Rain Outside, Cozy Inside

It's a new year, and I'm just sitting here this morning with a cup of coffee and a homemade sugar cookie, thinking about what the new year will bring.

I've been tidying up, going through things, getting rid of old papers, gathering items I no longer want or need and taking them to the thrift shop just down the road.  You know, all the things that we normally do when we start a fresh new year.  How do we accumulate so many papers?  I realize though that some papers are valuable and important.  My mom was very organized, and everything had a place, but she did have a lot of paperwork in desks and drawers.  While this was the norm, I am eager to toss any papers that I've had for a while and don't serve any purpose.

We had rain all weekend, and are supposed to have it through the week. ⛆⛆⛆

I have been craving Chinese food, and went to the restaurant the first of the year, but it was closed until Jan. 6.  So, my son cooked a teriyaki chicken dish instead.  It was ever so good.

"So strong is tradition that later generations will dream of what they have never seen."

~G.K. Chesterton

Yes, they are starting to put Valentine stuff out at the store already.  I don't mind though, as we need a day to commemorate love.  It's the one thing that is drastically missing in the world.  And I couldn't resist this mini box of chocolates. ; )

My son made some croissants, and each time I say it was his best batch yet, and this one really was.  He is getting the recipe down.  I tried one warm from the oven with butter and honey.

I got Mia's gift last week! - a nice pair of tennis shoes, which I really needed.  I have to have good arch support when walking, and when I was at Nel's house, I borrowed her shoes, and they did the trick.  So, she bought me a pair in the same brand (Asics), and now I can walk long distances without my feet being in discomfort.

And another neat present from Mia.  Our family loves a good movie, and Nel found this popcorn with assorted seasonings.  Can't wait to try them out, especially the kettle corn.

My neighbors still have their blue lights up.  They are fitting and pretty for the new year.

It's been so cold and rainy that I thought a hot bowl of tomato soup would be nice.  I put a dab of cream cheese over it, even better.

Doesn't this peppermint beignet at Disney look wonderful?  Nel said they were soooo good.

I love seeing the kids when their hearts are happy.

I hope the new year has been gentle to you so far.  We had a power outage on Saturday, but it only lasted for a couple hours.  And I've been thinking of all the floods that have occurred in both northern and southern California.

A good start to the new year. Those croissants look perfect! Oh papers, there’s always some place that sends way too much. One company always sends 3 pages of the languages they can print for clients.

Ummm, yummm, croissants are my favorite !! I can only imagine how wonderful these must taste right out of your oven..slight envy rearing its head ...
Sloppy rain has been our weekend too.Sacramento Valley got its share . I'm so glad for a break in the weather so things can drain.
There always seems to be so much paper around and I MUST get to our piles very soon. Ugh ...
Hope your week will have some sunshine in it.

I need to go through my things - again - and get rid of. I accumulate so many things myself. I keep promising I won't and then I do. My family lives in So. CA and it is raining there too. My favorite chocolate is Russel Stover's - it reminds me of my childhood. Those croissants look delicious. New shoes - what a perfect gift. I put a little sour cream in my soup. Anything with peppermint is my kind od dessert.

There really has been a lot of rain in California lately. A friend of mine lives in Redding and she has a creek in her back yard that is high with water. Love seeing your gifts. How lovely to have your son cook for you. Those croissants look amazing. Shoes that are comfy for walking are the best......

Homemade croissants, teriyaki chicken, and peppermint beignets all sound absolutely delicious. 😋
It’s amazing how quickly things pile up, yet letting go feels so refreshing. Mia’s thoughtful gifts sound perfect, and those Asics shoes will make walks even more enjoyable.
Wishing you gentle days ahead, maybe with a little sunshine to balance all that rain! 🌹

Oh my, I had not heard of floods in California. I hope everyone is safe. It looks cold at your place, but in a nice way: pretty lights, and warm tomato soup. Your son's croissants really do look wonderful, he is a talent. It is funny how much paper we accumulate, but not so funny when we move house! We threw away a lot, and also a few things we should have kept, oops... Now it is sure to build up again. Happy New Year Sheri.

I need to pull up a seat at your table. Is it okay if I invite myself. Love you.

Just look at your beautiful header Sheri...It is perfect and I love that vase. You sound so much like me...I sometimes get hungry for some good ol' sesame chicken or egg drop soup. Sam is not crazy about it, so I usually get one of the girls to go with me. Love the flavors. Your Mia is so sweet!! How precious for her to send you such a thoughtful gift. Grands are the best aren't they? So much rain for you all. Hopefully y'all will get a break soon. I'm guessing you made those sugar cookies. I do love a good sugar cookie even without icing. Hope you have a wonderful week and as always...I so enjoy our conversations.

You certainly have had your share of rain in the past month or two. We have been having a very mild winter so far. You could send some of that precipitation our way!

Sheri between the croissants, popcorn, and teriyaki chicken you have managed to make me hungry. Your son's croissants look superb! Ah yes those young happy hearts bring so much joy. Sorry you have had so much rain and the flooding is devastating. I am with you in the cleaning out and sorting...organizing hits my dopamine button and so I am there. Have a lovely start to the new year. Hugs!

Oh my, don't those beignets look amazing? And everything else for that matter. Your son's croissants for a start. Sorry to read about the flooding and hope there is no more. Always sweet to see your family having a good time. Such a neat gift, the popcorn. And we had tomato soup a couple of days ago with cheese toast on sourdough. Nothing homemade but it was oh so good on a chilly night. Sounds like your 2026 is off to a good start.
