The Big And Little Things Of May

Well, it seems that there are always big and small things that come up each month, and among the big ones is the blazing fire that's going on in So California right now.  It's called the Sandy Fire, and it's not that far from Jess.  It's 75% contained, thank the Lord, and we have some robust firefighters working on it.  Thousands were ordered to evacuate.  There's some smoke in Jess' area, but she has not had to evacuate.

When I see the deer, I feel it's considered a big thing, as how many of us open our doors, walk outside, and see deer right in their front or back yards?  This one looked satisfied chomping on something.  I do think there was a buck in the midst of them all, which is rare.

Some baby birds were born recently, and I'm not sure what type of bird they are, but the neighborhood can hear them peep loudly day and night!  *Baby birds stretch and open their beaks as wide as possible.  This is called gaping.  They do this to reveal their brightly colored mouths, which triggers their parents' natural instinct to feed them.

🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣

Among the little things (and those are often the best ones).....I watched the movie Green Book.  It was a really good movie.....reflective, eye opening, had a lot of perspective, inspiring, and entertaining.  I recommend watching this film.  It's based on a true story as well, which I always appreciate.

The kids are officially on summer break, and ready to enjoy this time off from school.  Mia had a 'spring sing,' an end of the year performance where all the classes in that grade level come together to give a short concert.

It's always such a joy to see my white flowering bush awaken every spring.

Cinnamon raisin toast and peach orange tea - a good combination.

Through the kitchen window, I see my neighbor's flag waving every Memorial Day weekend.

~if you know someone like this, give them a gentle hug today~

Sometimes I feel like I'm part Italian (but I'm not), cause I love their food so much. 🍝🍞🍕  Shell pasta with marinara sauce.

I hope you have some big and little surprises this week.

**update...the Sandy Fire is now 100% contained, thank the Lord.  Thank you, brave CAL FIRE firefighters.

Exceptional photos this week. Those of the deer in your yard are so precious. They know you are a safe human. Mia is such a beautiful young lady now. Enjoy the rest of your week, Sheri.

Sheri some of the big things can be scary...like the fire near Jess. Pray they can continue to keep everyone safe. Hard to believe the kids are out of school...ours have another three days and then they are out for a couple of months. Mia looks adorable and bet she is looking forward to being home for the
summer break. It looks like the deer must feel rather secure being in your yard. We have many here but not generally close to the house. Your photos are beautiful...adore the California Poppies. Your white bush is gorgeous too. I hope you have a blessed Memorial Day. Hugs!

Yes, Sheri ... I love all of your photos of the deer and flowers ... and of course, Mia and her sweet smile.
I'm glad Jesse is safe from that terrible fire down south. Its windy today but thankfully not too hot. Praying there will be no fires here in the flat-lands.
Cinnamon toast sounds like a good thing to have this morning..I may have to have a second cup of tea and some toast too.
Enjoy your day.

It's good that Jess was safe and didn't have to be evacuated. I really hope the fire can be completely extinguished soon and people can return to their homes.

Yes, the photos of the deer are something very special. I'm always happy when you show them.

I know the film. I liked it very much too.

Have a wonderful week, Sheri!

The poppies are gorgeous, and I love your beautiful header! Your deer photos are so beautiful. Close, sharp, and sweet. Poor California, all I ever hear about them is fires!! I feel so bad for the ones near the fires, it must be horribly frightening.

Beautiful photos, dear Sheri. Happy Memorial Day to you.

Good to hear Jess is safe from the fires. That must be scary, to have to evacuate. While deer are a norm in our area they still move me, not so jaded yet.

I’m relieved Jess is safe from the fire.
I had to smile when you mentioned Italian food. I feel the same way! Sometimes I think there’s more marinara running through my veins than soy sauce. 🍝 Your shell pasta looked delicious.
And I also enjoyed The Green Book-- such a thoughtful, eye‑opening film with a lot of heart.
Thank you for sharing all these “big and little things” of May, they really capture the season beautifully. 🌸

We get fires moving through here, I am hoping this will be a no fire year. What a fun post.

I hope the fires are 100% contained soon. Worried for friends in the Garden Grove area now for the chemical spill.
Oh you are so fortunate to live surrounds with so much beautiful nature. Happy you can enjoy it. Your toast and tea looks so good. I love toast and tea.

Lovely post Sheri, and lots of good things. So pleased the fires are being contained. Did you know the California fire-fighting helicopters come to Australia during our fire season, and Australia sends fire-fighters over to help California in our off-season. Friendly neighbours across the Pacific! Those deer are great to see and your are a clever photographer to capture them. I will watch out for Green Book, always looking for a nice movie. Yay for the orange California Poppies!

Hello, Dear Sheri - lovely photos of the sweet deer and those poppies are amazing! So happy to hear that Jess and her family are safe from the fires. Wildfires are so scary and we are constantly dealing with them here in WA state, too. We all owe a great deal to all the brave firefighters who put their lives on the line to keep everyone safe.
Mia is so lovely and I can see the family resemblance, especially with her beautiful grandmother :)
Cinnamon toast and peach-orange tea sounds delicious! And of course, it would taste much better in a lady-bug cup! I am also a pasta lover. I think I have pasta at least once a week.
Always love your movie recommendations. I will look for this one, it sounds good.
I love the quote. I think living a quiet, but kind life is under-appreciated in this day and age.
Hope you have a lovely week ahead enjoying this beautiful time of year. Hugs xo

Hi Sheri,
I enjoyed all your photos today. Deer are so sweet, but they love to eat my flowers. Soon there will be babies. Mia has grown so much! I bet she is excited to be out for summer. Will she come visit you?
I love Mexican food the most, but we are not Mexican. 😆
Fires really make me anxious. We have done a lot of fire prevention here. I hope we stay safe.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Haha, I wrote a book and must not have hit publish! I still have my nose. I loved this one about May. I had so many comments.
I haven't heard anything about the Sandy Fire - is it still going on?
I love the deer with their black noses - no Rudolph there.
I have never ever heard the word gaping before. That is interesting.
What was the Green Book about? I am always looking for a new movie.
Mia is all out of school for the summer. I have never heard of the kids singing near the end of school.
Love your white flowers.
And you peach and orange twinning tea looks so good in your new cup you bought. I need to buy raisin toast.
I think the flag is one of the prettiest sights to see - makes me cry.
It is true it takes all kinds of people in the world - doesn't it?
I love Italian food too and so does Kelly.
And lastly I love the California Poppies.
Now to push publish!
Love you.

Thank the Lord the fire near Jess's house is now 100 percent contained. That must have been scary. Mia is so cute! You should download Merlin, it will tell you what birds are around just from sound.

Those deer are precious, and the sight and sound of birds. That’s very interesting about the baby birds. I will have to put the movie on my watch. Our schools in this part of Virginia don’t end until June 17th and they start up again on August 24th. Mia looked very sweet in her photo and what a nice end of the school year happening for her. Thank you for a wonderful post Sheri. I always have a real nice time reading them and seeing all your photos. Happy June to you all :)

Peach and orange, yes please and thank you. I have at home ginger peach and I love it cold or hot.

We have deer outside our house as well. Very nice to see. Lots of critters too they do a great deal of damage at times however this year so far so good.

Hope the kiddo enjoys her summer vacation. Those are lovely!

Haven't seen the movie. Nice to see Viggo acting. Haven't heard his name in a long time though I am out of the movie loop these days.
