, and since I was the youngest, I had the least time with him before he left this world. I was only 28, and not at all ready to lose someone so dear to me, but he filled my life with many good things, and I am thankful every day to have had such a great dad.
I'm the wee one on my oldest brother's lap.

What a fabulous vacation and wonderful pictures to treasure. I love that roses painting. Kids grow up so fast.
I liked hearing about your Dad. He sounds like a wonderful man. I too, was blessed with a good dad.
What lovely photos from Greece. It looks like they are having a lot if fun there - interesting take on the cats. I'd love it there.
Supposed to be 109 here today but up your way still bearable. Do you find many more visitors in town when our heat rises? Because really, the best places to escape the heat is east. Even the town of MT Shasta has been Hot and Westerville to the west. Oh well it is summer and it's supposed to cool down after tomorrow.
Have a wonderful week.
PS. Your mugs are so pretty. You have a nice collection of them.
I enjoyed reading about your dad. He was quite handsome. What a blessing to have a wonderful dad. Also, what a wonderful trip for your daughter and grand. How much fun! That is so interesting about cats! We love Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ and in the south it is very popular. I hope you have a fantastic week ahead.
Sheri, I love every thing about this post. Your history and the gorgeous photos of Greece. That's always been a place I wanted to visit. Their food is so yummy too.
Yes, to Sweet Baby Ray's sauce. We slather it on just about everything. Last night it was on our baked chicken and oozed over into the mashed potatoes...So, so delicious.
Love your tribute to you Dad. I was very fortunate to have one just like yours. We were blessed.

Wow, Greece! Francesca looks so pretty with the roses and her matching shorts. Your nighttime photo of Greece is stunning! We watched that series about the naturalist's family that moved to Greece during the war, they were in Corfu. Greece seems so wonderful!! i love your pink ladybug mug! And the candles on the white tray, a beautiful contrast. I used to make pistachio, it is so good. but so involved to make! Your dad was so handsome, and sounds like such a wonderful father.
Sheri....you had a very handsome dad and I sure see the resemblance. what a fabulous trip... the photos are all so wonderful and this is a place that is filled with so much beauty. Glad they are having such a wonderful time. I wish you could have traveled with them...how awesome that would have been. Your BIL sounds like a great guy...always bringing surprises. We use the Baby Ray's BBQ sauce all the time. It is so good. My sweet Hubby LOVES Rocky. I am not so much of a fan, but I do catch bits and pieces when he watches the shows. The beautiful red rose in your header is so stunning... Wishing you a fabulous week ahead..
Hello Sheri! What a fun trip. Baby Ray's they sell at our ALDI too. I've not had it in a long time but recall it was good. Happy Watching! Sounds fun that all of the movies dropped on Netflix. The last name... most excellent.
Sweet and precious remembrances... Wonderful trip and gorgeous photos! Best wishes, dear Sheri.
The girls are having a marvelous time.. great pictures. The old pictures of your dad are wonderful as well. We are never ready to lose them.
This brought back memories - I went to Greece decades ago. I am so glad they got to visit it - I hope the young gals remember it. Such history there the Acropolis and Parthenon. Amazing and still standing (mostly).
You look like your dad. I am sorry you lost him so early. It makes it tough for sure.
The villas look so nice. Peaceful.
So, they actually went to Leonidas where you are from.
The pistachio dish looked delicious.
I can't believe they don't neuter cats - but it must work out.
Jess lighting a candle was very sweet and so is your BIL and his treats. That carrot cake looks so good and I love your pink mug.
We eat sweet baby rays here too.
Well just to let you know - we are in summer here and it is H O T!
I love your beautiful mugs.
And the touching tribute to your dad. ❤️❤️
Can you imagine the Roman empire at its prime? It must have been incredible.
What wonderful memories the girls are making on their vacation. I have never been to Greece. I am sorry you lost your Dad at such a young age. I miss my Dad every day. I wish he was still here. Your brother in law is very kind. Stay cool! It is smoking hot here.

Greece isn't just a country, it's a way of life. A place many people in Europe long to visit.
The photos are so beautiful. You can see your loved ones are having a wonderful time there.
Actually, I know that barbecue sauce. It's been sold here for about two years now.
Have a great week!
