Warmth In The City

It was going to be 74 degrees in the city that week, so I thought it was a good day to drive down the mountain and spend an afternoon in the city before the rains and snow come this month.  So, off I went with my son to have a day of fun and smiles.  It's 50 minutes to the city, so I don't like the drive, but it's all worth the discomfort when we arrive and are ready to explore new places.  Our first stop was Starbucks, of course.  And you can't go wrong with coffee and a chocolate croissant, warmed up.

Our next stops were Target and Hobby Lobby.  I was in awe looking around at Hobby Lobby - it has everything you need for crafts and decorating the home, but I didn't find anything that was a must to bring home.  At Target, I bought some make-up, pancake mix, syrup, Hershey's kisses, and these cute nail stickers for the kids.

We went from pine, fir, and cedar trees to California palm trees in less than an hour.  There were palms everywhere in this one shopping center.

While my son got a haircut, I went inside a pie and bread shop.  It's a quaint shop filled with homemade breads, pies, pastries, and more.  I thought the pies were a little pricey though.

We were getting hungry, and it was time for lunch, so we drove over to our favorite Mexican restaurant.  The food is delicious, and the waiter is always so good to us.

After, we drove over to Michael's.  Lots of cute Easter stuff already, but I didn't buy anything there.  Then, it was Barnes and Noble.  My son went to the coffee shop there for an afternoon pistachio latte, while I browsed the store.  I needed a calendar, and was hoping there was still a Mary Engelbreit one, as it's already February.  There was!  We have to glance at our calendars all year long, so why not get a bright and cheerful one, right?

Our next stop was World Market, one of my fav shops.  There is a little coffee cart when you first walk inside World Market.  They have samples of different coffees, and after walking for so long, it's always a treat to stop and rest and try a new coffee blend.  There, hanging from a mug tree was the prettiest cup, and it was so me.  It looked so Valentiney....and Springy.

After, we headed over to Dick's and Kohl's, which I didn't find anything, but my son bought a couple shirts.  Then, our last stops were Sprouts and Home Goods.  At Sprouts, we bought some organic apples, green tea, and pecan pie.  Have you ever had pecan pie at Sprouts?  So yummy - actually, the best pecan pie that I've had.

It was a long day of walking, and my feet were really sore by then, so it was time to head on back up the mountain.  It was really warm in the city, and starting to get too warm by the end of the day, so I appreciated the coolness of the air at 3,000 ft. driving home.  I rolled down my car window and took a breath of that fresh mountain air.  At one point during the drive it gets to 4,000 ft, and we saw a bit of snow on the side of the roads, so pretty.

One of my favorite things about spending the day in the city is the haul that I get to bring home to enjoy.

It was such a wonderful day, and it's always good to return safely to the place we call home.  It's nice to explore the city once in a while, and I've lived in the suburbs all my life, but I really like the calmness and peace that these mountains bring to me each and every day.

Right after I finished this post, I looked out my back window and saw four deer!  They are still working on the fencing, and the deer walked right through the opening and into my back yard.  They stayed a while, and at one point, were very close to the house.  What a surprise, what a blessing.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It's fun for me when you post about my town. Next time, you really need to go downtown to the public market. Or to Turtle Bay! We've been having perfect weather. Yesterday we had some rain after weeks of sunshine.
Great shot of the deer, as if he is looking right at you.
That cup is my kind if cup! Love it.
I'm glad you had a nice day with your son. ❤
Have a great week, Sheri.

Oh yes, Valentine's Day is coming! I need to get some Valentine's for family. What a fun adventure to the city. My goodness, but you visited a lot of places. What yummy treats to bring home too. That is a very cute cup from World Market. World Market is a favorite of mine too. It is only about a mile from me and so tempting. I don't go there often though. Happy Valentine's Day back to you!

I could write a book to talk about your post. It seems to me you have you cake and can eat it too. You live in the beautiful mountains and yet within an hour - there is every store that you can imagine going to and restaurants too. You are a lucky lady for sure.
Nice to go with your son. I loved and have gone to every store you mentioned.
I know you got all those little supplies for the girls when you see them next.
I loved the Calander you picked and the roses on your teacup.
I went to Sprouts and our did not have the Pecan pie - I was going to get one.
And lastly the beautiful photo of the deer. How beautiful.

