After a trip, it's always nice to be home, and last week was catch up time. When I'm around so many people and crowds and traffic, I need to retreat to nature after, as it's a sweet part of creation that grounds me and keeps me calm.
Nature is lovely here in the mountains, and it's even more special when nature comes to me and visits me right here at home.
Since I was just with all my family recently,
it was nice to spend a serene mother's day with my son just visiting nature. We headed over to the creek, but first we picked up some tacos and burritos at the local restaurant in town.
Everything was full and green, and it was a warm, sunny day.
I was hoping that the poppies were in full bloom - they come and go quickly, so you have to visit at just the right time to see them in spring. When I first got there, I could see orange in the distance, and was surprised to see a cluster of poppies near the edge of the creek.
Some fun facts about the California Poppy.
*They were designated as California's state flower in 1903.
*They open in full sunlight, and close during cloudy weather or at night.
*Native American tribes used the California Poppy for its mild sedative properties to promote relaxation and sleep. They also used the plant as a pain reliever.
*The vibrant blooms are a magnet for bees, butterflies and beneficial insects.
*Known as the "Golden Flower of the West."
*They have four delicate petals that form a cup. Also known as "The Cup of Gold."
I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Such yummy morsels of goodness.
Wanted to show you my calendar for May. It's delightful and says ~Spilling the tea at the Fairy Tree~
*And for my new blog friends, a little about my own mom....I was fortunate to have an amazing mother. She was always there for her five children, and tended to their needs, with me being the youngest feisty child. Her Singer sewing machine was her hobby, and she made many wonderful things on it, including most of my clothes growing up. I designed them, told her just what I wanted, and she went on busily sewing them for that special ocassion. She worked on so many projects, like the fabric Christmas ornaments that she put on her tree one year. Nel still has some of those ornaments tucked away. She was a calm mom, who held her composure when it was especially needed. Her family was her life, and she was the best cook, making homemade meals every day. The person that resembles my mom the most I believe is Jess. They are both petite with fair skin and lighter hair. She truly was a great mom.
This is Jingles, Walt Disney's favorite horse on the Carousel at Disneyland. It's really hard to get her when standing in line.
Hope your week is filled with all things good. Here's a California Poppy for you.

It’s always a joy to stop by here. Glad you had a wonderful Mother’s Day.
Sheri - your mom was truly lovely. I am sure you still miss her as I do my own. Are not the deer just the sweetest animals. They are such gentle souls. So glad you can enjoy them so close to your home. We actually grow California Poppies here in Ohio. They are an annual here so enjoy them in early spring and summer. So glad you and your son enjoyed Mother's Day. Take care. Hugs!
Lovely photos. Looks like you had a splendid Mother's Day.
Sounds like a perfect Mothers day. The close up of the poppy is frame worthy! Beautiful post this morning
Oh Sheri, Your mother is simply gorgeous. She has such a tender look in her eyes.
I love the poppies and wish they would last longer. I haven't seen too many clusters of them this year.
Yumm-o on the chocolate chip cookies. I can almost smell them from here.
Have a wonderful week. I love all of your blog photos too.
Sue
California poppies look as beautiful as the sun at sunset.
Charming photo of the carousel.
I see you in your mother's smile, Sheri.
Have a wonderful week!
What a wonderful way to spend Mother's Day with your son; doing something you really love. And your poppy shots are so lovely. We do not have this wild kind. We only have the huge red ones that have been bred to look nothing like the original wild ones. The merry-go-round photo is gorgeous and so perfect! I adore your calendar photo! Right down to the tiny elf on the ladder. what kind is it? I must look it up on Amazon.
Hello Sheri,
I am like you, I need my time in nature.
Thank you for sharing the California poppy with us.
I loved the tribute to your mom. She is beautiful!! I can see Jess in her photos and I can see your grand-girls in her photo too.
What is the necklace that she is wearing? Is it a ring?
Happy New Week,
Carla
Your Mother is beautiful! My Mom has the same Singer sewing machine ( it belonged to my Grandmother). That yellow flower is gorgeous. Always a pleasure stopping by! Blessings!
Goodness, I had never seen a photo of your mother - she is just beautiful and Jess does look like her. What sweet memories that she sewed your clothes and that you loved them.
Glad you are home and had a nice Mother's Day with your son. Those tacos looked good. I liked the meme description of - cozy cottage size - me too! I bet the deer feel safe there and that is why you get to see them so much and the mourning doves. I didn't know that poppies were the state flower, and I didn't know any of the facts about them either. I enjoyed the read today
Sheri...you really favor your mom and so do your girls.. Nature has a way of calming our souls, especially when we take the time to absorb all of the beauty that God created. You have plenty of deer in your area and I always enjoy seeing the photos that you post of them. One of the sweet things I remember when visiting California is the Poppies. Poppies look so delicate and their beauty amazes me. I wish we could grow them here, but they just do not do well in my area. thank you for the info about these beautiful flowers. Looks like you had a very delightful day for Mother's Day...I know you are excited to receive your gift...can't wait to see what comes your way... big hugs to you Sheri...
Poppies are so beautiful I never see them here in the north east.
Lovely tribute to your mom.
I am with you I love getting out and about but so happy to be home again.

Your mother sounds just lovely. I can see the resemblance to your daughter in her face.
California poppies just make me smile, I love that the migrate into Oregon and we can enjoy them too. Nature is so very special.
It’s always such a treat to visit your blog, Sheri.
Your mom sounds like a truly remarkable woman, and I can feel the love in the way you write about her.
The poppy close‑up is stunning.
And those chocolate chip cookies-- I can almost taste them through the screen. 😋
Blessings 🌹
A lovely Mother's Day post, dear Sheri. Your mother was very beautiful, and you girls have all followed her. California poppies are very pretty. I like yellow and orange flowers too. Was that your mother's Singer machine? My Mum made all our clothes too; it was the way back then, and I have learned the habit from her. I still make some of my own things. Isn't that Carousel horse gorgeous, and one little girl looks so pleased to be riding her. Have a great week.
Your mother sounds like a wonderful person, Sheri. And she certainly was a very beautiful one. Loved seeing all the nature and those dazzling poppies. I always like seeing your girls but also very happy that you had one-on-one with your son for Mother's Day. A serene day sounds pretty wonderful. So do those tacos!

I am the same way! If I am out and about like retreats, conferences, or with lots of people... I have to have some downtime with nature. 100%
