Christmas Joy At My House

It was fun decorating for Christmas this year, cause I got a few new things to go along with the old.  I have a space for all the different fun items that I put out each year; the silver and white with the frosty people, the red and green whimsical things, the elves, the snow globes.  Here's a few pics of Christmas joy around my house, and I am always changing things around.

Looking outside my window, there were 7 Doves on my lawn.  This happened before, so it was a surprise to see 7 precious Doves gathering on my front yard again.  They look very similar to the mourning dove, but in fact, they are relative to it, and are called the Eurasian Collared Dove.  They have a distinct ring around its neck to show the difference.  They are beautiful birds, so gentle and peaceful.  A perfect time to show up during the Christmas season.

I had some work being done at my house last week for a few days.  My pilot light has been giving me trouble for a while now, so it was decided that a new water heater be put in.  This is a different kind of water heater, and it's a little more expensive, but only heats water when the faucets are turned on, not running all the time.  No pilot lights to worry about.  The last one was right next to the dryer, and with coming and going and cleaning the lent, it always seemed to put that light out.  I appreciate all the effort made to get the job done, but I don't like workers in my home - what a mess they leave behind.  I'm thankful for the big basin in the laundry room my brother put in - makes it easier to mop and clean.  And we'll see how this new heating system works.  He says I will always have hot water, and my utility bill will be less.

My son made a beef stew, so I got to enjoy it over the weekend.  It wasn't a French stew this time, it was a good ole' American stew with chunks of tender beef, potatoes, carrots, onions, salt and pepper.  It was thick and good, and I had it with buttered rolls.

Red velvet cookies.  They were so good with coffee.

I know many of us bloggers like to see Christmas decorating in the home, so I'll try to get some pictures from Nel and Jess to share with you next time.

Have a merry November week.

I can tell that you really enjoy decorating and bringing the Christmas spirit into your home. Everything looks lovely! I hate when workers leave a mess and I have started to discuss that in advance before hiring people. I expect them to clean up after themselves. Lovely photos of the doves!

Every one of your photos are so cheery. I really like all your Christmas cheer. You take good photos. No decorations here. It's our tradition to make Thanksgiving weekend the time to decorate. We need to replace lights for the outside of the house this year.
The cookies look delicious. Love your doves. I've not noticed if my doves here are the same as yours. We get flocks of doves as well since they enjoy the many seed feeders we have. They're just so precious.
I'm enjoying the beginnings of this most cherished time of year and I don't want to miss a thing. Enjoy this week, Sheri.

Hurrah!!! I always love seeing your decorations, it is my favorite blog post! You did wonderfully! I love the items you chose to put by the bridge painting, it all makes a beautiful scene! And the ornaments you hung on your cabinet! That is so pretty, along with the beautiful cabinet doors. You got wonderful photos of the Doves, and I can really see the collar!! The shots are kind of timeless.

All you Christmas decorations looks lovely.
We got one of those tankless water heaters as well.. I am personally not a fan. Since it only heats when you turn the faucet on I feel whoever turns it on first has to waste so much water waiting for it to warm up. The people afterwards get unlimited hot water. I guess it's good it's not working all the time but that water wasting just annoys me.

This heating unit heats up right away, so there's no water wasting. And it gives continuous heat for whoever uses it next.

I really love the simplicity of your decorations. The placement of the newest ornament on your cabinet handle is perfect.
I especially like the little girl figurine and the way her coat seems to be swishing in the winter wind. Is it an antique?
Love the doves too. We usually have a pair that want to nest in our yard. I haven't seen them yet this season.
Have a great week Sheri and keep enjoying those delicious cookies.

I love your Christmas decorating Sheri. I plan to start doing a little this week and have it all done by November 30th.
We put up a live tree, so I will wait to put the tree up until November 29th.
I love nutcrackers, thank you for sharing the photo of the collection.

Hi Sheri. I love that little tree with the lights. I am on the hunt for those sized trees to shoot with my minis. Found some out but didn't pull the trigger yet.

Very cool that you baked red cookies!

I just love that print on the mantel or shelf with the little characters and lights with it. Perfect -- they fit it so well! It tells a little story with the figures there. You have so many lovely holiday touches. And those doves are just lovely. I'm also fond of your little Pinocchio. You'll enjoy your new hot water heater and what a gem your son is! Fantastic!

You have a knack for decorations. The winter scene looks very pretty with the lighting.

I just love reading how you describe everything and let us know what is going on. I wish I was better at that myself.
Love your header. You rotate the seasons there - don't you? Love it.
I like the way you put lights by your picture - we did that too with our manger scene.
I love your figuring girl in aqua!!! My favorite color.
Love candles. Your corner shelf. I used to have a China cabinet very similar looking to yours.
Of course I like the little manger scene. Your little tree.
I have never heard of a Eurasian Collared Dove - they are pretty.
My granddaughter LOVES red velvet anything.
And lastly, I am so glad you moved that flame from the laundry area. To me that sounded like a fire hazard. Your new system sound wonderful!

Hoping your new water heater makes you happy once you see you bill. Happy holidays. PS I hope to have my decorations up before Thanksgiving this year.

I tried to comment when we were in Dallas at the hospital, but I had only my phone. For some reason I was unable to get my comment to go through. Sheri...I so enjoyed this post with all of the peace that were in your words and your photos. and then...the doves! They are so peaceful. Everything in your home is so pretty and warm.. Love it.

Hi Sheri,
I am glad you got a new water heater. My boss has that type and loves it. Let me know how you like it. We bought a new water heater a few years ago. It is a regular type. I decorate for Christmas after Thanksgiving. I ordered a new tree. I haven't had a tree for several years. This tree is a skinny tree so will fit in my house easier. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Sheri! Cindee