The mug is so pretty, and is indeed YOU! Wow, you had a huge day of fun! What could be better than a day of shopping. I would never be able to leave Hobby Lobby with nothing. I have not heard of the Moka kisses, I will be on the lookout for them. Love your palm trees photo, the way they are all lined up against the pretty blue sky. 6:45 is such an odd closing time! Our Barnes & Noble stopped selling calendars years ago. I asked why and they said they had no room for them. But maybe they are back now. I even love the smell of that store.

Oh Sheri, I loved, loved the quote " I shall take my morning tea with the birds and the trees and the bumbling bees."
Our Sam likes the Kodiak pancake mix.
Happy Valentine's Day my dear friend!

Hi Sheri,
I am glad you got to come to the city. I still call it a town as I grew up when it was a small town. I don't usually go to starbucks except to get a gift card for someone. I make my own coffee at home. At Christmas I stopped and got a gift card and bought a sheriff who was behind me his coffee. My whole car smelled like coffee. It was so nice. I love that smell. It rained here yesterday morning, but today was nice. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Sheri dear....you hit some of my favorite places all in one day!! good for you. I mean, everything in this post is spot on for what I love, including those gorgeous cups!! Love them. I need to really come out your way and just hang out with you for a day. And listen...you hit it big with those nail packages. The girls are going to love them!! I've been amazed at all the cute, adorable Easter stuff that is out there. I visited Home Goods today and goodness, I just needed to not go down the isles. So many pretty things. We had very warm temps here today...I actually put on a pair of my shorts late this afternoon...it was right at the mark of being 80 degrees. Wishing you a beautiful Valentine week. Big warm hugs coming your way...

It sounds like a fun day with your son, shopping until your feet hurt. My kind of outing! It's amazing how the topography changes with just an hour's drive, from evergreens to palm trees. Nice to have a change of scenery and climate all in one trip.
Some of those shops I've never been to, but I do love Hobby Lobby and Michaels. All the treats sound yummy. You brought home some nice treats, too. The girls are going to love the nail decals. So cute. A special visit from your deer friends. They know they are safe there. Hope you have a lovely week my friend. Hugs x K

It's so lovely that you had deer in your garden again. The photo is great.

I especially enjoy reading about your trips to town with your son. I like what you bought. Yuzu tea—I'll have to see if I can find some around here.

Sheri what a fun day...it sounds like a day I would have shared with my dear mom. We would have went to Hobby Lobby and Barnes and Nobles...treated ourselves to a wonderful lunch and sipped a special coffee or two. Visiting those place with you and your son brought back wonderful memories. We lived about 45 min. to an hour away from the city...so it always was a jaunt for us. Your weather sounds like the best...wow warm and sunny and then snow on the way home. Adore your picture of the deer. I am sure you are glad when they visit. Thanks so much friend for sharing your trip to the city with us. Happy Valentine's day. Hugs!

Hello Sheri! Your day out in the city sounds wonderful! You visited two of my favorite shops - Sprout's and Starbucks. Surprisingly, I have a Starbucks almost right across the street from where we live. I don't go there as often as you would think, but I do stop in for the occasional cappuccino and biscotti. Your new mug is beautiful! It makes me happy just looking at it. I've tried the Kodiak brand of waffle mix, and it was very good! And the pecan pie looks delicious! I'll keep that in mind the next time at Sprout's. Thank you for the sweet message over on my blog. The heart Valentine wreath is from Target. It's made of felt, and it's so cute! I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day! ❤️

Sheri, that sounds like a perfect day. The pie looks so good, it would be worth the trip just to get the pie. I do love the country air, so perfect..

I love visiting all the places you do - and they can be dangerous. Especially Hobby Lobby and Target! I prefer Dutch Brothers for coffee but frequent Starbucks too. Wow 74 degrees! I grew up in Southern California but now live in Portland, Oregon. so, no 74 degrees this time of year here. We definitely traded fir trees for palm trees! 🎨☕

Looks like you had a great time in the city with your son and I enjoyed all the things you did and that pretty cup, so sweet. I get my Starbucks Venti Vanilla Latte every Saturday morning and it's such a nice treat. 75 degrees? How wonderful! We're still dealing with lower temperatures but at least the snow is disappearing, albeit slowly, and it's going to start to get into the 60's soon. We don't have a Hobby Lobby around here that I know of, but I've been into Target and Michaels. I enjoy Michaels especially. The palm trees remind me of our time in Southern California for the first 15 years of our marriage. I look forward to a visit one of these days. Happy Valentine's Day!
